JCI Senate Legazpi in Action
Out of Calamity In Luzon, Typhoons affected the JCISP National Elections starting from its campaign period. But it didn’t stop the Senators from reaching out most specially to those badly hit.
A week after October 21, 2020, last day for aspirants to file for the 52nd JCISO virtual election, Super Typhoon Rolly (Goni) entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility or PAR. JCI Sen. Greg Lipa in his capacity as the highest-ranking senate member in Southern Luzon began organizing the Bicol senate & regular chapters to immediately prepare their family for safety and at the same time prepped the chapters for the highly possible humanitarian works. Over a million Filipinos were evacuated and in the province of Albay over 500,000 people sought shelter-mostly at the evacuation centers. Sen. Greg spoke with NP Natividad of the
coming threat and then advised his senate members involved in his campaign bid to seize all election activities and prepare for the worst. Thus the We C.A.RE. Program was conceptualized. It was a stop gap humanitarian effort to relieve thhe suffering felt by those who lost homes or material possesions to the storm. The evacuees received basic needs to augment what meager resource they had until long term government aid could arrive. Among those helped by JCI Senate Legazpi were the residents of nearby municipalities like Guinobatan, Tabaco CIty and Malilipot, Albay. •
