The JCI Legazpi Senate conducted their first virtual and face to face election that elected the 26th Chapter President on February 2021. Comelec Chairman PP Ranulfio Imperial handled the virtual side of the election while PP Noel Rosal handled the face to face with eleven members at the 21st Ammendment Restaurant in Legazpi City.

JCI Senator Cezar Junie Bordeos thanked his members and gave insight on his plan of action. He called for the members to support his program that includes; one, a reorganization of the current senate projects under key Flagship programs; two, more active participation via zoom or face to face top support the incumbency of their fellow member, JCI Sen. Greg Lipa the first Bicolano National President of the Junior Chamber International Senate Philippines; three, the recruitment of more members from the three regular chapters of the city and four the reactivation of the stalled JCI Senate and JCI Legazpi Clubhouse.

his message that he has also identified two chairmen to handle the immediate responsibilities of the chapter. JCI Sen Jonathan Uy as the JCI National Induction Chairman and JCI Sen. Rey Acosta, who is also the City Architect to handle the document preparation and eventual construction of the JCI Clubhouse. Dates for the first quarter GMMs were identified and ended his first message to all members to stay safe and be proactive in spite of the present pandemic. •

CESAR “JUNIE” BORDEOS, JGF Together with his father JCI Senator Cezar A. Bordeos, a charter member of the JCI Senate Legazpi, they are the only living father-son member of the senate chapter.

Born December. 13, 1962 in Legazpi City, Junie as he is fondly called, went to St. Agnes Academy for his pre-school and elementary. Consistent top five honor student in St. Agnes, He is also a member of the Junior Police that started the Philippine Jaycees. Fond memories for Sen. Junie was when he is directing traffic in front of St. Agnes Academy.

He spent his first two years in high school at Divine Word College. He was a consistent

Academic Achiever Awardee and served as 2nd Year Student Representative before transferring to San Beda College to finish his 3rd and 4th year of High School. He graduated in 1978. He applied and was granted Scholar Ng Bayan at UP-Diliman in 1979, took Political Science under Professor Alex Magno. His classmates included Lean Alejandro, Malou Mangahas and Imee Marcos. In 1983, He graduated with a BS Degree in Political Science and went back to Legazpi City.

The following year he married his college sweetheart Selina Ante Hilario, the niece of Mr. Virgilio Hilario--husband of the first Miss Universe, Armi Kuusela of Finland.

Together, they where blessed with three children, James, Bettina and Mikaela. James was born in 1985, graduated from UP Diliman (AB Philosophy), Maria Bettina was born in 1990, also a UP Diliman graduate (BS Psychology). She was adjudged “Strongest Woman in the Philippines and Asia Pacific” in Powerlifting. Their youngest, Mikaela, age 21, is still taking Accountancy at Bicol University.

They also had a foster daughter Bea Camille, 6.

In 1995, Pres. Junie established a concrete leadership training program to take care of the individual membership needs of the chapter. Midway in his presidency he creatively spearheaded a road construction project that infused funds for the chapter that saw a dozen of his members and officers attend the JCIP 47th National Convention at no cost to them. He involved his members in a government project and as gratitude for the service, brought all his members to attend the 1995 JCIP National Convention in Cebu City. Gov. Ziga appointed him to be the Provincial Youth Coordinator in the year 1995 to 1996.

Today, he is the President and Owner of JAMBS Realty and Development which serves as his principal business activity.

Aside from his JCI Senate function, he also serves as the vice-chairman of the RO5 Maritime Police Advisory Council. •

We Believe...

Many of us were greatly influenced as young members by the many Senators we encountered in our JCI career. Perhaps all too often, we quickly forget the impact and impression they made on us and I have no doubt that many of my own achievements can in part be attributed to the guidance, advice and direction that I received often unknowingly from these JCI Senators.

It is with that in mind, that I wish to remind us all, that we are now in that role, counselling and mentoring many new recruits to the Chamber movement, so it is important that we stop to consider the real and dynamic impact we have on the future of JCI and its members.

Naturally I wish to thank and congratulate the Stalwarts of our organization, JCI Sen. Cesar Bordeos, JGF, JCI Sen, Al Francis Bichara, JGF, JCI Sen, Noel E. Rosal, CDD, to the 2021 JCI Senate Legazpi Officers and Board of Directors.

I wish to congratulate my good friend JCI Sen. Greg Araneta Lipa on this unique occasion. Quite honestly, I cannot think of a finer example of a JCI Senator than NP Greg when it comes to perseverance. He embodies the spirit and ethos of JCI and it is a great privilege for all of us to have him as our National President this JCI Year of 2021-2020.

Thank you JCI Sen. Rannie Imperial and past president of our senate for entering and mentoring me in the JCI Movement years ago Second, I want to thank my father JCI Senator Cezar Bordeos, the charter Secretary General and past president of our senate. My dad just celebrated his 82nd birthday two weeks ago and for this year he also celebrates his 45 year with the JCI Senate of the Philippines To the NP elect Greg Araneta Lipa and the National Board of the JCI Senate of the Philippines, and most especially Immediate Past National President Rene Natividad, I want to thank you for spending your valuable time with us. I’m indeed humbled and honored by your presence. Together we shall take the GREAT LEAP forward.

To my family, my mother, my father and my brother and sisters who have supported me. Thank you so much. To my dear children, JCI Member James, and soon to be JJC Mikaela, thank you for your support and understanding your father.

To my over-tolerant my wife, Selina, thank you for your absolute thoughtfulness and encouragement. And most of all, thank you for your unwavering support on the Importance of the JCI Movement in our lives.

And to all here tonight and especially those who are no longer with us. I bow in a prayer of thanksgiving to our Heavenly Father I thank Him for the gift of your friendship for the rest of my life. The feeling of humility and the promise that I will do my best is the grand objective of my term.

Senators undergo Bamboo Propagation Training

At the beginning of JCI Legazpi Pres Johnson’s term, he and the Board of Directors made a commitment to have an innovative Think Green project focused on a sustainable, long lasting, job creating, and disaster mitigating for the Province of Albay. Their answer to all these was a massive bamboo planting campaign.

The project chairman BJCI Zinder Isaac Perez visited several Agricultural Offices from different municipalities. He even went to the Ligao Bamboo Farm to source seedlings for this Project. However in all locations the answer was the same- we do not have enough seedlings to give your organization.

To other groups this problem may have spelled the end of this project, but for JCI Legazpi and JCI Legazpi Senate, this “problem” had the word “opportunity to create positive change” written all over it.

In order to help the regular members, JCI Legazpi Senate contacted the writers and

resource persons behind the DOST Book “Philippine Recommends Bamboo Planting” and began its journey to create Albay’s first Bamboo Nursery.

The big goal was to plant 2,000 hectares of Bamboo within 10 years. Thus Bamboohay was born.

These could be transformed into productive bamboo farms consequently protecting residents from further lahar erosion, creating for them sustainable livelihood, and capturing carbon from the atmosphere. This follows Pope Francis’ call to be Earth’s stewards in his Laudatu Si.

As always, the JCI network played a key role. Fr. Momoy Borromeo, SOLT, a past partner of other award winning chapter projects such as Coral Genesis, volunteered to host the First Bamboohay Nursery. He could see the tremendous benefit a bamboo replanting program would do for the slopes of Mayon Volcano especially in areas destroyed by sand quarrying or are lahar prone.

Please see the photo to appreciate how JCI Legazpi Senate and JCI Legazpi are starting its campaign by planting 600 Bamboo Seedlings. But more importantly, the rippling effect of how we are teaching the more than 50 youth volunteers from Barangay Padang and Don Bosco Tech-Vocational School to create their own bamboo nurseries.

We did this by demonstrating

the proper methods to harvest, cut, propagate and plant bamboos. The truly hands-on training took the youths from the slopes and farms of Mayon to the First Bamboohay Nursery.

This is hopefully the first of many bamboo propagation training workshops that JCI Legazpi and JCI Legazpi Senate will run. Ultimately encouraging more entrepreneurs to establish nurseries for Bamboo propagation. This will, in turn, make bamboo seedlings widely available in the Bicol Region and hopefully nationwide.

After the successful TOFIL Bicol Region launch on February 6, 2020,` JCI Senate Philippines President Greg Lipa at the ensuing 3th GMM (March 2020 @ Casablanca Suites) approved the nomination of Gov. Al Francis Bichara to the 2020 TOFIL Search. JCI Sen. Jonathan Uy, TOFIL Deputy Chair-Bicol was concurrently appointed local TOFIL project chairman with JCI Sen. Luis P. Bello as lead writer and researcher.

TOFIL Chairman JCI Sen. Rene Balatbat, JGF, cancelled the prestigious awards due to the Corona Virus -19 that again hit full stride close to the submission date. The TOFIL Search was rescheduled in 2021 and once again activated the search for outstanding Filipinos.
