GLENVIEW— eachers in Glenview School District 34 will receive increased pay for the next three years and students will spend two fewer days in school as the result of a new three-year contract between the district and the Glenview Education Association union. The District 34 Board of Education approved the three-year pact June 20 during its regularly scheduled meeting in Glenview. GEA membership ratified it on June 16 as a result of collective bargaining between the parties. The contract is effective July 1 and expires June 30, 2019, according to a news release from the district. A unique feature of the contract reduces the number of days teachers will teach and the time students will be in school, according to Eric Miller, the assistant superintendent

s we prepare to celebrate the 4th of July, there are so many fun things to see and do with your family and friends. One of the first things that come to mind is parades and fireworks. Please look at the following listings of parades and fireworks along the north shore. Happy Fourth of July!! NORTHBROOK: The Village of Northbrook and Northbrook Park District has planned a full day of family activities for Independence Day, Monday, July 4. This is the fourth year that the agencies are working together to coordinate the holiday festivities, and the focus remains on fun and safety. A Full Day of Fun for Everyone: In keeping with Northbrook’s traditions, the July 4th activities begin at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday with the 9th annual Liberty Loop 5K Run/Walk in Techny Prairie Park and Fields, welcoming ages 6 through adult. Families can experience the scenic, certified course together. At 8:30 a.m., the Liberty Lap Fun Run welcomes junior joggers (ages 4-10) for a one-mile event. All children in the Fun Run will have #1 on their race

All are welcome to the breakfast at Village Green Park, hosted by the Rotary Club of Northbrook The popular Northbrook Rotary Rubber Ducky Race begins at 11:30 a.m. at Village Green Park. Residents also can enjoy a Mini-Golf Tournament at Sportsman’s Country Club,

watch the Police and Fire Department as they face each other on the ball field, and cool off at Park District pools. For many people in Northbrook, the Mile-Long Parade is the highlight of the day. The parade steps off from Cherry Lane and Western Avenue at 2:30pm, following the Bike Parade, which rides off at 2:15pm. The parade includes over 85 entries, including specialty acts, local businesses,

community groups and individuals. Domino’s Pizza, of Northbrook, is the Platinum Sponsor of the parade. Fireworks at Dusk The spectacular fireworks display is best viewed from Meadowhill Park and Techny Prairie Park and Fields, beginning at dusk. Northbrook Fire Chief Jose Torres has a simple but direct message for residents: “Leave the

fireworks to the professionals!” GLENVIEW: Parade begins at 11:15 a.m. at Harlem Ave. and Glenview Rd. and is Sponsored by Astellas The parade route begins at Harlem Avenue and Glenview Road and travels south on Harlem before turning west onto Central and ending at Johns Park.
