Lurie Founders Board volunteer Sarah Baine of Winnetka received a huge birthday surprise when friends and family greeted her in pink T-shirts at the Lurie Walkathon on June 10.

the group showed up in bright pink T-shirts at Soldier Field, where the walkathon was taking place. “She was over the moon,” said Abby Dunn, one of Baine’s daughters. “It was really exciting. The kids were excited too and it was a perfect day.”

Spending her birthday with her friends and family while supporting her favorite cause really captured the essence of Baine, according to Weston. “She loved it because it really defines who she is,” Weston said. A lifelong passion and dedication to supporting those in need

has shaped Baine’s life. “Lurie has always been a cause she is deeply devoted to. She treats it as a full-time job and is extremely committed,” Dunn said. “It’s not an obligation. It is a passion and a love,” Weston said, echoing Dunn’s sentiments. While Baine, who grew up in

Winnetka, now spends six months of the year in Florida, she drops everything to fly back to Chicago for Lurie events. Move for the Kids drew more than 2,000 participants — both runners and walkers — who raised $325,000 for Lurie Children’s Hospital.
