fter drawing more than 500 people to the North Shore Artisan Food Market November 6 at the Lake Forest west train station, organizers of the event are working with Lake Forest officials to ensure they can continue to operate through May. Organizers were told a more complicated process with the city than anticipated was necessary during a Lake Forest City Council meeting November 7 at City Hall, though City Manager Robert Kiely Jr. expressed support for what the entrepreneurs are doing. After Lake Forest resident Brian Martin asked the city to expedite the process during public comment at the meeting, Kiely said the proper paperwork was received November 3 and the city was starting its review process. “This is a good idea and I like

ome members of the Lake Forest City Council are angry over a proposed nearly twomile long freight train holding track on the northwest side of the city and the short amount of time they have to do something about it. The council unanimously approved a resolution before a standing-room only crowd of more than 80 people November 7 at City Hall opposing the railroad project and seeking more time from federal and state authorities to study the impact on Lake Forest and surrounding communities. Lake Forest residents and officials learned about the proposed holding track only recently. Residents asked about it at the city’s annual meeting November 1 at the Gorton Community Center. At that time City Manager Robert Kiely Jr. said an engineer was hired to take a close look at the situation. He said the council would discuss strategy at its next meeting. The anger of the council members was evident as they discussed the resolution. Alderman Tim Newman said he did not like the limited options the city has in the face of
