Lake Forest man who has spent his entire professional life as a consultant to the railroad industry is the new chairman of the Metra Board of Directors. Norman Carlson was unanimously elected to a four-year term as chairman of Metra’s board October 14 in Chicago and has set the passenger experience as his top priority during his tenure as head of the policy setting body. “First and foremost my focus is on the passenger experience,” Carlson said in a DailyNorthShore.com interview. A big part of that is making sure the trains run on time. “Our on time goal is 95 percent and we’ve made that goal for the last 19 months.” Carlson said he will be running the board meetings in his new post
orth Shore voters began taking advantage of early voting when it started on October 24 at multiple sites in Lake County and Cook County, and they can continue to cast ballots until the day before the November 8 general election. Crowds have varied by early voting location. The Highland Park police station, serving voters primarily in Highland Park and Deerfield, leads the pack with 6,189 ballots cast through the end of voting on October 30, according to Lake County Clerk Carla Wyckoff of Lake Forest. Wyckoff said 39,815 people voted throughout Lake County since early balloting began, with nearly a quarter of them going to either the police station or Lake Forest City Hall. She said 2,899 went to Lake Forest through October 30. In Cook County, 21,307 voters have already cast their ballots through October 30 at
