What’s the scoop on Graeter’s Ice Cream? BY EMILY SPECTRE DAILYNORTHSHORE.COM

innetka residents have been waiting patiently for Graeter’s Ice Cream shop to open in Hubbard Woods across from the newly renovated park and playground. Contractors have been working at the site throughout the summer, but alas, the popular Ohiobased ice cream shop still isn’t open. So what’s the hold-up? At a Village Council meeting on September 6, former trustee Richard Kates was wondering the same thing when he brought up the issue during the public comment period. SAFE LANDING: Injured eagle finds home BY JOEL LERNER DAILYNORTHSHORE.COM

W

hen Rob Carmichael learned about a young, injured bald eagle that needed a safe place to live, he made a 2,000-mile, round-trip voyage to bring the bird to its new home. The bird was hit by a car in South Carolina and sustained a permanent wing injury, meaning it must remain in captivity for the rest of its life. The one-year-old eagle has undergone extensive rehabilitation at the Center for Birds of Prey near Charleston, South Carolina, and now is home at the Wildlife Discover Center in Lake Forest. The eagle, a female, is fitting in nicely at the Discovery Center on Middlefork Road, inhabiting an outdoor cage in the area of the other birds of prey, and it is slowly getting used to seeing people. Eventually, it will be integrated into the Center’s onsite and outreach education programs. “She will be a big attraction at the Wildlife Discovery Center," said Carmichael. "She does not have a name yet, but we will be establishing a contest and publicizing it on our Facebook page. Her favorite foods are whole fish The Wildlife Discovery Center's newest arrival, a young bald eagle, gets her daily bath, which she loves . PHOTOGRAPHY BY JOEL LERNER and rodents.”
