Hello! My name is John Phillip Santos, The guy behind J-Phil | Photography. For now I count myself as a hobbyist for I don’t really earn that much from shooting. I am fascinated in taking portraits and I like how it can be combined with other genres of photography Another inspiration why I love taking photos of people is the capability of it to uplift and boost other people’s self-esteem by showing them how beautiful and good looking there are For the first anniversary issue I would liked to share you guys the story how this all started. September 08,2012... This is the date where I started shooting people as a model because before all I shoot were toys and products or family/friend gatherings. My friend Princess Ontengco posted a photo of a coffee, cigarette and a book (Fifty shades of gray) and the light bulb finally pop out and a burst of confidence followed it up, The confidence to ask Princess to pose for me and the idea of a to tell what a person likes to do through a photo. For Princess that would be is to drink coffee while reading and smoking.

Even though I know Princess is a nice girl despite of her fierce appearance I was not really sure if she will be interested in modelling for me but still I tried it was all to gain and nothing to lose situation. So I asked her and unhesitantly she said yes. I told her I just want to take some photos of her as she do her routine of reading a book in Starbucks and because I am only using a camera (Canon 500D) I didn’t care about permits and if the guard would try to stop me I will tell him that we are just taking photos for fun and memories. We went to in Starbucks Corinthian in Mandaluyong where there are few people so Princess wouldn’t be bothered of getting attention from other customers. Thanks to the outcome of that shoot my confidence was really boost and I was able to ask more people to pose for me, thus gave birth to the idea of J-Phil Photography

THE EXPERIENCE “Technically, yes. It is my first time to do photoshoot with a real photographer. My sister and I have been through a lot of photoshoots already since she wanted to enhance her skills in doing portraits and I wanted to pose infront of a camera. I was shy at first but then, it did felt great when the photos turned out so perfectly.” “I felt so happy about the outcome of the photos and my family felt so proud about it too. I thought my mom would get mad if she saw my “blurred lines” photos but I was wrong. She totally loved it and she even told me to have those pictures print, put in in a huge frame and hang it on the wall.” “If ever I would be on a photo shoot again, I would love to do Doll concept. Of course, with the use of bright pastel colors, stuffed toys everywhere, expressive posing, colorful candies, especially a huge lollipop. We could also use strings to create “marionette” effect. It’s because I like to experience new things. And besides, it’s one of a kind and requires a lot of effort. I love challenges!”

We all hate these Blurred Lines... “The inspiration of this shoot came from the music video Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. The video might be explicit but the thing that strikes me the most is the video is not erotic. Maybe it is because you can see that the girls are fun as they dance and unlike other videos whenever girls are dancing, they act as if they are trying to seduce the audience. If you don’t believe me go and watch it in youtube.” “So what I did in the photoshoot was to make the it fun and make it sure that kind of feeling is reflected in the photos. I also created dice props to give a model something to play with as we shoot.” “I just also want to say that I am very thankful that my friend Christine agreed to this shoot even though this is our first to shoot.” John Phillip Santos “I agreed to do it because I like to try everything at least once. I like showing some skin and I’m proud of my body.” Christine Baltazar
