MODELS X PHOTOGS In a photo shoot, the professional relationship of the photographer and the model affects the ability of both to work comfortably and productively. In these kinds of situation, it is important to know how both points-of-view— the photographer’s and the model’s likes and dislikes. Disclaimer: Assessment on the topic is only based on the answers that the team gathered for the article. We do not claim that this is the general idea for all photographers and models.

We asked some photographers and models, what are the major turn-off attitudes that they hate? With this idea, Primera doesn’t want to put up a fight between the photographer and the model. In fact, both should work hand-in-hand in order to produce not just good photos but good relationship as well. These points-of-view that were presented only shows that both parties only need to agree halfway in order to
meet the expectations of each. For the photographers, this is an eyeopener on how their models think about them. At least, they’d know how their sexy pose instructions might offend their model. For the models, it makes them understand how the photographers value their craft that they needed to cooperate in terms of giving importance to the originality and uniqueness that a

photographer has put into their photos. For both, it reminds them that communication is needed. Be truthful and be open about what each wants for the shoot. Lay down the pros and cons and expectations so that each will have an idea on what both will expect in the shoot. The general lesson here is to be mindful with the feelings of others. Respect
everyone; no one wants to work with a boastful monkey. There’s this joke in a photo shoot that once said, “Trabaho!”, which means, you are here to do a photo shoot, not to flirt. P.S. Thanks to all the photographer & models who answered our interivews OCTOBER 2014 PRIMERA 7
Why Her? To push someone whom I know has the capability to reach the top—that is why I chose to feature Gillian for the October issue of Primera. Her story, which we will be told in the next pages, is also a plus on that. She got the looks, and with a little bit more of training and exposure, she would definitely be someone to lookout on in the modeling industry.

Dilemmas over exdeal photo shoots
Photo shoots offer a variety of growth in terms of socialising and practicing craft. Commonly for starters in the industry, for both photographers and models, exchange deal is made in order for both to garner experience and capability to build each other’s confidence in both related fields. More than about building the portfolio for oneself, sometimes; it’s also about helping out the someone build their own portfolio and make new friends in the process.
What is an exdeal? Exdeal is a form of business transaction where services are rendered in exchange of cash. Still, such transaction varies and depends on the agreement between two parties involved. There are times that either the photographer or the model provides for transportation and food allowance. It really depends on your arrangement.

CREDITS & RESPECT We’ve gathered few points-ofview from some photographers in relation with their personal experiences during photo shoots. In general, they all ask for only two things from the people they work with: Credits for those who worked behind the scene, and Respect for time and effort that each participant has poured into the task in order to produce such creative photos. In ex-deal scenarios, There are times that they feel that they were just used in order to have their own portfolio. Sometimes, after photo shoots, they lose

contact with the models, as if they never met. Since the transaction is ex-deal, They are also disappointed with those who committed themselves on a schedule but will suddenly change because of raket or go see. Ex-deals are exchange of efforts. It’s not only about the model or photographer, but more importantly, those who are involved in the team to come up with a masterpiece. It’s a group effort that everyone has to acknowledge in order to show importance in the craft that the team is making.

There was this time that I went to my favorite modeling agency’s go-see and there were stages you had to go through before you can officially become their model. After the second stage of attempting to do the “walk” required for ramp shows, I couldn’t do it properly since I am not used to wearing heels. I didn’t hear from them after that day. I just had to face the truth at that time, maybe I still need to improve overall. I used it as a way to challenge myself more into trying to stay fit and healthy. - Kristine Gillian Figueroa -

The people around me are mainly the reason why I keep on believing in myself.
