Kaya.

A sweet, beautiful, 3 year old Malinois, Kaya was an owner surrender to the Moore County Shelter. She is housetrained, crate-trained, knows sit, down, shake, come, and wait, is good on leash, in the car, likes other dogs and older kids. Like all Maligators, Kaya has lots of energy, loves to play and go for walks, and needs something to do so she doesn’t get bored. Her perfect home would have a fenced yard, a canine companion, and a family dedicated to keeping her busy and engaged.

I’m a playful, adventuresome, white and gray short hair gal, about three years old. I’ve always been healthy, so FCAP volunteers decided that my sibling and I were worth socializing for a forever home. Observant and cautious around people new to me, I become trusting over time. I’m spayed, vaccinated, and FeLV/FIV negative. My adoption fee is Feral Cat Assistance Program only $50. If you’re looking for a purrfect friend to keep you company on a quiet night binge watching your favorite show, I’m your lady.

Taking the Fear Out of the Veterinary Visit Many pet owners dread the trip to the veterinarian due to the amount of stress and anxiety their pet experiences. High stress levels can interfere with your veterinarian’s ability to examine your pet thoroughly, obtain accurate samples, and provide appropriate care. As stress and anxiety levels rise, even the most laid-back pets can become dangerous to themselves, caregivers, and even their owners. A trip to the veterinarian shouldn’t be a fearful experience. Now, many clinics are striving to decrease the stress level of every dog and cat during each visit to make a more pleasant experience for pets and their owners alike. This ranges from pheromone products, treats for distraction, and minimal restraint handling. Let’s explore the steps from home to the car ride to the veterinary visit that can help decrease your pet’s stress levels.

How do I know if my pet is stressed?

Every pet displays stress and anxiety in different ways. Some may have very subtle facial expressions that indicate to the veterinary staff that your pet is stressed. Just because your pet is not “acting out,” does not mean they are not stressed or nervous. Please talk with your veterinarian and staff about any signs of stress during each appointment. Below are some of the common signs of stress: Hyperactivity or constantly panting; hiding or freezing in place; intensely staring at staff; avoiding eye contact; showing teeth; vocalizing; hypersalivation.

Feliway® mimics the natural feline facial pheromone used by cats to mark their territory as safe and secure. This pheromone helps cats cope with challenging situations such as a veterinary visit. Adaptil® mimics the Dog Appeasing Pheromone that mother dogs naturally produce after giving birth. This pheromone helps their puppies feel calm and secure. Dogs of all ages recognize this pheromone throughout their life and it helps them feel reassured and relaxed in challenging situations. Apply eight sprays of the pheromone to the carrier, bedding or towel, bandana, and/or car at least 30 minutes prior to taking your pet to their visit. This application lasts for 4-5 hours for the return trip home.

What can you do during the veterinary visit?

• Always transport your cat in a closed carrier for safety. • Ensure that cats in carriers are never placed on the floor as this is a vulnerable position. • Cover carriers with a towel to limit visual stimuli. • Let your pet explore the exam room to allow them to feel more comfortable with their environment before the exam. • Bring a familiar towel or bed from home for them to sit on or hide under.

What can you do at home?

• Training pets to see their carrier as their personal bedroom is simple and allows your pet to have a safe, familiar environment during the trip to the veterinary office and decreases the stress of getting into the carrier. The first step is to leave the carrier out where your pet has daily access to it. Next, start feeding your pet near the carrier and slowly move the food bowl inside the carrier as they become comfortable. You can also hide tasty treats or toys in the carrier every day. • Bring your pet to the veterinarian hungry so they are more likely to respond to food distractions. If your pet has a sensitive stomach or is on a special diet, feel free to bring your own treats. • Bring fecal samples to decrease the stress of sample donation during the appointment. • If your pet has car sickness, please let your veterinarian know prior to your visit as medications can be given to diminish or eliminate this discomfort. • “Happy visits” are encouraged between your scheduled appointments for staff to give your pet lots of love and treats so that they can feel comfortable with the clinic and staff. • Various types of pressure wraps can be used to apply gentle, constant pressure which is similar to swaddling an infant to reduce anxiety while traveling and during the veterinary visit. • Speak to your veterinarian about other desensitization training, natural supplements, or medications that they recommend for your pet. • Some pets can benefit from an anti-anxiety medication prior to their visit, based on your veterinarian’s recommendations.

202 Pisgah Church Rd. Greensboro, NC

What are pheromones?

Pheromones are natural chemical signals which are widely used during normal animal communication to themselves and other dogs or cats. Pheromones are not hormones. They are invisible and only detected by the species that produced them.

Iris came to us from a local county shelter where she was found as a stray. Iris is a loving cat, but can be a bit shy when she first meets you. She prefers to come to you on her own terms to curl up next to you. Iris would love to be your very own Siamese...make her yours and you’ll have years of loving. She has tested negative for Felv/ FIV/Heartworm and is spayed.

ill

ask ica McC Dr. Jess

I grew up in Connecticut and knew from a very young age that I really wanted to be a veterinarian. Because there are very few veterinary colleges in the U.S., at 18 I moved to Virginia to attend college at Hollins University and then Veterinary school at Virginia Tech. During my time in school, I fell in love with the south and the rest is history! After moving to the Mocksville, N.C. area, I decided veterinary medicine should be offered to my

community in a better way and The Country Veterinary Hospital was born. My primary responsibility is to be a caretaker to the animals who depend on me, so I strive to be a healer of my patients as well as a comfort to the families who love them. I work diligently at providing veterinary care plans which are appropriate for each individual family. Providing economic care at the pinnacle of current medicine is difficult, however we work very hard every day to find that exact balance.

Monthly Preventions

S

Simplified!

ome combination of monthly heartworm, intestinal worm, flea and tick preventions are commonly recommended for all dogs and cats in North Carolina. Have you ever been confused about what product would be most appropriate for your pet? Your veterinarian will make recommendations based on a variety of factors, however having an understanding of the products available will help you determine what products are right for you and your pets!

by Jessica McCaskill, DVM

There are many monthly prevention products on the market today and choosing the appropriate medication for your pet can be very overwhelming. To make things simpler we have broken down some of the most common choices based on your pet’s protection needs.

What parasites are we protecting our pets from? - Heartworms are long spaghetti-like worms that live inside the heart. They are transmitted by mosquito bites. - Roundworms are long spaghetti like worms that live in the intestines and are transmitted by the fecal oral route in adults and from mother to puppy during gestation. - Whipworms are small parasites approximately 1/4 inch long that live in the intestines and are transmitted by the fecal oral route. - Hookworms are small parasites that are approximately 1/8 inch long that live in the intestines and are transmitted by the fecal oral route, through the skin or from the mother to puppy. - Tapeworms are flat intestinal worms that are made up of many small segments, each about 1/4 - 1/2 inch long. They are transmitted by ingestion of an infected flea. - Fleas and Ticks are external parasites that dogs pick up from other pets or from the environment. They transmit many diseases and also create many skin conditions for our pets.

Please use the chart below as a starting place only. Discussing your pet’s specific needs with your veterinarian will help you pick the perfect product for your family. Remember that prevention is much safer and far less expensive than treatment. Our primary goal is to keep our pets healthy. By keeping our pets healthy we also keep our families healthy by preventing the spread of zoonotic disease.

Cover Story

Juliet’s House Animal Rescue By Susan D. Deaton, Director Juliet’s House Animal Rescue

J

uliet’s House Animal Rescue is a 501c3 organization whose mission is to help reduce the pet overpopulation problem. We are a 100% volunteer organization, with no facility to maintain; so every dollar donated is a dollar spent caring for animals. The strategies we use to forward us in this endeavor are five-fold: 1) Education; 2) Trap/Neuter/Release; 3) Community Assistance; 4) Partnering with Shelters and other Rescues; and 5) through our Volunteer program.

EDUCATION. Nothing we can do

will change the overpopulation problem if we can’t get in front of it by educating the public. The Guilford County Pet Responsibility Program is the educational arm of Juliet’s House. Its mission is to work with schools and local animal welfare organizations to improve the community’s understanding of responsible, compassionate animal care. Pet Responsibility volunteers present a series of six lessons on humane animal care to 4th grade students. Topics covered include the basic needs of animals; overpopulation and the importance of spay/neuter; how to keep pets safe and healthy; how to stay safe around dogs; and how to be an advocate for animals. Donations are used to buy materials for students, including our 28 page “Best Friends” color Activity Book. The book is meant to be both engaging to 4th grade students, and a practical resource with information about low-cost spay/neuter clinics, Guilford County Animal Services, local animal rescues and other information students can share with their family and friends. One thousand students attended in 2017. Our goal for 2018 is 1200 students.

TRAP/NEUTER/RELEASE. The number of feral cat colonies in and around Guilford County is unknown; but it is known that this is a significant issue for controlling the overpopulation of cats. Juliet’s House has a team of volunteers who work with residents and businesses to have the cats trapped, neutered/spayed and released back into the environment where they were trapped. If we feel the kittens and cats we trap can be socialized and adopted, we take them into our foster homes. Out of an estimated 500 cats that we trapped in 2017, approximately 100 were social enough to come into our adoption program. On occasion we get requests for barn cats, and we can transfer the feral cats to a responsibly cared for barn environment. We work with our sister organizations to get the residents vouchers that can be used to spay/ neuter and vaccinate with little to no cost to the resident. 12

April 2018 www.facebook.com/triadhappytails

COMMUNITY ASSISTANCE.

Numerous requests for assistance are from residents that live in the Triad area. We field requests from our website, Facebook, word of mouth, Animal Control, veterinarians, Juliet’s House volunteers and via our Hotline. For a myriad of reasons, people ask us to take and rehome kittens, cats, puppies and dogs of all ages. Factors we consider when deciding whether to take the pet into the program include overall adoptability; foster availability; anticipated medical expenses; the degree of danger to the pet; and the reason why the animal is being rehomed. We feel good about the fact that we are willing to take pets deemed less desirable by other rescue organizations. A large percentage of the dogs we take in are seniors, or dogs that are heartworm positive. The average cost to treat a heartworm positive dog exceeds $500. It is rare to recover our expenses through the adoption fee on dogs. We established “Boo’s Fund” to specifically attract donations to be used to vet our senior dogs. We took in over 1200 cats and dogs in 2017.

PARTNERSHIPS. At Juliet’s House Animal Rescue we welcome the opportunity to work together with any organization whose mission is the same as ours. We feel it is important to support our local shelters whenever we are able. Without support from rescue organizations, municipal shelters will never be able to get ahead of the major overpopulation issue. We have just recently entered into an agreement with the Guilford County Animal Shelter and the United States Humane Society to transfer animals from over-populated areas such as ours, to areas in the country that don’t have enough dogs and cats to support the demand. VOLUNTEER PROGRAM. In 2017 we adopted out 1047 cats,

kittens, puppies and dogs. We are only as good as our volunteers. We have fosters who bottle feed; take in pregnant cats or mother cats with kittens; take in young weaned kittens; care for cats and dogs with significant medical issues and nurture seniors who deserve all the love and attention we can give them through adoptions or hospice care. The use of social media is a key ingredient to our adoption success, but clearly our relationship with the Petsmart organizations in Greensboro and Petco in Kernersville, afford us the best venue we can hope for to get our fosters adopted. To that end, we rely heavily on our volunteers who clean close to 20 cages, twice a day. The public’s first and foremost impression of us occurs when they

We have volunteers who do the laundry; assist in the adoption fairs; and Purr Partners who go during the week to give our caged cats needed exercise and attention. We currently have over 125 volunteers and the contribution of every single one is critical to our success. If you would like to become a volunteer, please don’t hesitate to notify us via Facebook, our website (julietshouse.org), or visit us in person at either of our Greensboro Petsmart Adoption Centers (Saturday 12-4).

DONATIONS. Donations are our life line. A $10 donation will buy 5 books for school children or vaccines for one kitten. A $25 donation will buy us one FELV/FIV combo test or a 12 oz. can of kitten or puppy formula. A $50 donation will pay to trap/neuter/release one cat or buy heartworm preventative for a dog for 3 months. A $100 donation will neuter two cats or spay one cat or one dog. A $500 donation will help us treat a heartworm positive dog. Our adoption fees only cover a portion of the expense it takes to care for over a thousand animals. If you would like to donate to our organization, you may do so through our website (julietshouse.org), Facebook (Juliet’s House), PayPal or send a check directly to Juliet’s House Animal Rescue – 1111 Monticello St.; Greensboro, NC 27410.

Charlie.

Dolly is a 2 year

Handsome young Charlie is a 1 year old Lab mix who is searching for a forever playmate. Charlie is a happy-go-lucky pup who cannot think of anything better than a fun-filled day out in the yard with his new best friend and an evening snuggled up on the couch! This plucky pooch is also quite polite for a young boy, he already knows how to sit and will head off to his bed when he is asked (so smart!). Like any growing boy, Charlie loves snacks, he thinks peanut butter is the bees knees and will do anything for a stuffed peanut butter Kong. Charlie has been waiting ever so patiently for a forever home since September of 2017. Do you think you can make all of his dreams come true and take him home?

old spayed female who is looking for a family to say Welcome Home Dolly! This sweet and spunky baby girl is all about playtime and snuggles. Her favorite things in the whole wide world are tennis balls and treats (and you of course!) Dolly was diagnosed with demodex mange and has been treated at the shelter, but our veterinarian suspects that Dolly may also have food allergies and we do hope that won’t stop her forever family from scooping this sweetheart right up!

Come on out and meet Charlie at the Guilford County Animal Shelter today! n

If you are interested in meeting this one of a kind baby girl, please visit her at The Guilford County Animal Shelter. n

Leno

sure does live up to his name. This handsome hunk of pooch will keep you laughing until your belly hurts with his goofy personality! Leno is a 5 year old pup who has been waiting for a family to call his very own since October of 2017 and we just cannot imagine why. He has a great temperament! Leno is playful and plucky when it’s time to go outside, chasing tennis balls with the best of the younger pups. Then when it’s time to come inside and settle down he wants for nothing more than to sit next to you for a scratch behind the ears and maybe even a good nap. If you’d like to make this celebrity-wanna-be a member of your family, come see him today at The Guilford County Animal Shelter. n

Harry,

or “Hoppin Harry”, as he is known to his close, personal friends, wanted to stop in and say hello! He thinks that maybe you might have forgotten about him, especially since he has been waiting for a family at the shelter since November of 2017. Harry heard that black dogs have a harder time getting adopted in shelters, so he is going to do anything he can to make sure that You notice Him! This handsome hunk gets really excited and hops up and down in his kennel (hence his nickname) until you take him outside. Once you get the leash on, Harry’s manners kick in and he walks nicely on his leash. He loves the fresh air and spending time outside with you. If your family is looking for a polite gentleman, then Harry is your man! Come meet Harry today at The Guilford County Animal Shelter.

n

Earl.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is with greatest pride and grandest pleasure that we introduce to you a true gentleman and scholar. This young fellow has dined with the most illustrious of society, and was knighted by the queen herself, or so he would like to think! Meet The Earl of Montlieu, or Earl for short; this happy-go-lucky pup is all about playing games, eating peanut butter, and letting loose and having fun! Earl is still a puppy at only a year old and has a lot to learn about being a fine, upstanding citizen,. He cannot wait to start his journey into adulthood with his new forever family. If you’re looking for a high energy pup who would like to run around your backyard, then settle in for a peanut butter Kong snack and a snuggle, come meet Earl at The Guilford County Animal Shelter. n

LOVING PET INN ADOPTIONS 336.393.0000 / www.lovingpetinnadoptions.org

Etta

Velvet.

is a 5 year old, massively obese 27 pound girl who may be a Pug mix. She should be closer to 15 pounds. She came from a chaotic home with nearly 20 dogs. Sweet, gentle Etta does not seem to have been socialized and she is so shy and traumatized. She is looking for a patient new home who will help her blossom and become a real dog! She is good with other dogs and needs a friend in her new home. Adoption donation $125.

Beautiful Velvet was found lost on a highway, horribly matted and confused. She is a petite 11 pounds, 3 to 6 years old, and seems to be non-shedding. She is good with dogs and shy around people. She is very sweet and seems to be totally nonaggessive, Velvet is unsocialized, maybe a breeder girl or similar? She likes to be close and snuggle but flees when uncertain. She needs a quiet, patient new home. Adoption donation $200.

Visit www.lovingpetinnadoptions.org for more info. n

Visit www.lovingpetinnadoptions.org for more info. n

Marlene

is happy that she has ended her life as a stray. Though sometimes a little shy, she is very friendly just as soon as she realizes you are a new friend, and she adores all the attention she can get. She is a wonderfully affectionate girl who enjoys playing with toys. Sweet Marlene is all the more charming because she seems to be a little bit cross-eyed, which does not bother her a bit. Adoption donation $40. Visit www.lovingpetinnadoptions.org for more info. n

Meadow

is a special girl who was rescued from a horrific hoarding situation. Her owner died, a hoarder who left 32 dogs living in squalor, many of them chained to various things in the yard or shed. Meadow has lovely, soulful eyes and appears to be young. She is 34.8 pounds. Do you have patience, a calm demeanor, and a male companion pup for her? Meadow likes some male dogs, but not female dogs. Come meet our Meadow and give her the chance that she longs for. Adoption donation $125. Visit www.lovingpetinnadoptions.org for more info. n

JR

Toodle.

is an adorable little guy, 20 pounds of joy, who lost his home when his owner fell on hard times. He is somewhere between 5-8 years old and a perky boy. JR has that smart, fun Jack Russell personality but not the hyperness. He is a super, loving little guy who makes new people friends easily. JR is playful and loves his toys but can be protective of them so he needs a new owner who understands the delightfully feisty terrier personality. He is already house-trained. Adoption donation $175.

Ok, folks, get ready to fall in love! Toodle is a 10 pound, 1 year old who looks like a Chinese Crested mix. He has the SWEETEST little funny face and soft but scruffy grey and white fur that is probably lower shedding and definitely easy maintenance. He came to us from a chaotic home with nearly 20 dogs. He is gentle, loving, and eager to make new people friends despite being a little bashful. Toodle is a cuddle bug. He needs a peaceful home and an owner who will keep him company most of the day. Adoption donation $175.

Snoop Dog.

This guy came to RDF as a stray after a very nice family found him and took him in but could not keep him. They looked for his owner but found no one, so he came to us to find his forever home! So far, we know he does well well with children and other dogs! He is curious about cats but does fine around them. He appears to be house-trained as well. Snoop is still young, so he will need a family that will understand he needs some training and playtime, but also he will want lots of love! If interested in adopting him, please apply at www.reddogfarm.com. n

Hylia, named after the Zelda Goddess! At almost ten years old, she is considered a senior kitty but cats often live into their twenties and she is still full of tortitudedon’t let her fool you! If you appreciate cats with unique looks and personality, come meet her and fall in love! You can come meet Hylia Tuesday - Sunday at Crooked Tail Cat Cafe! Apply online at www.reddogfarm.com. n

Willow

Lemon

and his cage mate Azul are both patiently waiting to find their forever home. They came in together and are totally inseparable. They are typical buggies that enjoy singing daily together and grooming one another. Their joint adoption fee is $25. If you are interested in these 2 sweethearts fill out an application online for both at www.reddogfarm.com. n

Babe is an adorable 1 year

is an active young bunny who is looking to find the perfect forever family! She is enjoying her current foster family by being spoiled rotten with fresh veggies and playtime daily. If interested in Willow, please fill out an online application at www.reddogfarm.com. Her adoption fee is $30. n

Nacho

old male pot belly pig. This cute fella was surrendered due to HOA rules where his family lived and they were forced to find him a new situation. Babe continues to be a very sweet and easygoing piggy in his foster home. His foster mom absolutely adores him!! Babe has been introduced to a few different pigs between his 2 different foster homes and has gotten along well with all of them. He enjoys strolling around and snacking during the day then turning in for an evening snuggle in his barn with his current pig friend, Cheers the piggy.

is a super sweet (gelding) Quarter Horse that was neglected after being retired from riding by his owners. He was severely underweight when he arrived but proved to be of a kind heart. Nacho is 21 years old (approx. 15.3 hh) and was a race horse in his previous life (he has a tattoo we have not been able to read on his upper lip) before he was put in a pasture and forgotten about. Now that we have had some dental care done on his teeth and have him on a solid and appropriate diet, Nacho is gaining weight. We have not ridden him but once we do his biography will be updated. Nacho loads, ties and stands for the vet and farrier with no problems. He is low man in the herd and does better with a geldings-only pasture arrangement. Nacho will make a great addition to someone’s farm.

Millie

Ambrose

is a torbie with a white collar born in August 2016. She has been waiting for her forever home for a long time! Millie has a very laid-back personality and wants to be a lap cat but never gets her turn. She has been in foster care since she was a little kitten and her fur coat keeps getting prettier. She is a stunning girl and her foster mates are jealous! Will you be the lap she can sit in?? Millie is current on vaccinations and has been spayed.

was born in May of 2017 to a wild mother and they were taken to an animal shelter. While he was cared for, he had little human contact. Since his rescue, he remains very shy. He doesn’t like to be held or petted except at meal time! He is a sweet boy who just hasn’t learned to completely trust humans. If you like a challenge and will take the time to help this cat, then he is the one for you. You could make a difference for sweet Ambrose.

Ciara

is a sweet 1 year old girl with the most beautiful coloring and soft fur. The first night she came to us my husband and I had to bathe her and she hated it! After that we figured she would want nothing to do with us for a while. But as soon as she was dry, she hopped right into my husband’s lap, laid down and purred while he petted her. She loves her cat tower, wet food and chin rubs! Come meet this sweet baby girl! DOB: 2/2017

is a loving girl born in the fall of 2013. This little cutie will readily win your heart with just a look. She is a total doll. Ciara is happy, playful, very social and hoping to find her very own forever home. She came to AARF with an old injury in her front right leg that had not been set properly before it healed. The leg deformity does not cause her any pain and does not impact her ability to walk, play or get on the bed. She would love to have her very own someone to snuggle up with.

Spots

I’m 12 years young and I’m looking for my forever family! Don’t let my age fool you--I still have lots of energy and lots of love to give! I enjoy jogging around the neighborhood with my foster mom so I would do great with an active family and a fenced yard would be FABULOUS as I love to run and play! I do great with my foster brother and sister, Chihuahua mixes, so I’m great with other dogs. I LOVE cuddle time and belly rubs with my foster parents and shower them with love and kisses. I’m crate-trained, leash-trained and house-trained. They tell me that I’m a Boston Terrier mix...and I am true to that breed so a forever person experienced with my personality would be great.

is a very loving, energetic and playful one year old! In fact, “play” is his modus operandi! He thoroughly enjoys running in a fenced in yard and enticing friends into sharing their toys with him. He is housetrained, kennel-trained, neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. He does well with older children and once slow and proper introductions are made, will do well with other dogs. Spots would really love to find a loving, forever home as his siblings have. He’s an amazing boy who deserves the very best!

Tucker

Sophie.

is a very energetic and playful kitten who loves being around his person and other animal friends! He’s not one for being held, but will give you kisses as he holds your face. He enjoys playing with his canine and feline foster siblings while running around the house and would love to have a four-legged companion in his forever home. Tucker is very smart and very active and would love to find a forever family willing to play with him and keep him challenged!

Hi, I’m Sophie, a spayed, 2 year old American Pit Bull Terrier mix. I am loving, loyal, and my foster mom says I am extremely cute and smart. I have learned to sit, lay down, roll over and give paw. I love to walk and play outside as long as I don’t have to walk through any puddles. I’m getting better at playing fetch but I’d rather just play tag. I also love to cuddle and give hugs! I am pretty calm when I am at home and am perfectly happy watching TV on the couch, but I get super excited when I get to meet a new human friend and won’t be able to sit still. Making new canine friends is a little hard, but once I figure out that they just want to be friends, I love to play with them! Please consider giving me my fur-ever home!

Julie

Meet Bre.

Bre has come a long way baby! From a semi-feral when she was found in the woods near a volunteer’s home, to a sweet little cat that asks for pets and plays with her housemates. Bre may not be too keen on dogs, since she hasn’t lived with any dogs in our program. Bre is about 5 years old but very playful. She especially likes playing with her foster housemate, Lexi, who taught her to play. Bre’s Adoption Fee is sponsored. If you are interested in adopting Bre, please send an email to felinefriendsnc@gmail.com for an adoption application or check out our website at felinefriendsnc.com. n

Lexi

is approximately 2 years old. She was found in an empty apartment abandoned with her 4 kittens. Her babies have all been adopted into loving homes but Lexi needed some extra love and time to learn that humans are kind and that being a companion pet is the way to go! She is a really sweet cat who loves to play with her foster housemate, Bre, and with her toys. Lexi is still a bit shy with people. In cat fashion Lexi will accept affection but on her own terms. Lexi’s adoption fee is sponsored. If you are interested in adopting Lexi. Please email felinefriendsnc@ gmail.com for an adoption application or check out our website at felinefriendsnc.com. n

Happy is just as his name de-

Middleton

scribes him - happy! Are you up for a game of fetch? Maybe a long walk? Or just running around the yard together? Happy’s loving, loyal personality will win you over! He’s an upbeat 1-2 year old Lab mix who is looking for a fun, active family. Because of his size and energy, a home with older children would be best. Happy is available for adoption at the Davidson County Animal Shelter. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and his adoption fee is only $55. How can anyone resist this face?

is just as sweet as he can be. He absolutely loves to go for walks or hikes and does fairly well on a leash. Middleton does well with other dogs after a slow introduction. At only just a year old, he is a playful dog that is eager to show you what a great dog he can be. Come out to the Davidson County Animal Shelter to meet him. Middleton is already neutered, up-to-date on his vaccines, and he is microchipped. His adoption fee is $70.

Please call 336-357-0805 to learn more about him. n

Wexler.

Are you looking for a handsome wingman or someone to be the life of the party? If so, Wexler is your guy! He turns heads and grabs attention everywhere he goes. Wexler would be best in a home with an experienced owner willing to work with him. He is an active boy that loves to get plenty of exercise and play with older children. He is 2-3 years old and is already neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. His adoption fee is $55 at the Davidson County Animal Shelter. Please call 336-357-0805 to learn more about him. n

Boomer is a mellow, husky boy who wears his tuxedo proudly. When he was surrendered to the shelter, his owner said that he didn’t like the other cats in the home. However, he is in an open room with multiple cats now and although he mostly keeps to himself, he hasn’t caused any problems. Boomer isn’t a super affectionate cat but he would be a great companion. His adoption fee is $50 and includes his neuter, vaccinations, and microchip. Come out to the Davidson County Animal Shelter to meet this handsome boy. n

Chief

is a handsome 4 year old gray tabby who came into the shelter as a stray and although he came in neutered, no one ever came looking for him. Chief is at the Davidson County Animal Shelter and his adoption fee is $55. Please call 336-357-0805 to learn more about him. n

Newton

is a sweet buy shy boy who enjoys plenty of head rubs once he feels comfortable with you. Although he keeps to himself, Newton is a great cat and easy to care for. He likes hanging out high on the cat tower so that he can get a better view of things around him. We suspect that he loves to have a nice window where he can watch the world go by. Neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped, Newton is ready to find his purr-fect home. His adoption fee is $40 at the Davidson County Animal Shelter. n www.triadhappytails.com April 2018

Casco came to us from a home where his owner, who had previously rescued him from having been abandoned, was being deployed. He has a lovely temperament, both easygoing and full of energy and excitement. He’s good in the house, with vehicle rides, and at the vet’s. He was somewhat underweight on arrival, but that’s a temporary condition here! He’s athletic, eagerly “leaving the ground” as he plays with any kind of toy available.
