PREVIOUS DESIGN FROM NODE TO PRECINCT

PROJECT ONE RESULTED IN AN URBAN ART NODE - SUPPLYING THE PUBLIC WITH A SPACE IN WHICH THEY MAY CONSTRUCT EXISTING COMMUNITY CENTRES, PCYC’S, AND HOMELESS SHELTERS WITHIN A 2KM RADIUS OF THE SITE

THEIR OWN SPACE TO PRODUCE WORKS OF ART INCLUDING PHOTOGRAPHY, PAINTING AND DRAWING.

BY STUDYING THE LOCALE AND REVEALING THE SOCIAL PROBLEMS AND MULTIPLE DEMOGRAPHIC DIFFERENCES IN THE REGION IT WAS DECIDED THAT EXISTING

ART

SCHOOLS

AND

THE DESIGN RESPONSE OF

THE SITE

PREDOMINANTLY THROUGH THE USE OF ART AND DESIGN, IN A COLLABORATIVE WAY.

PROJECT TWO SAW THE FOCUS OF DEVELOPMENT ON NURTURING THE EXPERIENCE AND RELATIONSHIPS FORMED DURING THE DESIGN PROCESS OF THE REDEVELOPMENTS IN ORDER TO ERASE SOCIAL PROBLEMS. THIS WAS AMENDED WITHIN PROJECT THREE - ALTERNATING THE FOCUS OF THE PROPOSAL TO THE CREATION OF A PRECINCT IN WHICH DESIGN AND COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT COULD BE EXISTING ART EXHIBITION CENTRES AND GALLERIES WITHIN A 2KM RADIUS OF THE SITE

MAXIMIZED, WHILST PROVIDING THE LOCAL COMMUNITY WITH A PLACE OF RELAXATION, INSPIRATION AND DESIGN.

PROJECT TWO, WAS TO ATTEMPT TO COMBAT SUCH PROBLEMS,

COLLEGES WITHIN A 2KM RADIUS OF

DESIGN PROCESS FROM NODE TO PRECINCT

THE SITE WAS DETERMINED TO BE PREDOMINANTLY ACCESSED BY FOOT, ADDITIONALLY, THE SITE ITSELF ONCE ACCESSED, WAS ONLY NEGOTIABLE ON FOOT, THUS, IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT WOULD BE OF A COMFORTABLE HUMAN SCALE AND ACCESS, WHILST INTEGRATING INTO THE SITE SEAMLESSLY.

THE PROPOSED URBAN DESIGN PRECINCT WITHIN HOWARD SMITH WHARVES AIMS AT INTEGRATING THE SURROUNDING COMMUNITY WITH LOCALLY SOURCED ARCHITECTS AND DESIGNERS, IN ORDER TO CONSTRUCT AND DESIGN FURTHER RENOVATIONS AND INNOVATIONS FOR THE SURROUNDING LOCALE.

DESIGN PROCESS INTENT

THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT WILL FORM A PRECINCT WITHIN WHICH LOCALE RESIDENTS MAY UTILISE FOR THE AESTHETICALLY PLEASING, AND CONVENIENTLY LOCATED SERVICES AND AMENITIES. BY ATTRACTING MEMBERS OF THE ADJACENT COMMUNITIES, AND WELCOMING THEM INTO THE RELAXED ENVIRONMENT OF THE DEVELOPMENT, THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO GAIN LOCAL KNOWLEDGE AND LOCAL HANDS ON EXPERIENCE, ADVICE, AND DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS, THAT MAY BE IMPLEMENTED INTO FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS AND RENOVATIONS IN THE SURROUNDING AREAS AND BEYOND. THE BUILDING PROVIDES ALL AMENITIES AND SERVICES FOR ONE TO TWENTY MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC, CREATING THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE WHO KNOW THE LOCALE TO PROPOSE AND CONTRIBUTE TO FUTURE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENTS WITHIN THE CITY OF BRISBANE. FURTHERMORE, THERE ARE ASPIRATIONS THAT ALLOWING MEMBERS OF DIFFERENT DEMOGRAPHICS TO COLLABORATE MAY REDUCE SOCIAL PROBLEMS SUCH AS THE AGE GAP, VANDALISM AND THE LIKE. NEVERTHELESS, THE OUTCOME WILL RESULT IN A PROPOSAL FOR THE SURROUNDING LOCALE OR BEYOND, THAT IS TRULY CATERED TOWARDS AND MEETS THE NEEDS AND WANTS OF THE COMMUNITY IN QUESTION.

TIES MADE BY THE GREEN ROOF WERE DESRIBLE BUT UNACHIEVABLE, SUCH AS THE ELEVATOR SHAFT, AND STAIR BALUSTRADES
