A Fond Farewell to Barry Cobb – 47 Years of Passion, Purpose and People.

After over a decade of shaping unforgettable holidays, Barry Cobb is stepping back to begin a well earned next chapter. As he reflects on his time here, Barry shares his thoughts in his own words:

I joined Johnsons just after Christmas in 2012 to help with a brochure – what started as a one-month role turned into twelve amazing years.

A New Chapter for Our Holidays.

As Barry steps back, we warmly welcome Rob Carroll as our new Head of Own Products, ready to build on a legacy of excellence.

With Barry embarking on a well-earned retirement, I’m thrilled to have been handpicked by Barry himself to follow in his footsteps.

My own travel journey began in 1994, looking after customers on a campsite in France, but I’ve spent the last 25 years curating

I’ve always focused on creating holidays that feel special and it’s been incredibly rewarding to see so many customers return year after year. In 2024, over 26,000 people travelled with us – a figure I’m really proud of. One highlight has been the growth of our Luxury Traveller brand, which now makes up around 60% of our in-house tours and has been hugely popular with customers.

From writing over sixty brochures to leading WW1 battlefield tours, I’ve loved bringing my passions into the role – especially trips to places like Cornwall, Jersey and Scotland. As I hand over the reins, I’m looking forward to spending more time with my wife Jacqueline and I’ll always be grateful to our loyal customers – helping to create holidays you’ve loved has been one of the great joys of my life.

Your travel pack

Holiday travel packs are sent out 7 to 10 days prior to your holiday. These will be sent via email, unless we do not have your consent to send via emails, in which case they will be sent by post. Your travel pack will include your home pick-up time, hotel details itinerary and any additional information about your holiday.

Luggage Labels

You no longer need to attach luggage labels yourself in advance. These will now be provided directly to your feeder driver or courier on the day of travel. If you're using our Door-to-Door pick-up service, your driver will attach the label when collecting you. If you're driving to the depot, the labels will be ready and attached by your driver or courier before you board the main coach.

Single Travellers

Your Seat Reservation

For your comfort and relaxation ALL departures are operated by our own high speciﬁcation ‘Club Class’ coaches or our ‘Luxury Traveller’ coaches. Each has extra passenger legroom, comfortable reclining seats, plus toilet and hot drinks as well as great sightseeing from the high passenger deck. Once booked, your seat number is reserved for the whole holiday.

Please note that you are required by law to wear your

belt at all times when the vehicle is in motion.

We are well-known for looking after our many customers who need a single room. As well as increasing our single bedded rooms where possible, here is our ‘Single Traveller Price Promise’. Some travel companies make extra profit from single travellers by inflating the single supplement. It goes without saying that Johnsons never has and never will. Where hotels don't charge a supplement for single rooms, we also charge no supplement. Where hotels do charge extra for sole occupancy of a room, we promise we will only ever pass on the extra amount we are charged by the hotel. We are honest, inclusive and grateful for your company.

Monday After being collected from your home, we travel to Falmouth with comforts stops as required and a main stop for lunch before arriving late afternoon with time to relax before dinner.

Tuesday We head to the Cornish Capital – Truro, where you can spend time exploring the cobbled streets and Georgian Houses or visit the stunning Cathedral. We then continue to the delightful ﬁshing village of Mevagissey this pretty village is packed with character and Cornish charm.

Wednesday A day at leisure in Falmouth. After your full breakfast we shall transfer you to the town quay where there will be free time to explore the town.

Thursday After breakfast we travel to St Erth where we board the local train

Tuesday – Newquay and ‘Christmas Day’ Today you have the day at leisure in Newquay to enjoy the hotel festivities.

Wednesday – Bodmin Moor, Bodmin Jail and ‘Boxing Day’ This morning we drive across the imposing Bodmin Moor, stepped in history and tales of the “Beast of Bodmin” that supposed roams the moors. We then visit Bodmin Jail, where the past comes back to life. Built in 1779 for King George III, Bodmin Jail has played an important role in Cornwall’s history and will give you a chance to delve into an intriguing hidden history.

Thursday Today we travel north to Doc Martin country visiting the ﬁshing village of Padstow famous for its ﬁsh restaurants. Port Isaac better known as

The Esplanade Hotel is perfectly located in a quiet residential area at the western end of Newquay, right on top of Fistral Beach and views of Fistral Bay can be enjoyed from the front of the hotel. All the 93 wellappointed bedrooms are served by a lift and have en-suite bathroom, hairdryer, satellite TV and tea/coffee maker.

Sun 28 Dec A Full Days Guided Tour to Montserrat – Join us on our excursion to Montserrat, known locally as the ‘serrated mountain’. We travel through the mountains north of Barcelona to the site of the famous Benedictine monastery. In 1025 the Abbot of Ripoli and Bishop of Vic officially founded the Monastery of Montserrat, and today there are around one hundred monks who are based here. Montserrat Monastery means different things to different people and this is all reﬂected in its attractions. For many pilgrims to Montserrat it is an entirely spiritual experience., however, if you are not a religious person you will still ﬁnd that there is a great deal of interest at Montserrat Mountain and Monastery. The chapels, beautiful Basilica and turbulent history make it a fascinating place to visit.

Mon 29 Dec A Half Day to Lloret de Mar – We visit nearby Lloret de Mar, the busiest and liveliest resort on the Costa Brava. Lloret was once a sea trading and ship building town, but is now popular with holidaymakers and houses a wide choice of restaurants and plenty of shops.

Tue 30 Dec A Full Days Guided Tour to Girona – Today’s included excursion takes you to the charming town of Girona. Behind the colourful houses lining the River Onyar is the Old Town, with its imposing Gothic cathedral and maze of narrow streets. Have a stroll along the pedestrian Rambla de la Libertat lined with arcades, shops and pavement cafés.

Monday We travel to the ferry port for our sailing to the Isle of Wight, arriving at our hotel in time for dinner.

Tuesday This morning we travel to Cowes, best known as the world’s premier yachting centre and the island’s main port with a natural harbour. From here we travel the short distance to Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s palace by the sea. Look out for Victorian opulence, extravagant interiors and jaw-dropping Indian decor in the Durbar Room. Osborne was built as a family home and as you walk through the Queen’s bedroom, the nursery rooms and even royal bathrooms, you get an intimate glimpse into royal family life.

Day 1 To Dover for the ferry to Calais then across Belgium and into Holland, arriving at our hotel in time for dinner.

Day 2 Following breakfast we travel to the famous Keukenhof Gardens Day 3 We enjoy a steamboat ride around the Ijsselmeer coast to Medemblik (Light refreshments –Tea/coffee & Apple Pie included), before taking a fascinating ride by historical steam tram to Hoorn Day 4 Today we take a fascinating visit through the colourful windmills of Zaanse Schans.
