FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM Residents 3rd Year

Class of 2022 Victoria Calvelage, DO

Hometown: Phoenix, AZ Medical School: A.T. Still University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona Passions in Family Medicine – why do you love the specialty? I love Family Medicine f or the unique opportunity to build relationships and support patients and their whole f amilies. Every day is different and provides incredible opportunities to support patients in a variety of ways. Hobbies outside of residency: I spend as much f ree time as I can outdoors with my dogs! We hike of ten because that is their f avorite activity. They also try to do yoga with me, which is always an adventure. But, they don’t like running, so I do that on my own. ;) Why HonorHealth? I chose to train at this program for the people; my colleagues, attendings and the patient population. We have such a supportive group of residents and attendings that support learning and growth. Furthermore, it is incredibly rewarding to provide care to patients who truly need our help and resources through a FQHC. Fun Fact about living in Scottsdale/Arizona: There is great hiking within the city limits and excellent food (read: tacos) on every corner. I was born and raised in Arizona and stayed f or the beauty of the desert and the variety of climates a short drive in any direction.

Nicole Casey, MD

Hometown: Tucson, AZ Medical School: University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson Passions in Family Medicine – why do you love the specialty? I love f amily medicine because of the continuity of care. I have had the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with patients in my continuity clinic that have made residency and this career so f ulfilling. I also love that family medicine means caring for people from birth through death. Hobbies outside of residency: I spend my time out of work primarily with my husband and our three fur babies Petri, Blossom and Freddie. We love cooking new recipes, playing board games, and enjoying the outdoors. Why HonorHealth? I chose HonorHealth because I f elt like I belonged. The f aculty and residents are kind, eager to teach, and supportive. It was my f irst-choice rank and I have no regrets. Being an unopposed program means residents have a lot more autonomy and ability to work one on one with specialists and attendings. There is no doubt that this program has pushed me to become a better physician. Fun Fact about living in Scottsdale/Arizona: There is af fordable housing, so don’t let Scottsdale’s reputation f ool you. The hospital and clinic are in the heart of Old Town. There are numerous restaurants, coffee shops, and bars within walking distance from the hospital. We are also only a few hours away from the forested mountains if you ever want to escape the desert.
