Meet to Create

EmpArtolution - Meet to Create Operating under the name Meet to Create, in April 2015, EmpArtolution brought together four artists for nine days in the Fabrik45 in Bonn. Using the keynote of EmpArtolution, there has been no given theme or restriction of content creation in the beginning. For the timespan of seven days the participants were able to create art freely, with one component connecting all artists. The created art was exhibited during the two final days. The Artists MICHAEL FALKENBACH constructs controls and synthesizers out of electronic components, roughly summarized as noise-boxes, DIY, circuit-bending and toy-hacking. He is driven by the infinitive potential of creating new tunes, outside the box of musical scales and music theory restrictions. Softly swinging sinus waves, they become scratching saws, and pulsing squarewaves turn to subtle or brutal sound formations. Some times techno, sometimes ambiant and calm. JO HEMPEL is a Photographer, Cultural Activist and Archaeologist. His artistic expression spans between a conjunction of photography and installation. His photos capture everyday occurrances as well as outstanding situations from familiar and unknown sceneries, places and situations. At Meet to Create, he managed to merge the organiser, the artist and documenter in unison.

MEN DURI MELCHER creates his own fauna out of bottles, glass and various materials from our consumer society. This fauna interprets the term „upcycling“ in Melcher’s own and special way. From wine bottles, flexible tubes, ropes and horns, he creates oversized animals and lifeforms - as you might find in the deep sea, for example. These creatures become alive just by the diversity of materials used in their creation and they communicate with our world by light and sound. ROLAND REGNER mainly works with photography. His photographicartistic approach focuses on the conversion of his own personal experience that is lived and shaped by psychological questions, into a visual medium. He stresses the reflection of photography as a media of personal and collective historiography.

The Project On April 18th, four artists moved into the Fabrik 45 with two transporters full of materials. On the same evening, workspaces have been set up and the agreement clarified – which was not to search for a unified theme by any means. The participants agreed on working on their own ideas at first and not to discuss or build-up possible connections.until the fifth day. As expected, having four awkward artists who do not know each other very well working together in a small space sparked some conflict between the artists. EmpArtolution’s approach to develop art on an empathic basis, and the interhuman tension and evolution experienced in the process, is the core experience and what makes it a success. The activities inside the temporary atelier Fabrik45 have been documented on film and in photos in periodical terms and published on the project’s Facebook and webpage. Quite often people passed by to take a look at the work in progress, including a darkroom, computer workspaces, sound laboratory and the rather chaotical atelier corner. Some visitors even stayed to cooperate. Darkroom and Synthesizer workshops have been set-up and were open for the public, wich have been accepted enthusiastically by the mostly collegiate participants. Guided by the architectural conditions, the separate art pieces and the mental connection of the artists grew and unified. Furthermore, the sound elements done by Michael Falkenbach will be the unifying elements connecting all artists and art pieces Overall, it has been an impressive experience with the integrated collaboration of art pieces with sound elements. During the long Vernissage night on Saturday, about 150 visitors came to the exhibition. On the final Sunday afternoon, another 50 visitors came by. The grown-up and young visitors were especially excited by the interactive sculptures and playful moments. For the involved artists and the organisers, Meet to Create has been a successful project with a lot of positive feedback.
