I was in 5th grade in class in NYC. My teacher got a call from her husband and we went onto drudgereport.com and watched all the updates. My friend’s mom died.
I was on the phone with an MCI telephone agent, discussing some portion of my phone bill. In the middle of a sentence, he said, “Hey man...have you turned on the TV today?” I quickly said goodbye and watched the rest of the day. Peter Jennings was in perfect form, navigating ABC News reporters and leading us through the horrible activities of the morning.

We were living in Houston, Texas. I had just sent our girls off to school for Picture Day. While chatting with a group of friends via email, someone mentioned that a plane had just hit one of the WTC towers. I ran to turn on the television, and the rest is history. jennifer burton baxter acu graduate and parent
I was heading to my l speech class at ACU. I was curious about why a crowd was gathering around the television in the Campus Center, but I still had that wide-eyed freshman enthusiasm and didn’t want to be late to class. When I arrived, all... the faces in the classroom were turned toward the TV, and many of my classmates were crying. I got there right before the second tower fell, and I wasn’t sure what I was watching at first. The professor told us we could go back to our dorms to watch the news if we wanted, but no one moved the entire class time. We just sat in silence and cried and wondered what it all meant. tiffany williams former optimist staff member
We were building the Williams Performing Arts Center and I was down in the hole in the ground which would become the basement. One of the guys on the site who worked for the general contractor came down and said a plane had flown into one of the WTC towers but he did not know what kind of plane. A while later the project manager came out and said there had been a second plane flown into the other tower. We knew these were intentional attacks by then. Very sad day.
Memories
of 9/11 Today was a day of terror when the Twin Towers fell, It seems to be a horror story to tell. People screaming, yelling for help, as they knew they would die; Many heard their loved ones and began to cry; That whole week no planes could fly. When I saw it on TV I said to myself, “How can this be? Why would someone do such a terrible tragedy?” That night I prayed to God and told Him I was scared Because I cared For the ones who died on this day of Terror.

I was in the Optimist editor’s office (now the storage closet on the third floor of Don H. Morris Center) when Rachel McGuire called with a question about her story that week. She said, “By the way, I’ve got the TV on, and it looks like something big might be happening.” I went down to the Reading Room where Susan Lewis was turning on the only TV on the floor, and we were watching when the second tower collapsed. jessica smith former optimist editor
