A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear Sacred Heart Community, My heart is full of gratitude. We are incredibly blessed to have such a dedicated community supporting our mission of diverse learners to become globally minded, compassionate leaders. The 2024-2025 school year was a remarkable period of programs, activities, and growth across our four schools, Sacred Heart School for the Arts, Sacred Heart Preschool, Sacred Heart Model School, and Sacred Heart Academy. Our Heads of Schools – Mrs. Davis, Mrs. Washle, Mrs. Huber, and Dr. Adams – will share updates in their annual letters.

I would like to highlight some achievements that underscore our commitment and passion to deliver an exceptional Catholic, Ursuline education, and to nurture the future of Sacred Heart Schools.

Our Sacred Heart administration, faculty, and staff walk in the footsteps of the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville and St. Angela Merici to provide a Catholic, Ursuline education rooted in our Ursuline Core Values of reverence, service, leadership, and community. Those are really big shoes to fill. Our schools have a long and rich history of nurturing the holistic development of our students academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. In fact, during the 20242025 school year, Sacred Heart Model School celebrated its 100th anniversary of educating elementary students.

We have made great strides in bringing our Sacred Heart Forever strategic plan to life over the past few years to ensure our campus thrives for generations to come. During the quiet phase of our Sacred Heart Forever campaign, we have established the Office of Catholic Identity and Ursuline Charism, increased our endowment and scholarships, enhanced programs and student experiences, and updated our facilities thanks to the passion and generosity of our Sacred Heart community. This year, after close collaboration with the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, we announced the creation of our new state-of-the-art Ursuline Innovation STEM Center, the first of its kind in the region offering hands-on learning experiences in environmental science, engineering, and sustainability for Sacred Heart Model School and Sacred Heart Academy students. We also announced the creation of the Ursuline Environmental Education Program, aligned with the Catholic faith and Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si’, or “Care for our Common Home,” which includes reverence and love for all creation and the interconnectedness of all living things, including the planet.

Your incredible generosity is ensuring that Sacred Heart Schools will be here – not just today – but forever. We are dreaming BIG and have BOLD endeavors yet to come. Your dedication to Sacred Heart allows us to live our Ursuline values proudly and shape the servant leaders who will bring positive change to the world.

FUNDRAISING PRIORITIES Annual Fund The Annual Fund is Sacred Heart’s top giving priority, supporting every student, every day. Gifts are used immediately to meet the school’s greatest needs, from faculty development and program enhancements to tuition assistance, arts, athletics, and more. Most importantly, gifts to the Annual Fund allow Sacred Heart to maintain the tradition of an excellent, Catholic education while keeping tuition increases to a minimum.

Sacred Heart Forever Campaign The Sacred Heart Forever Campaign is a bold investment in our students’ future focused on transforming campus facilities, growing endowment resources, and strengthening the Annual Fund. Together, these priorities advance our vision to empower every student to thrive today and lead tomorrow.

Interlude Our signature spring gala and auction directly support the immediate needs of each school. A highlight is Lead with Heart, which raised over $170,000 in 2024–25 for student financial assistance. These gifts ensure deserving students can access a Sacred Heart education.

Endowment Endowment gifts secure Sacred Heart’s future by generating lasting income for tuition assistance, faculty growth, and program innovation.

Contributions of any size strengthen existing funds. New endowed funds can be established with gifts of $25,000 or more.

Student Scholarships Endowed scholarships make Sacred Heart accessible for families facing financial barriers or changing circumstances. These funds ensure students can continue benefiting from a Sacred Heart education.

St. Angela Merici Circle We honor those who include Sacred Heart in their estate plans. Planned gifts through wills, trusts, retirement accounts, or life insurance provide an enduring impact for future generations.

Capital Projects At times, the Board of Trustees identifies special initiatives such as new facilities, enhanced spaces, or endowment growth. These are funded through capital campaigns, typically pledged over three to five years. Families, alumnae/i, trustees, and friends are all invited to participate in these transformative projects.

Addition of new JFLI Director Emily Karem Over 40% of the Class of 2026 will complete the two-year Frazier Fellows leadership certificate program, the signature capstone experience at Sacred Heart Academy where students complete every program offered within JFLI. Nearly 40% of the Class of 2026 will graduate having completed an internship for academic credit through the Charles Kane Family Internship Program, exploring a career path, and developing in-demand skills in professional setting.

The arts are a vital piece in the greater education puzzle. At Sacred Heart School for the Arts, we blend music, theatre, dance, voice, and visual arts instruction into developing the artistic capabilities of students of all ages. We build upon the legacy and talent of many Ursuline Sisters, who believed in the importance of the arts from the very earliest days of our campus’ formation. Our students live the Ursuline Core Values of reverence, service, leadership, and community each day as they explore all the arts that build character, confidence, and leadership.

This past year at SHSA, we enjoyed record enrollment and showcased our talented students through six shows in the fall, including Frozen Jr., Imagine A Dragon, and Charlotte’s Web, as well as the Nutcracker Ballet, and Guys and Dolls in partnership with SHA. Our Dance Cabaret showcased students in Bollywood, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, and Musical Theatre Jazz.

In the spring, we produced eight shows, including Seussical Kids, Alice in Wonderland, Shrek Jr., and in partnership with SHA, Into the Woods. Our students also performed the Sleeping Beauty Ballet and two dance showcases featuring talents from all ages. We capped a successful season with our amazing community performance of The Music Man, which featured adults and children gracing our stage, many performing with family members and friends. It was a joyous and moving experience for all!

We were thrilled to have our SHSA students and faculty receive six nominations for the inaugural Kentucky Performing Arts Bradley Awards. The Bradley Awards are an official regional awards program of the National High School Musical Theatre Awards® (NHSMTA®), known also as The Jimmy Awards®.

Congratulations to Finnegan Broyles for his Bradley Award win for Best Supporting Actor for his standout performance as Rapunzel’s Prince in Into the Woods. We were also proud to be the only Catholic high school in Kentucky and Southern Indiana to receive six nominations.

We also launched our new immersive arts program, UPAC (Ursuline Performing Arts Collective) for high school students. UPAC is a rigorous, pre-professional after-school program offering students a scope and sequence of training in the performing arts. Our program is committed to providing a space for young artists to explore their creative potential within a framework of encouragement and artistic excellence.

Throughout SHSA, we believe in developing the next generation of performing artists who show character and grit. We strive to instill a growth mindset of “process over perfection” because work and learning in the arts is tough and requires grit and perseverance.

Our family of artists continues to build community one heart at a time. We are looking forward to showcasing our amazingly talented students and faculty in the coming year. There is nothing quite like the innocence, pure joy, and wonder of a young child. At Sacred Heart Preschool, we delight in teaching our youngest learners about the amazing world around us. We nurture their vibrant spirits and introduce them to the joy of learning, rooted in the Ursuline Core Values we all share. Every day is a delightful adventure, and our children bring smiles to everyone on the Ursuline Campus.

As we begin a new chapter, I am thrilled to take on the role of Director at this wonderful school, alongside long-time SHP teacher, Laura Timpe, who serves as our Assistant Director of Curriculum. Having served as Assistant Director from 2013 to 2022, I am honored to return in this new capacity.

Together, Laura and I are committed to building a culture of collaboration, respect, and continued growth for our students, faculty, staff, and community.

Sacred Heart Preschool is proud to offer the only International Baccalaureate (IB) program for preschoolers in Louisville, introducing and nurturing lifelong learning and respect for self and others.

Our children delight in learning, laughter, and building sweet friendships, guided by teachers who care deeply and help them explore exciting new things each day.

This past year, Sacred Heart Model School celebrated our amazing milestone of 100 years of success in the Ursuline tradition. From joyous celebrations with lots of birthday cake and laughter, to solemn moments to give thanks to God for guidance and success, our students honored the unique legacy of being a part of such a treasured school.

I was humbled and inspired as I heard from so many SHMS alumnae and former teachers on how our school has shaped their lives. I proudly promise them all that our students continue to reflect the Ursuline Core Values and tradition of educational excellence that SHMS is known for throughout Louisville.

For over a century now, we have been the “model” of a superior education for young students preparing for their high school experience. Our students are rooted in a strong educational foundation, a reverence and love of God and our world, and a focus on service. The values and decades of service the Ursuline Sisters have gifted us are practiced daily at SHMS and we are grateful for their leadership and continued inspiration.

In the 2024-2025 school year, we enjoyed record enrollment of 430 students and many shining examples of academic success for our students. Our academic teams excelled at the KAAC Governor’s Cup, with our Level 6 Showcase and SHMS Quick Recall teams winning first place. Our Middle Grades placed high in District 3 competitions and several students advanced to the state-level competitions.

Our strong robotics team, the Bearbots, competed in regional competitions and placed second, and later advanced to the state competition. They received the Engineering Excellence Award and were invited to the National Waffle Invitational in Worcester, Massachusetts, this summer. We fielded a successful K-8 chess team, and several students showcased their top spelling talents in local and regional spelling bee contests.

All these students started as IB learners in kindergarten and now compete as middle school students who think critically and succeed in their academic challenges. Our IB focus, as well as our upcoming learning opportunities in the new Ursuline Innovation STEM Center, help our SHMS students apply their thinking and learning skills to real-world applications, expand their communication skills and develop self-management skills that will serve them well throughout life.

As we embark on our next 100 years, our students understand the significance of our history on the Ursuline campus. With your gracious and honored support, we continue to build momentum and grow our solid teaching framework that gives our children the benefits of an Ursuline-based education that will launch them into their high school careers. I can't help but reflect on the many incredible successes our students enjoyed during the 2024-2025 school year. Guided by our Ursuline Core Values of reverence, service, leadership, and community, our students challenged themselves, grew in their faith, and formed a bond of SHA sisterhood that they will carry with them for a lifetime.

An incredible 90% of the Class of 2025 earned college scholarships totaling more than $38 million, averaging more per student than any Catholic High School in Louisville. They received national recognition in many areas, including academics, athletics, and the arts. We celebrated their many achievements with a beautiful and memorable graduation ceremony held at “home” on the SHA campus for the first time in decades.

In the past year, we have strengthened our Learn and Lead pathways with a strong focus on engineering and STEM studies. We are thrilled to watch the expansion of the Ursuline Innovation STEM Center as it engages students in hands-on experiences in environmental science, engineering, and sustainability, and to grow our unique partnership with the University of Louisville’s Speed School of Engineering.

Our core business curriculum is also enjoying a renaissance and growth. We are proud of our IB Business Management students who now completely manage and operate our student coffee shop in partnership with Heine Brothers. We are growing future entrepreneurs with every cup of coffee served and every business leadership class we offer. Programs from our IB curriculum and the Lucy Lee Helm ’75 Leadership track of the Jean Frazier Leadership Institute involve all our students and build real-world connections that are unparalleled in our area.

Becoming a strong SHA woman includes educating the mind, body, and spirit. As we celebrate our success in the arts and athletics – including the incredible five-peat state basketball championship and other state titles in golf, soccer, swim and dive – we also look forward to the expansion and availability of fitness courses and opportunities for all students in the coming year in our renovated weight room.

Our teachers, administrators, and staff, guided by the teaching legacy of the Ursuline Sisters, daily inspire our students to be their best. Our large freshman class of over 230 students reflects the excitement felt by all on campus. As we grow, we work diligently to maintain smaller, personal class sizes that ensure every student is treated as a valued individual who can reach her goals and dreams.

May the spirit and success of all our treasured alumnae, parents, grandparents, and other donors guide our students as the next generation of SHA Valkyries become strong women of great faith. All funds for SHS or any of its four member schools are handled separately from the Ursuline Sisters. Gifts for the Ursuline Sisters are received into the Sisters’ Office of Development and are used exclusively for the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville. Gifts for SHS, Sacred Heart Academy, Sacred Heart Model School, Sacred Heart Preschool and Sacred Heart School for the Arts are used exclusively for the schools and their programs and are received into the SHS Office of Advancement.
