Chances are, if you are a John Knox Village resident, you know Vicki Stein. But do you know Vicki Stein's history at John Knox Village?

Vicki is currently our longest serving employee with 36 years of continuous service under her belt. But did you know that Vicki’s history with JKV goes back even further?

Vicki’s relationship with JKV began in 1984 when she worked as the secretary to the building manager for MW Builders. MW Builders was the construction company hired to build JKV's 120bed nursing home. When construction on the nursing home drew to a close in 1986, Vicki knew her time with the community was also coming to a close. She was so disturbed at the thought of leaving the community, that when an opportunity was presented to her by then administrator Barbara Robinson to continue working for JKV in the Maintenance Department inventorying the maintenance tool crib, she accepted.

After two months in the Maintenance Department, Vicki soon found herself working as Mrs. Robinson’s executive secretary when the position opened. She has been with administration ever since, although the location of her office has changed over the years. Many changes have taken place over the last 36 years of Vicki’s tenure, besides her office location.

Vicki’s daughter Ashley was almost born at JKV. That’s right, Vicki went into labor while at work and did not even realize it. For a few scary moments she thought Ashley would be delivered in our Med Center! Luckily, security was on hand to drive her to the hospital where she was united with her husband and, 45 minutes later, Ashley was born. As the executive assistant to the Chief Administrative Officer, Vicki is responsible for record keeping, the communication between residents, administration, and other employees, as well as keeping up to date on any federal and state guidelines regulating communities like John Knox Village.

When she is not working, Vicki enjoys cooking, baking, reading, spending time with her grandchildren, music, walking her Chihuahua- Elvis, visiting life-long friends, and keeping in touch with her mother who resides in an assisted living facility in Ohio.

What is the most common question she gets from residents? Surprise! It is: “Is Mr. Trainor in?”

We are all thankful for Vicki’s continuous service to John Knox Village and its residents.
