Judy's Crafts

Judy's Crafts By Louise Caccamise

For many years Judy McNaney has added beauty to her world and that of those around her with the wide variety of handicrafts she has made. Working with both paper and cloth, she has seemingly created magic.

As busy as she was with raising four daughters, she found time to add smocking to both their summer and winter dresses when they were very young. She has given a coordinated look to many outfits by making matching jackets and caps, and simple dresses have become very stylish with her matching hats.

Many pillows add both comfort and beauty throughout her home. She has done detailed quilting on some; others are knitted. Some pillow covers are woven on a hand loom.

Paper Beads

Pillowcases have embroidered designs and hand towels have both embroidery and lace edges. Kitchen potholders are individually knitted in beautiful colors and designs. Elaborate wall hangings are made on a hand loom to match the décor of the room.

By patiently rolling narrow strips of colored paper into individual beads, long strands of paper beads are made into necklaces. Each necklace, no two alike, is a work of art. Matching earrings can also be added.

Other beautiful creations from paper are her individually designed greeting cards. This last Christmas season they were available in packs of five at the West Volusia Historical Society Gift Shop in DeLand. At Christmas she also made quilted Christmas tree ornaments with intricate designs and decorated gift boxes.

A current project is a charming picture book that she and a daughter are working on for her great-grandson Christopher. In simple language and with colorful photographs, the book tells the story of all the things that Christopher loves to do. Now, though only four years old, he realizes what a special person his greatgrandmother is.
