Two beautiful announcement posters by Mary T. Clark signaled the opening of JKV’s first Resident Artwork Exhibit on July 1, 2021.

Two more residents joined the committee this year – Dot Hosterman and Rick Larkin, and a wine and cheese reception was held to open February’s exhibit. To date there have been three exhibits with 41 residents showcasing a total of 109 pieces of art. Over 15 different mediums have been on display, as well as many different types of embroidery and stitchery. Plans are already underway to hold the next exhibit in August.

It has been an exciting project and a new experience for all subcommittee members. We are pleased our exhibition walls provide a place to share the creations of our talented residents with the entire John Knox Village community.

In early 2021, a suggestion was made to enhance the atmosphere in the Bay Dining Room by displaying JKV resident artwork. That suggestion made its way to JKV’s Activities Committee where a subcommittee was formed to brainstorm the project’s feasibility, map out the project’s scope and develop an outline for exhibitions. Three residents made up the subcommittee at that time – Claudia Graham, Ellie Wells and Karen Yaris.

The subcommittee met over several months to develop guidelines for exhibiting artwork and a project schedule. They determined which walls would be used in the dining rooms and researched wall display systems. They created exhibit applications for residents and a labeling format for resident artwork.
