The FSU Chapter of SAM wins awards in national SAM Conference BY

The Florida State University Chapter of SAM (Society for Advancement of Management) participated in a business skills and case competition held during the National SAM Conference. During the conference, there were also awards given to chapters and individuals based on their service to the community through activity with their local chapters. The FSU Chapter had a big night, coming away with many of the top honors in the undergraduate division. The FSU SAM chapter won the Outstanding Chapter Award in the small chapter division. Even with the COVID restrictions, the club managed to participate in 8 community service projects, including carrying groceries to cars at a local food pantry and painting a deck and fence at the Goodnews Outreach campus. Kaitlyn Killeen and Satya Simpson were recognized as Regional Student Award winners while Harry Hirst was recognized as a National Student Award winner. In addition to the National Award, Harry was selected as the Overall Student of the Year award winner for the SAM national organization. The FSU chapter was represented in the Business Case competition and written Business Plan competition. The team of Harry Hirst, Kaitlyn Killeen, Satya Simpson, and Mark Geller finished second in both events in the undergraduate division. FSU was represented by three students in the Business Skills events which included a Knowledge Bowl, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Business Pitch competitions. FSU earned a clean sweep in the Extemporaneous Speaking event, with Connor Jones placing first, Davis Taylor finishing second, and Ryan O’Malley winning third place. FSU also swept the Business Pitch Competition, with Davis Taylor taking home the top prize, Ryan O’Malley finishing second, and Connor Jones coming in third. In the Knowledge Bowl, FSU’s Connor Jones placed second while Ryan O’Malley and Davis Taylor finished tied for third. The last awards given were for overall achievement in all events. In the Individual Business Skills category, FSU’s Ryan O’Malley finished second while Connor Jones finished third. The FSU SAM Chapter also won first place in the Overall Team Business Skills competition in the Undergraduate Division.
