Description

Discover actionable strategies and evidence-based interventions to address the escalating social-emotional and mental health demands across all student age groups. In this session, participants will delve into targeted classroom activities and proactive approaches proven effective in bolstering the mental well-being of children in the supplementary school setting. You will gain insights into methodologies such as mindfulness practices, trauma-informed teaching techniques, and cognitivebehavioral strategies that will support your most vulnerable students and create strong, lasting relationships.

How can educators feel less overwhelmed by challenging behaviors in their classroom? In this session, participants will learn how behavior is a form of communication and how to identify what purpose unexpected classroom behaviors might be serving. You will learn the functions of behavior and how to address each one systematically. The session will empower educators to utilize proactive strategies for challenging behaviors and, when challenging behaviors do occur, to find the right tools for all to succeed.

In this workshop, participants will learn the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), a framework used to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all students. You will learn how to provide students with multiple means to engage with, represent, and express their learning. By using these principles, educators can create accessible learning environments for all students.

Creating thoughtful and inclusive lessons requires intentionality and skill. Gateways will work with your educators on a process that will enable them to develop engaging lessons that support all students in their classrooms. Educators will walk away with multiple options for lesson plan templates, organizing tools, engaging ideas and tools for differentiated instruction.

People experience and interact with the world around them in many ways. There is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving, and differences should not be viewed as deficits. This session will help educators understand neurodiversity and create learning environments in which neurodivergent students can thrive.

Teen Madrichim

Training — Introduction

Differentiation and Modifications (Advanced Course Offering)

Jodi Katz, Behavioral Specialist

Nearly 10% of children will be diagnosed with ADHD at some point in their lives. In this workshop, educators will consider how to adapt their environments and teaching modalities to set students with ADHD up for success within the supplementary school setting.

Often, the burden is placed on Autistic students to adapt to neurotypical settings that are not designed with their profiles and needs in mind. This workshop will lay the foundation for creating classrooms, lessons, activities, and systems that proactively set Autistic students up for success.

When Teen Madrichim (teachers’ aides) are trained properly and utilized effectively in congregational school classrooms, inclusion becomes possible as students can now access the support they need. Through the Gateways Teen Madrichim Curriculum, teens are empowered with in-the-moment strategies for adapting and modifying the environment to set students up for success. This workshop will start the process of preparing school leaders and teachers to implement the training curriculum and support teen madrichim.
