Jewish Long Beach Launches Scholarship Program Promoting Participation in Jewish Summer Camp, Israel Experiences

Lynne Kass | VP of Fund & Community Development, Jewish Long Beach Board of Directors

Jewish Long Beach is pleased to announce the launch of a new Scholarship program to promote youth and young adult participation in Jewish summer camp opportunities, Israel experiences and other Jewish educational and leadership training programs. This year, Jewish Long Beach is funding over $42,000 in scholarships to 79 awardees representing a broad cross section of our Jewish community, including youth and families active with the Alpert Jewish Community Center, Congregation Lubavitch, Hebrew Academy, Shul by the Shore, Temple Beth David, Temple Beth Shalom, Temple Israel, and Temple Nar Tamid.

Our 79 awardees are enrolled in 16 different programs – local, national and international – including Camp Alonim, Camp Gan Israel Montreal, Camp Komaroff, Camp Mountain Chai, Camp

Newman, Hebrew Academy, Maccabi USA Israel and Silver Gan Israel Day Camp. Funding for these scholarships is made possible by the Jewish Long Beach Board of Directors, through the Gordon Lentzner Community Impact Grants program, as well as through the generous support of the following:

Robert Baldwin & Family - whose bequest provides funding for local youth & young adults to travel, study, and experience Israel

Rabbi Howard Laibson - whose endowment provides funding for local youth to attend Jewish sleepaway camp

Congregation Shir Chadash – whose legacy of caring for the next generation of Jewish leaders is sustained through proceeds of their building sale

The Jewish Connections Network – a Giving Circle created to increase access to Jewish educational and enrichment activities for Jewish children and families throughout our community.

We look forward to sharing the impact of these scholarships and the Jewish engagement that they will help to foster. Be on the lookout for articles from our scholarship recipients in future editions of the Jewish Community Chronicle where they will share their experiences with us! Future editions will also share more the Jewish Connections Giving Circle, and the Kaiser Family Israel Scholarship that benefits the Hebrew Academy and Beach Hillel students.
