J UST F OR S HOW

WELCOME
Dear Friends,

Thank you for joining our Just For Show event. Tonight, we gather to enjoy the company of friends and community leaders, listen to the songs and stories of Broadway legends Sandra Joseph and Rob Bohmer, and make Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas a meaningful difference for those whose lives are touched by JFS. Your presence here and the contributions you make enable JFS to provide comprehensive whole-person care.
For 72 years, JFS has served as “An Open Door to All in Need”. Over time, our services have grown to include individual and family counseling, diagnostic assessment and play therapy, family violence intervention, Holocaust survivor support, career and financial coaching, emergency assistance and food pantry services, services for older adults, and a clubhouse for those with severe, persistent mental illnesses.
As we do when the times or situation require it, JFS is evolving again and responding to a community emergency…access to healthcare.
JFS will be opening our first primary care medical clinic by the end of 2023 to serve and provide a medical home for the uninsured and underinsured. By adding medical care to our existing wraparound services, we are helping to address this unmet need for so many who have nowhere to go.
Our heartfelt thanks to our amazing Co-Chairs, Anita & Todd Chanon, and Michael Kaufman & Durward Watson, for their enthusiasm and tireless efforts that made tonight possible.
We are “Moving Forward Together,” and your contributions raised through this event are crucial to sustain and expand our life-changing services. We invite you to learn more about these services and how you can make a difference by visiting www.jfsdallas.org or contacting Chris Walters, Director of Development at cwalters@jfsdallas.org or 469-206-1675 for a personal tour.
Thank you again for your attendance, your generosity, and for being part of our JFS family.

THE MAJESTIC THEATRE

The Majestic Theatre opened its doors on April 21, 1921, as a vaudeville theatre. It was built by impresario Karl Hoblitzelle and designed by John Eberson, one of the foremost designers in the early 20th Century. As the vaudeville era came to an end in the 1930s, Hoblitzelle began to present movies in his theatres. The Majestic hosted film premieres with big stars in attendance, including Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck, John Wayne, and many others. The Majestic screened its last film in 1973. The Hoblitzelle Foundation gifted the Majestic to the City of Dallas in January 1976. After major restoration, the Theatre reopened on January 28, 1983, as a performing arts venue.
The Theatre currently presents performing arts events, concerts and comedy shows, and is also available for corporate meetings, nonprofit fundraisers, and private functions.

Together, We’re Creating Lasting Change
United Way of Metropolitan Dallas is proud to partner with Jewish Family Services of Greater Dallas to create opportunity for all North Texans to thrive.
At United Way, we lead a movement to improve access to education, income and health—the building blocks of opportunity.
Together with supporters like you, we’re positively impacting 1.5 million North Texans every year. More students are graduating prepared to succeed in college or a career, more young adults are achieving financial stability, and more of our neighbors are accessing the health resources they need to live longer, healthier lives. Live United and be part of the change right here at home.

Help for Today. Hope for Tomorrow.
The JFS Foundation supports the long-term viability of the mental health and social services of Jewish Family Service through planned giving and endowments. It allows thoughtful, generous people to make a lasting difference in our community for generations by ensuring the availability of JFS’ highquality, accredited services for any child, teen, adult, or older adult in need.

Establishing a fund or endowment to the Foundation is an investment in the long-term success and viability of the programs and services of JFS. While a yearly contribution to JFS makes an important, direct, and immediate impact, a Foundation fund helps secure the future of JFS services in the community.

COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER
What is the Need for Medical Services?
There are a disproportionate number of low-income residents that lack a medical home in North Texas.
Only 5% of the population that should be served by a community health center are actually seen in one of the existing centers.
Most go without taking care of their medical needs which only worsens many treatable conditions over time.
To fill this gap in services, JFS will become a medical healthcare provider. This service will not only provide a “medical home” for thousands of low-income and high-need community members, but it will also allow JFS to comprehensively address ALL the social determinants of health for the clients we serve.
Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas is uniquely positioned to take the next step in addressing this community need by becoming designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center or Community Health Center by 2024.
When we consider the number of lives we can impact each year –
What Will the Impact Be? an estimated 35,000 in medical and behavioral services alone
– the undertaking of an expanded space and becoming an FQHC will help us better provide an open door to all those in need. The greater impact will be realized as this model - launched and proven in Dallas - can be replicated at JFS agencies nationally; strengthening all these organizations both financially and through the services offered.
Consider this:
• An unhealthy individual is more likely to miss work and become unemployed...
• An unemployed individual is unable to provide for their basic needs; let alone have a healthy diet...
• An unemployed and unhealthy individual will likely have mental health issues and get stuck in the cycle of poverty...
