We met while in college at Bloomsburg University. It wasn’t until nearly 5 years later when I finally gave in (after many attempts on Steve’s part) to grab a drink at a local bar one Friday night. To my surprise Steve swept me off my feet almost immediately. It didn’t take long for both of us to realize we were meant to spend the rest of their lives together.

Steve’s parents were visiting from Florida and we were out celebrating one of their last nights in town. We met both sets of our parents at the Apollo Grille, a restaurant that holds a special place in our hearts, where we all shared a great meal, drinks, and many laughs. As dessert came out mine was the last one to be served.

When I looked down, “Will You…..” was written in chocolate syrup on a marble slab along side my dessert. When I finally looked down and realized why everyone was staring at me, I looked to Steve who was on one knee asking if I would marry him! The entire restaurant congratulated us and joined us in celebrating the amazing night.

Advice for future brides and grooms?

Enjoy every second. The engagement, planning, and wedding day go so incredibly fast - take some time to enjoy what is going on, even in the most stressful time. Vendor Spotlight: The State Theatre

Mezzanine/Lobby If you think theatre lobbies are just slick spaces selling overpriced popcorn, the State’s mezzanine/lobby area will be a welcome surprise. Dripping with opulence and drama, it offers an elegant, two-level setting for receptions of about 50 guests.

Acopian Ballroom Named for inventor, industrialist, environmentalist, and humanitarian Sarkis Acopian, the grand ballroom offers a traditional open-floor concept. Featuring round 60-inch tables and gold/ivory Chiavari chairs, the ballroom can provide a dance floor and theater-quality lighting and sound. An adjacent full kitchen is open to any licensed and insured caterer.

Main Stage You can actually have your wedding and reception on the same historic stage used by scores of national and international stars. It seats about 150 people (even more without a dance floor), and can provide a truly festive ambience.

“One wedding party used our scenery and props to create a ‘Tuscan villa’ backdrop for the ceremony, then switched it to an ‘Irish pub’ for the reception, with a bar right on stage,” Cook said. When it comes time to outfitting a groom and his attendants for the big day it can be a breeze -- if you deal with a supplier that’s truly professional.

Eve Tannery & Nolan Russo:

A Love That Was Meant to Be!

For Eve Tannery and Nolan Russo, the first meeting was a little different from the typical locking-eyes-and-falling tale you might expect from two people in love.

“We met at a Super bowl party in 2012. It was sort of a setup says Nolan. I knew I was there to meet her and she was there to meet me. It was about two hours into this party and we had yet to connect, so I knew I had to at least say hi and introduce myself. My brother has a big oak bar in his basement and that is where she was standing. I decided to walk over to the bar and strike up the conversation. To get behind the bar there’s this big paddle opening that lifts up and down, and she’s standing against 36 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

the bar and I walk over and accidentally hit the paddle and before I could even say one word, it came crashing down on her hand. I was so embarrassed as her hand immediately blows up and I’m profusely apologizing and there’s this back and forth of her trying to evaluate her hand to see if she’d have to go to the hospital to her playing it cool and saying “not a big deal, don’t worry about it”.

“So he really left his mark!” Eve laughs. “We became friendly after that but didn’t really

hang out until a year afterwards, when I invited him to the Snow Ball. Since I was asked to attend I thought, “who can I ask who won’t mind wearing a tux, won’t embarrass me, and will have fun hanging out in the Lehigh Valley with my friends?” So I basically kind of did the first “ask”, and we decided to hang out before that happened just to kind of get acquainted.

Our first date was in Philadelphia. As cheesy as it sounds, it was the one night I never wanted to end because we just had so much fun.”

When asked, “At what point did you realize they were the One?” Both Eve and Nolan agreed: The underlying chemistry and connection was an essential part of the bond we were forming. “You can’t replicate it, it just has to be there,” Nolan says, “and that lent itself to us hanging out all night and chatting the whole time, and it was comfortable and easy.” Eve agrees, “It was just a different kind of connection. So it did not take long for either of them to know that they had met their soul mate.

So how did Nolan finally pop the question?

“We moved out to New Jersey in June 2015, and I asked her the second week of August. We lived right next to this 40-acre park that had a beautiful restaurant up on the hill so we would go running, come home and shower, and then go out to dinner there maybe once a week. It was becoming our spot.” My sister was getting married the weekend afterwards, so it was important to me to have my fiancé there with me. It was an opportunity for us to all be there as a family, an official family.

“So we have this little duck that travels around with us, which was given to Eve by Shelley Brown, Executive Director at the State Theatre in Easton. I would mail this duck to her at work, she would put it in my car, I would put it in her suitcase if she was traveling, and every morning it would be in a new spot. So I had my sister go to the park that morning with the duck and attach the ring to it, and put the duck in a really nice part on the run where you leave an open meadow and head into the woods right by this river. So we came into the woods and came across the duck, and she’s like, “what is that doing here?” and picked it up, and the ring was attached to it, and there was this outburst of emotion.”

We spent about an hour and a half sitting at this spot by the river, and my sister brought us some champagne, and we just sat there and talked about life.”

Now the happy couple is in full wedding planning mode! Because family is so important to both Nolan and Eve, they’ve decided upon a wedding weekend where their families and friends can share an experience of love and togetherness. The wedding will take place in a relaxed, intimate vineyard setting in Virginia where guests can be themselves. You just said “yes” to the dress and you’re on your way to begin preparing for one of the most important days of your life!

Your personal bridal consultant will now be there for you to assist you in finding the best bridesmaid style to accent your dream gown.

The color theme should be discussed and should be a color the bride wears well accenting her skin tone, eyes, or hair as these bridesmaids will be the back drop for the bride’s most important photograph. Your wedding day will come and go however, your memories and your photographs will last a lifetime.

The bridesmaid style should reflect similar styling, or mood, of what the bride has selected.

Find a similarity in both styles to create an amazing photograph.

Selecting a different style for each maid is a big fashion trend. The colors are usually kept in the same shade. You need linens, you need flowers, you probably think you need candles – but how does all of this fit together? Those layers of design need to be addressed one piece at a time.

Here are a few of our favorites, and how they can help impact your design by thinking outside-of-the-box and building on a wonderful concept… LOVE!

Wedding Kissing Balls or Pomanders

Earlier used only as Christmas decorations, kissing balls or pomanders have now become quite popular for any kind of celebration or event that demands decoration. They are basically foam balls that are adorned with flowers, fabric, etc. to give it a round and full appearance. While the earlier versions were made using holly and mistletoe, today they are made using many different materials.

The favorite though is still flowers: real or artificial. They are used extensively to decorate wedding venues, tables and even as bridal and bridesmaids’ bouquets. They can garnish a mantel, be hung, fit into vases or be carried by a flower girl, very versatile!

The perfect place for a disconnect as well as a different flavor is the grooms cake – it can be a hobby, a game station or an armadillo (think Steel Magnolias!) and of course flavor options are limitless!

Table Linens

An often-sidelined element of wedding décor, table linen, is calling out to you to see and understand its importance. Table linen is that one constant at any wedding. Themes change, seasons change, colors change, but table linen is that one element that you simply cannot do without. Believe it or not, the linen at your wedding can play a major role in deciding the overall aesthetics of your wedding venue. The right linen can ameliorate it but the wrong one can make it look like a hodge podge of random stuff thrown together, like a failed attempt at a DIY wedding, and NO one wants that!

Place Cards

Place cards need not just have a functional purpose. Unique designs and versatile place card holders can be used to beautify the tables.

Ask The Expert Do I Need a Travel Agent and Why?

I can remember logging on to my old PC and using dial up and getting email on Prodigy. Does anyone remember Prodigy? It would take forever for pictures to load and forget even watching a video online. My goodness have things changed.

With the ease of finding information in a blink of an eye, there is also the feeling of being able to research and price vacations, hotel rooms, and airfare like a professional. I am actually glad that I no longer have clients blown away by prices because many now look things up on their own and already realize what the rates are. However, with this ease and convenience comes a “false” sense of security that planning a vacation, honeymoon, or even a destination wedding, can be handled properly without any help. I say “False” because making a reservation or doing research “does not an expert make”.

I have often talked about the book “The Outliers” with colleagues. This book details highly successful people (athletes, attorneys, inventors and musicians) and focuses on whether LUCK, hard work, family support, or education had an impact on their achievements. One thing they found in all of their research was that in every single example, one thing became quite evident, and that was that each person

had at least 10,000 hours experience before they gained fame, became an expert or earned their accolades. 10,000 hours! If I break that down, that is 5 years of focusing on a skill.

Now, most would agree that during the 40hour work week it is not possible to specifically and deliberately focus on one thing. So, I would estimate that 10,000 hours of practicing and trying to strive for improvement would take at least 10 years, if not more. Why am I bringing up the 10,000 hour point? Well, how many hours have you spent looking at rates or purchasing an airline ticket?

Ask The Expert (cont’d) Most travel professionals list the years they have in the industry or how many times they have been to a resort as part of their explanation of why you should use them. Travel Agents don’t have a CPA, PHD or MBA type designation in travel, so stating how many years one has been working as a travel agent seems to be the only standard that so many rely on.

That is a reasonable “starting point” in finding the right person to help you plan your wedding.

I guess you could put faith in someone that has years of being in that particular profession, but you should also look a little closer at what their focus has been over the years, their testimonials and the company they work for. Do they focus on Disney, cruises, or Europe? It is nice to be a “Jack of all trades”, but when you are dealing with your most precious wedding, I would think you want more from your agent than just years of experience as a travel agent. Here are some things to look for in your quest to find the right person to help you plan your destination wedding: 1-How long has your agent been dealing specifically with destination weddings? (It is

overall? Do they have specific testimonials related to destination weddings?

2-Have they been to this destination/resort.

This is a nice thing to ask, however just going to a resort doesn’t mean they know how that resort handles weddings. I have been to dozens of baseball games, but couldn’t tell you which row/seat is right behind home plate or when is the right time for a bunt or hit and run.

I just didn’t focus on that when I was there and didn’t focus on developing any particular expertise. A better question would be to ask your agent if they “ever planned a wedding at this resort or even attended a wedding at this resort”. Have they worked with the wedding coordinator from that resort and what have other brides said their experience was like?

Ask The Expert (cont’d) 3- Does this resort know your agent? My agency, VIP Vacations, has preferred resorts for a reason. We know these specific properties inside and out, assessed their ability to conduct weddings wonderfully and have developed relationships with the key resort personnel.

With all of this work, our preferred resorts also know us and know what we require and expect for our clients. They respect us and they treat our clients like VIP’s. We have won industry awards with specific resorts and our brand (VIP Vacations) speaks volumes when our clients check-in. That reassurance alone takes a lot of stress off of the bride/groom.

4-Personal Experience. Do you remember meeting someone and having so much in common that you instantly click? If you understand their perspective, and relate to them from your own experience, a bond can form and trust builds. I feel this is key in planning destination weddings. As you can

see from my blogs, I am a destination wedding bride. I know the stress, the anguish and the joy of everything that goes into planning this event.

5 – Foreign Weddings can be Tricky. Has the agent and agency developed specific knowledge on the laws, rules and regulations for the particular country or countries you are considering getting married in? There should be a detailed process that is explained to a couple when they are looking for a destination wedding agent. If your agent can’t detail the timeline, doesn’t update you on your guest list, doesn’t have the details of wedding options and can’t talk to you about the type of paperwork you will be receiving, then you need to move on. Being organized is one of the most important things to look

for. Ask your agent “what should I expect to happen next”. Knowing what is around the bend also takes the stress and worry out of the equation. Groups, especially large ones, require systems and processes in place to ensure that payments are made, guests are booked into their desired accommodations and proper documents are provided correctly and on time.

At the end of the day, destination weddings aren’t just a vacation you put together on a whim. Turning to an expert can save you time, money and aggravation!

Pa. Marriage License What You Need to Know by County Laws

Are you ready to walk down the aisle and exchange vows with the one you love? Are you ready for two worlds to join as one?

If you answered yes to either of these questions, then here is want you need to know in order to have a legal marriage in Pennsylvania. The marriage laws may vary from county to county as each marriage license bureau could have their own requirements and the appropriate Clerk of the Orphans’ Court office will have the specific requirements necessary in your local area.

That said, every couple that intends to get married in Pennsylvania must apply for a marriage license, and there are certain rules that govern who may get a marriage license, how to get it and when it is valid. According to the website: www.weddingvendors. com, Pennsylvania recognizes heterosexual and same sex marriages where the people wanting to marry are not currently married to someone else. In addition, the couple that wishes to marry can not be related as first cousins, parent and child, siblings, aunt and 86 Exquisite Bride | www.exquisitebride.net

nephew, uncle and niece or grandparent and grandchild. A person must be 18 years of age in order to get married without the consent of a parent or legal guardian. A person under the age of 16 must have the consent of a judge and a parent.

The couple must go in person to the county courthouse with a valid driver’s licenses, passport or another acceptable form of identification as well as proof of social security number in order to apply for a license. A license fee will be required with your application and the fee varies from $25 to $85 depending on the county. If either person has been previously married, he or she must bring proof of the divorce decree. This needs to state the date of the decree, the county and state and must provide for proof of name change if applicable.

A copy of an annulment must have the same information as the divorce decree. If a widow/ widower, the date when the former spouse dies is necessary.

Getting a new marriage license with your name on it doesn’t mean your name has automatically changed. An online marriage name change kit will help you with that. There is a 3-day waiting period in Pennsylvania and you can pick up your license up at the county court house or have it mailed to you. It is valid for 60 days and a marriage license obtained

The wedding must be officiated by a current or retired PA judge, mayor, minister, priest or a rabbi of a Pennsylvania town or city.

The license must be signed and certified by the officiant and given to the county within 10 days of the wedding. If it is not returned in time, the wedding may not be considered valid and you may have to apply for a new license.
