Virtual AUA
Virtual AUA September 10-13, 2021
The annual meeting of the American Urologic Association was scheduled to be held as an in-person meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two weeks before the meeting, the decision was made to convert to a virtual event. Most sessions were held, but events such as moderated poster and abstract sessions, were completed without real time moderators. The following were Department of Urology faculty, residents and students contributions to our major annual Urology meeting. See page 43 for details on the AUA Course “Urologic Care for the Advanced Practice Provider” CoDirected by Anne Lizardi-Calvaresi, DNP, RNFA. A complete listing of Jefferson Urology contributions is shown here. Even with a virtual program, the AUA provided the AUA Daily news each day of the meeting.

Transitioning from an in-person meeting to virtual did not lessen the impact of this major, annual urological meeting.
Jefferson Urology was well represented at the Mid-Atlantic American Urologic Association Annual meeting at National Harbor, MD, in September 2021. As most people’s first in-person meeting attendance since the pandemic, everyone’s spirits were high. Notable achievements include Dr. Andrew Salib (PGY5) who anchored his team’s victory in the annual resident Jeopardy Bowl competition, for which he and his teammates will move on to compete at the annual AUA Resident Competition in New Orleans. Announcements included the selection of Dr. Costas Lallas as President-Elect of the Mid-Atlantic Section, and the continuation of Dr. Anne Calvaresi as the APP representative to the Mid-Atlantic AUA Executive Board.
Jefferson Urology faculty, residents and students had numerous scientific contributions at the meeting, with a total of 12 abstract presentations (poster and podium). Our Jefferson Urology Scholars were actively involved in the meeting program. Dr. Lallas served as a podium panel moderator for a discussion on management of surgical complications, and Drs. Akhil Das, Paul Chung and Thenu Chandrasekar served as session moderators. A complete listing of Jefferson Urology presentation and abstracts is noted here.

Meetings and Presentations Residents Surgical Skills Workshop on Prosthetics
On December 2 and 3, 2021, Dr. Paul Chung arranged for the residents to participate in a surgical skills workshop on the placement of the inflatable penile prosthesis. The program was supported by an educational grant from Coloplast. Visiting speaker was Dr. Gerard Henry, a world renowned expert in urologic prosthetics used to treat a variety of conditions such as erectile dysfunction and incontinence. He is based in Bossier City, Louisiana near Shreveport and is part of the Willis Knighton Health System. Dr. Henry has been President of the Louisiana Urologic Society and the Society of Urologic Prosthetic Surgeons and has published and presented extensively in the field of urologic prosthetic surgery. Following didactic lectures, the residents worked under the supervision of Drs. Chung and Henry with models in the Alumni Hall anatomy labs to practice the proper surgical technique for the inflatable penile prosthesis.

“A Free Listing Assessment of Sexual Function and Relationships for Penile Prosthesis and Intracavernosal Injection Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction.”
Jefferson Health Wellness Webinar

Dr. Paul Chung participated in a webinar that focused on the management of Erectile Dysfunction. Dr. Joceline Fuchs from the MidLantic Urology practice also participated.
According to Nicholas Coffey, Marketing Director for Jefferson Health “This was one of the most successful webinars with one of the highest registrations we’ve had for a patient webinar. Interest was so high that 89 questions were submitted before the live event, the largest number of questions we’ve had for a webinar.”
Dr. Gomella Interviewed on “Your Radio Doctor”
Dr. Marianne Ritchie, Clinical Associate Professor in Jefferson’s Division of Gastroenterology, hosts a weekly Sunday radio show titled “Your Radio Doctor.” On June 27, 2021.
