JUP Urology Regional Expansion: Abington/Asplundh
In 2016, our Department was asked to establish a practice on the Abington campus. Three years ago we began outpatient office hours at the SKCC Asplundh Cancer Pavilion in Willow Grove. Our Jefferson Urology academic faculty has provided outpatient cancer and non-cancer consultation and care since that time. With the support of Jefferson Health and the Abington Hospital Division leadership we established our full time practice on August 1, 2021 at Jefferson-Abington Hospital. Initially working out of the Asplundh Cancer Pavilion, our fully functioning office in the Price Building will open in early 2022. This expansion included the addition of two new Abington dedicated JUP faculty, Drs. Whitney Smith and Patrick Gomella (see page 35). Dr. Thenu Chandrasekar is our Abington/ Asplundh Site Director working with urologic oncologists Drs. Mark Mann and Costas Lallas. We are also joined by our new Advanced Practice Provider Vivian Ngo, PA (see page 43). We are pleased to work with Temple urology residents that rotate at Abington and have coordinated this closely with Temple Urology Chair Dr. Jack Mydlo and Residency Program director Dr. Adam Reese. Our thanks to Peg O’Grady and Pam Frazier in particular for supporting and helping establish our new full time practice on the main Abington campus. Our Asplundh/Abington Urology team members include (left to right): Pam Frazier, Asplundh Practice Manager; Peg O’Grady,RN Administrative Director, Oncology Service Line; Noreen Weilgus, RN, MSN Nurse Navigator; Morgan Boetefeur, RN, Nursing; Marianne Keebler, Urology Registrar and Deidre Wayns, Medical Assistant. Vivian Ngo is our new Physician’s Assistant who is introduced on page 43.

Marlene Vallett, Ambulatory Operations Project Manager, outside our new Cherry Hill Office. This newly created position was essential as Jefferson University Urology expands beyond center city. Marlene primarily works with and reports to Dr. Gomella and Mr. Adam Messer, Urology Service Line VP, across the entire Urology enterprise. She will continue to support our center city practice coordinating with Scott Bowes, Janelle Browning and Anne Calvaresi in regards to operational issues. She will work in coordination with the center city leadership team to ensure systemwide practice alignment.
Some of Marlene’s specific roles include coordinating all aspects of new urology practice set ups, training new practice staff on organizational and departmental policies and procedures, and providing ongoing support for and engaging with local Practice Managers throughout the Jefferson Health Urology Service Line.
Marlene has been instrumental in her new role setting up both our Cherry Hill and Abington offices.
