Neighbourhood Watch

JCI Quatre Bornes and JCI Mauritius met with the Child Protection Unit (CPU) and the Family Protection Unit (FPU) on the 22nd January 2022 to discuss ways the JCI Community can help the Mauritius Police Force in combating Gender Based Violence (GBV). One among the proposed solutions was to incorporate the Neighbourhood Watch project with the GBV project. Hence, JCI Quatre Bornes and JCI Mauritius are collaborating together to address this problem in the society.

Since Neighborhood Watch is existing in some regions and can be implemented everywhere, this can be used as a referral pathway and mechanism for the reporting of domestic violence, child abuse, and GBV cases amongst other problems in the society. We have hence embarked on raising awareness in the community through sensitization programmes from the CPU while implementing neighborhood watch to highlight the importance of denouncing GBV. Our pilot session was first started at La Source, Seeneevassen Ave, Quatre Bornes, where we had the support of the local PPS, Honorable Marie Alexandra Tania Diolle. This initiative was favorably welcomed by the people of the locality.

Additionally, we have more insights for the project GBV in the pipeline. Please keep following us for more updates on our social media page for future projects. I firmly believe that with our new members, we have the capacity to take this project to new heights.
