2021 FACT SHEET About Junior Chamber International: Junior Chamber International (JCI) is a global membership-based non-profit organization of young active citizens ages 18 to 40 who dedicated to creating positive change in their communities.

Through projects in more than 5,000 communities across more than 100 countries, members seek targeted solutions to local problems, creating a global impact.

The JCI movement started on October 13, 1915 by one active citizen, Henry Giessenbier, who had a passion for positive change. Since then, millions of other young active citizens have united together to create sustainable impact in their community.

International Cooperation: JCI is an international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) with active participation in the United Nations (UN) system. In this context, JCI has relations with the Office of the UN Secretary General (Secretariat) and a Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

JCI has cooperation agreements with the UN Global Compact; the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); the UN Foundation; UN SDG Action Campaign; the Pan American Health Organization; the Conference of Non-Governmental Organizations (CONGO); the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC); AIESEC International; KIWANIS & etc.

International Events: Each year, members from all over the globe come together at the JCI World Congress. At this event, JCI's critical mass of young people united to share experiences, understand the interconnectedness of our world and facilitate international cooperation. JCI also hosts four regional conferences each year : Africa and the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, the Americas and Europe. At these conferences, JCI conducts in affairs, hosts training, and gives members the opportunities to address global issues and show their commitment to become socially responsible leaders.

JCI Rise: The JCI RISE (Rebuild, Invest, Sustain, Evolve) initiative is a platform for JCI members to share ideas, best practices and their unique efforts to sustain and rebuild economies around the world. JCI members have always prioritized understanding their communities to create sustainable solutions. When we partner with other organizations and sectors of society, we can reimagine what the future could look like.

RISE will focus on 3 specific points:1. Investing time and resources to sustain and rebuild local economies.

2. Engaging and empowering the workforce through effective leadership and communication.

3. Acknowledging, understanding and creating solutions to the mental health impact COVID-19 has had on the global population.

2021 FACT SHEET About JCI Malaysia: Junior Chamber International Malaysia (JCI Malaysia) is a National Organization of the Junior Chamber International local organizations in Malaysia. JCI Malaysia was chartered in year 1976 and is affiliated to Junior Chamber International (JCI), a global leadership development organization for young active citizens aged 18 to 40, founded since 1916 in St Louis, US by Henry Giessenbier. JCI Malaysia is managed by its National Board of Directors who are all volunteers, serving based on JCI's "One Year to Lead" values.

Membership: There are over 2400 members from 73 local organizations affiliated to JCI Malaysia, from Area North, Central-South, Sabah and Sarawak. JCI membership is open to all nationalities, races and religions.

ABOUT JCI PJ JCI Petaling Jaya (JCI PJ), was initiated in year 1980 by JCI Senator DJ Lourdes (Past President of JCI Bukit Mertajam) and the late JCI Senator Patrick Wong (Past President of JCI Ipoh) and extended under JCI Kuala Lumpur. JCI PJ was officially registered under Registrar of Society on 21 April 1981 and installed its Charter President JCI Senator Felix Gong in September 1981. Currently, JCI PJ is registered under the Registrar of Youth and Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia and is affiliated to JCI Malaysia and Majlis Belia Selangor.

JCI PJ is an award winning local organization that is affiliated to JCI Malaysia, maintaining the 100% Efficiency Award since year 2009 till now. JCI PJ was won numerous awards at JCIM Annual National Convention, JCI ASPAC and JCI World Congress. It was also awarded the Most Outstanding Local Organization in Malaysia 7 years consecutively from year 2009-2015. In 2019, JCI PJ was the first NGO being awarded with Eco Office Certification under Eco Office Initiative Project (EIPO) by NetsECo. JCI PJ is now operating from its new headquarters in Damansara Perdana, where board meetings, training and members gathering are held monthly. JCI PJ is managed by its Boards if Directors, who is elected annually and contributes voluntarily. Members are given leadership opportunities, and practices "1 Year to Lead" concept.

JCI PJ conduct various events annually, including its signature projects such as International Children Drawing Contest (organized in collaboration with JCI Higashi Iruma, Japan) and Dragon Ambassador (organized in collaboration with JCI City, Hong Kong). Both of the project won international awards in 2019 JCI Asia Pacific Conference (ASPAC), Jeju and 2019 JCI World Congress, Estonia (Europe) respectively. JCI PJ also conducted many community projects such as JCI PJ FoodHero (collecting excess breads from bakeries and to channel to orphanage homes), Stand By Me (for fundraising to JCIPJ-UMMC Leukemia and Childhood Cancer Trust Fund) and many others.

JCI PJ is also experienced in organizing JCIM National Awards, having hosted the JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur Awards (JCI CYEA) since 2009-2016 on behalf of JCI Malaysia, and JCIM Sustainable Development Award in 2018. Through these award programs, JCI PJ has built strong relations with various ministries, youth organizations, NGOs and media in Malaysia.

Internationally, JCI PJ has 3 sisterhood pact with JCI Higashi Iruma (Japan), JCI Taoyuan (Taiwan) and JCI City (Hong Kong), as well as 1 brotherhood pact with JCI Tawau (Sabah). JCI PJ is also the Founding Member of Commonwealth Asia Alliance of Young Entrepreneurs (CAAYE - now rebranded to CAYE-Asia). CAYE-Asia is a network of organizations focused on youth entrepreneurship development from 8 countries (Bangladesh, Brunei, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Pakistan) and 1 observer nation (Nepal). It was formed by the mandate given from the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and is now recognized as a best-practice network by the Commonwealth Secretariat. JCI PJ had the honor to co-host the 1st CAAYE Interim Summit in July 2012 at KL and hosted the 4th CAYE-Asia Young Entrepreneur Summit from 30 Oct - 1 Nov 2015 in Putrajaya.

Dear JCI members and friends, Greetings from JCI Malaysia!

First and foremost, my heartiest congratulation to JCI Petaling Jaya for the successful installation and Happy 40th Anniversary. It is a great honor for me to witness this memorable installation ceremonies and celebrate the 40th anniversary together with JCI PJ and all the National Board of Directors, Local Presidents and fellow JCI members. Well done to all the members that put the hard work and effort to make JCI Petaling Jaya another wonderful milestone.

It is truly my honored to have been given the opportunity to serve as the assigned National Vice President for JCI Petaling Jaya. With the 2021 JCI Malaysia theme Enabling Leaders, we believe with leadership skills is the way to drive the local organization forward with the main focus on connecting the D.O.T.S (Development, Opportunities, Transformation and Sustainability). I am very confident that the passionate and dedication of JCI Petaling Jaya will help to achieve the goal with empowering young active citizen and build leaders to create sustainable impact.

Despite the pandemic has limit the physical activity, I’m so glad that JCI Petaling Jaya are working hard to look into an alternative way to organize events online and continue to help the local community to fight against the virus. As the Movement Control Order announced recently, JCI Malaysia Area Central South Convention decided to run the annual event virtually in a very interesting way with interactive workshop and interesting competition. Sincere congratulation to the winners and well done to all delegates that putting effort and commitment to participate in this meaningful virtual convention.

Lastly, I hope everyone are staying safe at your homes during this hour of the pandemic. Please take care, stay positive and looking forward to meet you soon in the next JCI movement.

2nd quarter of 2021 is coming to an end and I am excited to present you JCI Petaling Jaya 2nd Quarter events and activities. Thank you for all your support and participation to make this happen.

One of the main highlight for JCI Petaling Jaya 2nd quarter was our 40th Anniversary cum Installation & Awards Banquet. I am proud to say that JCI Petaling Jaya has successfully organized JCI Petaling Jaya 40th Anniversary cum IAB on the 10th April 2021. I would like to extend my appreciation to our Organizing Chairperson Cai ChengXian and his team to make this a memorable event. Thank you for all the friends and family who attended and witness JCI Petaling Jaya 40th Anniversary IAB. On 7-9th May 2021, 15 delegates from JCIPJ attended JCI Malaysia Area Central South Virtual Convention. There were a series of competition and workshop held during JCIM ACS Virtual Convention and my heartiest congratulation to our Immediate Past President Yee Teck Ji awarded as Supportive Area Officer by Area Chairman, Henry Ng awarded as Active Member and Stanley Phang who won the Champion in Parliamentary Quiz. For those who were not able to join us, we highly encourage you to join the JCI Malaysia National Convention to be held in October 2021.

Apart from this, JCI Petaling Jaya have also organized a series of training, workshop, sharing, games, and projects to engage our members and community. I hope JCI Petaling Jaya members can not only actively participate in all the events but also join us as part of the committee to bring the create positive impact to community.

Lastly, I would like to urge everyone to stay safe during this critical moment and I believe we can make this through together.

Is my honour to hold the position as E-newsletter Editor to conclude JCI Petaling Jaya's 2nd quarter; Despite many of us have being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in the past two years, the impact of the pandemic and its consequences have never stopped JCI Petaling Jaya members to drive the organization forward. We are still strongly bonded even though we are physically distanced.

In the first half of 2021, we have organised solemn event: 40th JCI Petaling Jaya IAB; fruitful seminars: debate and public speaking; connection event: Dragon Ambassador; collaboration webinar

by JCI Dhaka Uptown and JCI Petaling Jaya and many more.. These events has empowered everyone in JCI Petaling Jaya to learn various skills such as communication, negotiation, leadership, teamwork and event management.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude for entrusting me with such tremendous responsibility in the role of this E-newsletter Editor for #Issue 2. Moreover, I would like to express my appreciation to all the members in contributing time and effort for making this Enewsletter a successful and memorable one. We are coming to the 2nd half of the year, and this is another year highly affected by the pandemic, another full lockdown on June announced by the government. But I believe with the strong desire of learning and to serve the community, nothing can stop JCI members from all these, we will continue to improve ourselves with knowledge and contribute to the society, but in a different way. We will become a better and stronger person after the pandemic. As the quote say, Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain. Most importantly, stay safe & stay healthy.

Time flies, 1st half of 2021 has come to an end. I would like to thank Jinvi Ng to take up the role as the E-Newsletter Editor and June Lee as Assistant Editor for this quarter. You both did a great job!

With the recent rise in Covid-19 cases, we urge everyone to do their part to reduce the risk of transmission. Most of our activities have been converted to online and we have adopted into the new norm,.

Nevertheless, congratulations to all JCI Petaling Jaya winners on winning the awards in the first quarter of 2021.

"The greatest achievements of men, were at first, nothing but dreams of the minds of men who knew that dreams are the seedlings of all achievements. A burning desire, to be and to do, is the starting point, from which the dreamer must take off" - Napoleon Hill.

I am feeling grateful and proud to be as JCI Petaling Jaya member. Stay Home, Stay Safe.

JCI Petaling Jaya is an unique organization. In this second home, I feel warm and harmonious. I can explore and discover new personal development skills and business networks here. This platform provides me with many opportunities to meet young outstanding leaders. In addition, I am able to grow, learn and improve my leadership and communication skills through Individual Division. I am willing to do my best to contribute to this community and give back to society. Finally, I would like to say thank you to JCI Petaling Jaya for having me.

We are only in the 2nd quarter of 2021 and have already witnessed successful events organized by JCI Petaling Jaya, especially our 40th Anniversary Installation & Awards Banquet held on 10th April 2021 at New World PJ Hotel which was described by our Past Presidents as the 'best one ever'. I am very impressed with our members' capabilities and dedication in making things happen despite the uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. I'd also like to take this opportunity to wish our Muslim friends Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Maaf Zahir dan Batin.

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. I am truly glad that during this difficult time, JCI Petaling Jaya is still able to carry out community works for the benefit of the society. I would like to take this opportunity to urge everyone to stay safe and stay “negative”. We have battled the novelty disease for more than a year now and now is not the time to quit or give up. Whether you are affected by Covid-19 or not in any way possible, hang tight, help is on its way. Ultimately, the greatest lesson that Covid-19 can teach humanity is that we are all in this together. Remember, when one door closes, another always opens.

I feel very blessed that we achieving so many milestones together and growing our organization to what it has become today! We know everyone have worked very hard and I truly admire with the dedication.

I look forward to having more creative, out-of-the-box thinking, resourcefulness and willingness to always help others especially during this tough period. Actions speak louder than words, I believe that taking action and responsibility in JCI Petaling Jaya is much more important, because how you do anything is how you do everything.

I would like to express my gratitude to JCI Petaling Jaya for the great opportunity given to serve the chapter and members. It has been a half year journey that I served as Vice President International, I am blessed to have the opportunity to meet people from different chapters, states and countries through events and training. It is my pleasure to connect with our brotherhood chapter, JCI Tawau, sisterhood chapter JCI City Hong Kong, JCI Taoyuan Taiwan and JCI Higashi Iruma Japan. PROJECT SKILL DEVELOPMENT As part of the JCI RISE initiative, JCI Petaling Jaya has collaborated with JCI Dhaka Uptown to jointly organize an International Skills Development Webinar that was held on 10th May 2021. The event had a considerable number of online participants from Bangladesh and Malaysia. We interacted with guest speakers from both nations on the topic of Business Recovery, Workforce Empowerment, Mental Health Awareness and Supporting Local Entrepreneurs. Special thanks to our OC Jinvi Ng and Malaysian guest speakers, Anders Lindstrom of LL Consult and Dr. Ivan Lee of KK Women's and Children's Hospital for their time & sharing.

R.I.S.E (Rebuild. Invest. Sustain. Evolve) is JCI's reaction to the Covid-19 pandemic from an economic perspective. This webinar is related to JCI RISE’s three pillars inspiring young people to develop projects related to sustain and rebuild economies by supporting small, local businesses, motivate the workforce through youth entrepreneurship and preserve mental health and well-being.

10X PITCH DECK In the Business Area of Opportunities, members can exchange business ideas and collaborate with interested members all around the world.

JCI Petaling Jaya organized an event for its members and the public to participate in the first-ever investment pitch competition (10x Pitch Deck : JCI PJ's Entrepreneurship Games) which was held via Zoom on 28th May 2021, from 8:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. This event tested the members' persuasion skills as they convinced our invited judges to invest in their hypothetical start-up company. Their investment pitch addressed the Target Market, Pain Point and based on the Solution cards drawn.

The winners of the event was awarded with invaluable online courses by our sponsors covering the area of ERP, First Aid, Social Entrepreneurship, Virtual Events and Business Plan.

IT HERO Community Area of Opportunities gives the member a chance to work with the community. The members conducted needs analysis for the community and initiate projects to cater to those needs.

Junior International Chambers Petaling Jaya (JCI PJ) collaborated with willing sponsor, Smart Rental (smartrental.my) to donate 5 units of working computers to a native school in Petaling Jaya Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Lanjan (SK BK. Lanjan). Briefly, SK BK. Lanjan is a primary school established in 1950 and to date they have approximately 172 students, which consists of 85% native students from the Temuan tribe, a Proto-Malay ethnic group indigenous to western parts of Peninsular Malaysia.

COVID TERMINATOR VP Stanley Phang, EVP Henry Ng, OC Bi Jun & VP Chloe Khaw kick started a community long-run project "Covid Terminator” on 6th February 2021.

This meaningful project is a collaboration project between JCI Petaling Jaya and ASEC-Academy of Safety and Emergency Care to volunteer in providing sanitizing service for the need homes.

Covid cases have soared to an unthinkable number these days. In collaboration with ASEC (Academy of Safety and Emergency Care), We’ve successfully conducted 5 sessions of Covid Terminator in last quarter at few different places like Pertubuhan Kebajikan Orang Tua Cacat dan Kurang Upaya, Praise Emmanuel Children's Home, Pertubuhan Kebajikan AnakAnak Yatim dan OKU Mesra, PPR Pantai Ria, and Rumah Charis Shah Alam.
