A New Journey Awaits...

I particularly liked the theme for the 2022 Area North Convention hosted by JCI Kinta just past April. The switch back to the physical world presents many opportunities and journey to be discovered. Just like the theme "A New Journey Awaits" there are many in stores for all our members.

It goes without saying that the second quarter have been busy for many of us.

I've had the pleasure of meeting all of our leaders in the many events we have during the first six months. It is wonderful to converse with you and hear what a good job you have been doing on the ground and I am honored to be invited to be part of your success.

All our office bearers are at the halfway point of our term and it could feel like we are running out of time in achieving what we have planned early of the year. But I would like to encourage all of you to keep up the same momentum and dedication throughout the year and I look forward to seeing what all of us will achieve at the end of the year!

Time flies and now we are in the second quarter of the 2022!

It is a fruitful second quarter of 2022 with many events held by the Area and Local Organizations. We can start to see many old and new faces joining our events physically.

Despite the endemic, but we still take precautions timely.

Intro to Area North As JCI Malaysia Area Peninsular achieves rising growth in terms of membership and chapters, the area was split into JCI Malaysia Peninsular North and JCI Malaysia Area Peninsular Central South in 2012.

In 2019, the word "Peninsular" was dropped and henceforth the area is known as JCI Malaysia Area North.

Update on Local Organization Extension At Area North 10 - 11 June, Kota Bahru- "A journey of a thousands miles, begins with a single step." Our goal of establishing a Local Organization in the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia is inching towards realization. An official visit to Kelab Belia Kota Bharu, Kelantan by NEVP Wei Jian and Area Director Him Tean to assess the viability of JCI presence taking root at Kota Bharu.

Multiple sessions were held during the visit, notably there were sharing by 2010 National President JCI Senator Dennis Tan and 2019 Area North Chairperson JCI Senator Catherine Chang; a visit to the famous Kelantan Match Factory was also held.

During the visit, it is observed that there are a group of young and energetic active citizens who are willing to uphold the JCI Creed "Service to humanity is the best work of life" to improve their community and to establish a JCI Local Organization at Kota Bahru to attract more young people who have share their dreams of improving themselves and their community. Let's give our friends at Kota Bharu our best support to ensure their affiliation!

I Love You 3000 2.0 JCI Bukit Mertajam , JCI Butterworth City, JCI Georgetown , JCI Kulim , JCI Nibong Tebal , JCI Pearl & JCI Perai Through " I Love You 3000 2.0 " project, the team succesfully distributed 3,355 packs of food to the vulnerable groups which located in Penang Island and Seberang Jaya Areas which include 37 old folks homes,, orphanages, welfare centres and The Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) and etc.

This event was firstly organized by JCI Bukit Mertajam since 2021, and continue to organize this program together with JCI Butterworth City, JCI Georgetown, JCI Kulim, JCI Nibong Tebal , JCI Pearl and JCI Perai in 2022. This project was led by the Organizing Chairperson, Kar Tien and her team.

The preparation was done and supported by Mamavege.

The team took 3 weeks to plan the whole project inclusive of contacting, planning, preparing food, labelling, distributing and etc but they feel gratified after completed such impactful project. " I hope that there is more impactful projects that we can leverage together in future, not only for JCI, but also for the society - Kar Tien

Wealth Summit 2022 JCI Entrepreneur Metropolitan Lets start our interview the event OC - George Poh from JCI E-metro :1. What inspires you to organize this project?

To provide better financial education that are not widely available to the youngsters with the aim to improve the financial literacy rate among the Youth.

2. How did the project develop enterprising young leaders for this changing world?

Through the project, it allows the organizing team to take the lead and connect with various stakeholders such as speakers, sponsors and partners. Not only that, we also able to develop young leaders from the university societies/clubs/associations to be part of the project.

3. What are the corporate sponsors or government officials that collaborate in this Summit?

We are so glad to be able to connect with Luno Malaysia (Licensed Crypto Exchange Platform in M'sia), YGT (Healthy Beauty Product) & Iris Homebake (Online Bakery) 4. Describe how your project helped raise awareness about the JCI brand?

Firstly, we able to showcase the brand of JCI as the project owner and through the discussions with stakeholders also we show the dedication of JCI to bring value to the Youth and lead by Youth. Not only that, through the project, we showcase the 4 pillars of JCI and the objective of having the Wealth Summit 2022.

5. What is the difficulty to face for sustain the project?

We hope to engage with more universities, financial speakers, and private sectors to engage with more financial education related initiatives.

Meet the C.E.O. JCI Tanjung Bunga Kudos for Organizing Chairperson - Nicholas Ng which has been successfully connect 6 Local Organization (JCI Bayan, JCI Bukit Mertajam, JCI Butterworth City, JCI Elite, JCI Kulim and JCI Perai) to Co-Host this event which is in purpose to create impact to young entrepreneur.

This event supported by JCIM Area North and successfully attract around 25 Young Active Citizen Members to attend the Corporate Visit.

It create great bonding among the Local Organization and also have a great opportunity to enhance the participant Business Networking while having lunch session with the CEO. We are really pleasure to have Founder of Danai Wellness Spa - Mr Dennis, and Executive Director of Ghee Hiang, Mr Ch’ng to share their valuable experience how a company grow from tiny to a group of companies. This experience is priceless and we are grateful and inspire by the CEO.

A New Journey Awaits 15 - 17 Apr, Ipoh- The JCI Malaysia Area North Convention is held annually for members within the area to meet, discuss and learn. The main highlight includes the Area President Summit, Area General Assembly, Awards Ceremony and various trainings, workshop, and forum sessions. This year, JCI Malaysia Area North recorded a total attendance of about 230 delegates from all over Malaysia.

The Area Convention serves as an important platform for the organization to review and share the projects conducted by respective Local Organizations and to fine-tune the strategy execution for the remaining of the year. The convention serves as a great entry point for an individual to get a feel of what JCI is all about.

This year the convention was hosted by JCI Kinta led by the Convention Director Jerome Fong. It is their first debut in hosting the Area North Convention.

The Opening Ceremony was graced by JCI President Argenis Angulo from JCI Venezuela, National President Ellen Lu and many other dignitaries. The highlight of the Opening Ceremony is the welcoming of more young leaders into the JCI family; for the first time during a convention, 50 new members were inducted by JCI President Argenis and witnessed by the National President.

The Closing Ceremony of the Convention is graced by the Perak Youth Council President Encik Muhammad Puhaz Saleh and National President representative National General Legal Counsel Wilson Gan. JCI Malaysia Area North would like to express our greatest gratitude to all guests who came from afar and from the whole of Malaysia. Special thanks to our Guest of Honour Argenis Angulo, the President of JCI, Muhammad Puhaz Saleh, the President of Majlis Belia Negeri Perak, 2022 JCI Malaysia National President JCI Senator Ellen Lu, National General Legal Council cum National President Representative JCI Senator Wilson Gan, National Executive Vice President cum Area Chairperson, Tan Wei Jian, Convention Director, Jerome Fong, Hosting Local Organization JCI Kinta President, Jasper Ngai, Immediate Past Area Chair cum National Deputy President, Matt Ngai, Area Secretary cum-Ex officer, Leo Tay for gracing the convention.

Area Happenings JCI President - Argenis Angulo in Area North Convention 16 Apr, Ipoh - It is our pleasure to have 2022 JCI President Argenis Angulo in our Area North Convention. To highlight, the president is our Guest of Honour for our Opening Ceremony there is an interview session with the President by our Area Director Rayane Mok.

Q1) Would you like to share with us your journey to become World President?

To be a World President, is somewhat really a far journey. The main challenge of that is you have to gain people’s trust. I can recall so many people tell me that “You can do that”, and when I receive that kind of message, the first thing that came in my mind is “He’s crazy. She’s crazy. You’re crazy. Why are they motivating me when I know that I cannot do that? But one day, I started to listen to those motivation and started wondering… “Maybe it is possible?” And now, you see me here as your President. It is completely challenging, but luckily enough I have a dedicated team with me. They ensured my success. They motivated me to be who I am today. If I can, you can! It is completely possible to achieve it.

Q2) What makes you come out with “The Duty Hour Show” initiative?

I noticed that there’s a gap in the international level and the local level. I have the duty to close this gap and create bridges to connect with everybody, not only to inform but also show them what we are doing. We would like to connect more with our members through the initiative and social media. It is my duty to report what I am doing, what are the Board of Directors doing, besides promoting JCI.

Area Happenings JCI President - Argenis Angulo in Area North Convention Q3) Being a World President, your schedule is full and packed, how do you cope with your personal career and relationship?

To be honest, I am only focusing on JCI this year. I worked a lot previously, to make sure when this moment arrives, it arrives the way I want it to be. I will make sure the preparation is done well. I won’t deny that the support I received from my boss, my employees, my family, and friends also help me to achieve what I am today. I always find balance and I believe that the first experience of leadership is with myself. I have to lead myself, and then lead other people. By leading myself, I lead my thoughts, my feelings, my action to be well disciplined, to find balance in everything. Of course, it is hard to achieve the balance, but you have to work hard for it. I will share my moments in JCI to my family member and include them in my agenda. I will try my best to take care of them and myself.

Q4) With the Presidential Theme “Leading is Our Duty”, what can the members do in coming 3- 5 years to make the most out of it?

Well, we are currently working on a proposal to be presented to worldwide leaders. We are currently working on the proposal of Human Duty as we all have the responsibility to carry out our duties as a human. I hope that every member is attentive and supportive towards this proposal as leading is our duty. We lead to create a better world. We lead to create a better community. We lead to carry out our duty.

Area Happenings 2022 JCI Asia Pacific Conference

26-29 May, Kuala Lumpur- A total of 56 members of Area North took part in the 2022 edition of the JCI Asia Pacific Conference (JCI ASPAC) hosted by JCI Japan. Unfortunately, due to health regulations, our delegation are bound at home again attending the conference virtually.

This year however, JCI Malaysia set up a hybrid station at Kuala Lumpur and a majority of our delegation attended the conference with delegates from all over Malaysia at the hybrid station. We are also honored to have JCI Vice President Zolbadral Batmunkh joining the JCI Malaysia delegation at the hybrid station.

2022 is a major year for JCI Malaysia Area North as all of the representative for the Public Speaking & Debate Championship are from JCI Kulim, a Northern Local Organization and one of our entry for JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur from JCI Butterworth City are in the the final rounds. Although not able to win at the end, the experience obtain are definitely a stepping stone for future success for all of them, well done!

Gerak Belia 2.0 In 2022, JCI Malaysia Area North took the initiative to generate good bond with local authorities and state youth council. We paid courtesy visits to few of the government and youth agencies in the northern states, including Kedah, Perak and Penang.

By establishing a good relationship with the local authorities, government and youth agencies, we hope to generate a bilateral cooperation between JCI Malaysia Area North and the agencies besides polishing leadership skills, enhance competency and discovering talents among the youth.
