ABOUT JCI The Junior Chamber movement was officially started in 1915 by Henry Giessenbier Jr. in Missouri, USA. The JC movement aims to study civic and business problems. The movement took up momentum to spread around the world and by 1954, it was introduced to Malaysia.

JCI Bandar Klang was founded in 2016 by Charter President, Timothy Chu.

THIS SPECIAL EDITION is close to the hearts of everyone from JCI BANDAR KLANG. It is a project that means a lot to people of Klang as gangsterism is not uncommon here. Many members have personally been a victim at some point.

Therefore, much effort has been put out by our team. We hope that one day, bullying will cease to exist.

I am proud that this year's committee has taken it to greater height and level.

From just 1 school in 2017, we have gone 10 times bigger.

We've collaborated with 2 other NGOs and involved many other parties to create a bigger impact.

Bullying cases in Klang schools has the spotlight it needed to make sustainable change.

ORGANIZING CHAIRPERSON'S MESSAGE Let me start by thanking the BOD for allowing me to organize this event. It has been an honor to collaborate with Persatuan Keturunan Wu Pantai Klang and GBBM Bukit Tinggi . I am also deeply humbled by my committee's commitment for excellence at every event and sacrificing their personal time.

Lastly, I want to thank my family and husband for embracing my desire to contribute to the society.

WHAT CAN WE DO ?

OBJECTIVE SHORT-TERM GOALS: 1. EDUCATE youth on peace practices.

2. EQUIP students with like skills to handle conflicts peacefully.

3. PROMOTE AWARENESS on violence against children, harmful impact of school violence and bullying and benefits of violencefree schools.

4. ESTABLISH a safe and peaceful learning environment through fostering of anti-bullying program and support system in school.

5. DEVELOP partnerships&BUILD capability between schools and authorities to combat bullying and violence.

6. FORMULATE SOPs to report school violence and bullying to provide fast and sustainable support and services to victims.

LONG TERM GOALS: 1. For JCI Bandar Klang to be the preferred ORGANIZATION, creating preventive measure, building support and harmony within local community.

2. To see a VISIBLE REDUCTION in bullying and school violence.

3. REDUCE social and mental illness, suicide rates, self-harm, drug and alcohol abuse.

4. To create awareness of JCI values for youths in future development opportunities.

We empower school administrators to take proactive steps in establishing a positive climate which will support students to stop prejudice, discrimination and hatred by becoming Buddy instead of Bully.

We spread the message of peace CREATIVELY, VIA AGEAPPROPRIATE METHODS i.e. the PEACE coloring contest for primary school students and video contest for secondary schools to all students in Malaysia.

This project involved 10,000 students from Klang and 300 school administrators to pledge to stop bullying in schools.

It has inspired parents, volunteers and members of the public to join the campaign shows their enthusiasm to spread awareness on the effects of school violence

Many thanks to Mrs. Noreha as Principal of SMK Batu Unjur who has allowed me to convey the message of 'Buddy Not Bully' Bullying is a serious matter. It should never be brushed off as something that children have to tough out.

Bullying can affect a child's sense of self worth. In severe cases, bullying has contributed to tragedies, and some cases even attempted suicides.

BUDDY NOT BULLY VIDEO CONTEST 2018 is by JCI Bandar Klang and co-organized by Klang Pantai Youth Association (Youth), GBBM Bukit Tinggi and Impress Academy.

The objective of this campaign is to raise public awareness about escalating bullying issue and subsequently help to prevent it from our community in order to create a better community that advocates kindness and harmony.

2017

Violence is not confined to the walls of schools. It can happen enroute to schools, public spaces or online. The project extends the presence of peace through multiple levels and effects are targeted to reach wider audience to inspire more members of the community to support our cause.

School level – The program reinforced 10,000 students’ pledges to adopt non-violent strategies, embrace diversity, develop tolerance and treat others with respect and kindness.

Community level – Partnerships between multiple neighbourhood, schools and community partners helped to identify ways and indicators of bullying and violence, thus the right party will be able to take fast actions to mediate the situations peacefully.

Educators, administrators, students, parents and the community worked together holistically to create a safer school climates that encourage and support academic and emotional growth.

Press – JCI BANDAR KLANG utilised multiple press release to reachout and motivate community and public to participate actively by publicizing the campaign and promote our video contest with renowned International Director, Jess Tiong (contest judge).

Online – We spread the message of peace through social media, radio interview (Ai FM) and short videos featuring impactful personalities eg. JCI Malaysia PNP, Dennis Tan and public figure, Lavin Seow.
