Junior Chamber Kuching was first known as Sarawak Junior Chamber of Commerce, which was registered on 19th July 1956. The President was Mr. Sim Kheng Lung (later JCI Senator Datuk). In line with the development of the Jaycees movement, the Sarawak Junior Chamber of Commerce went through a few stages of changing its name. In 1970, the name was changed to Kuching Junior Chamber. In 1972, it was changed to Kuching Jaycees, and in 1995, it was renamed Junior Chamber Kuching.

Dear Readers,
I am Beatrice Ting, your 2024 JCI Kuching Commission Director. It is with great honour to be the Editor-in Chief for Quarter 2 JCI Kuching e-newsletter. Our quarterly Enewsletter offers a quick preview to the essence of JCI Kuching, a platform to grow, bond together as youths in society. It also wraps up the activities hosted, co-hosted and our bonding session. We are more than delighted to share a slice of JCI Kuching memories with you through this E-newsletter and many more to come.

We are honored to have Alan Chai, director of LEAVES Food Industries Sdn Bhd as the speaker for Change for Chance, and 2024 JCI Malaysia Immediate Past Area Chair Micheal Chai as the speaker for Empowerments through JCI. After the sharing, there was award ceremony to recognise for the efforts and hard work of the Members and Board of Directors that they have performed in Quarter 1. Following by Business Networking where every participants get to present their business & target market to others.

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Kuching chapter emerged as a top contender at the recent JCI Malaysia Area Sarawak Convention 2024 on 24th to 26th May, Miri. Our chapter won the English Debate Competition championship with the team comprising of Lunnie Gan, Albert Loi and Ann Marie. JCI Kuching oratory star, Lunnie Gan also swept secured the title of Best Debater. JCI Kuching continued its winning streak in the English Public Speaking Competition. Lunnie Gan delivered a powerful performance, securing the top honor Albert Loi and Argus Chan also brought home accolades as 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up, respectively.

The 2024 JCI Asia Pacific Conference (ASPAC) was an electrifying event held in Siem Reap, Cambodia this year, brimming with exciting activities, prestigious award recognitions, and a powerful sense of camaraderie. JCIs from across Asia came together to rejuvenate the youth spirit and forge ahead towards a brighter future. This conference featured number of program such as Conference Asembly, Business Matching, Public speaking competition, trainings, national nights and many more. Our Vice President Mark Teo & Past President Young Ming leading JCI Kuching to participate in this year JCI ASPAC and engage with few JCI chapter in other countries for potential collaboration.

Sustainable Development Award (SDA) Press Conference was successfully hosted by JCI Kuching, on April 13th, 2024, at Vivacity Megamall’s East Atrium. The Press conference gathered nearly 50 attendees from various industry, Businessmen, NGOs and public.
The JCI Malaysia Sustainable Development Award (SDA), a project by JCI Malaysia, hosted by JCI Klang, aims to recognize companies, organisations, and government agencies in Malaysia with initiatives and projects aligned with achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
This press conference serves to introduce the Sustainable Development Award and its nomination guidelines, with the goal of raising awareness about the award within the Sarawak community It is our hope that this initiative will encourage esteemed entities to nominate themselves and inspire greater community engagement in Sustainable Development Goals for a better world.

JCI Kuching hosted Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Day 2024 was held at Vivacity Megamall’s East Atrium Our aim is not only to the raise awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals but also inspire action and foster collaborations that will drive meaningful.
Among these workshops were ‘Say No to Single Use Plastic’ by 2024 JCI Malaysia SDG Commission chairperson Bivi Ling; ‘Towards Sustainable Waste Management’ by Trienekens; and ‘Not So Fantastic’ by Naked Wonders. There was also a crafts workshop for kids during the day to inspire them to appreciate the Earth by creating Earth-themed shrink keychains and air clay crafts.

JCI Members had the opportunity to learn about the journey of Leaves Sdn Bhd from their humble beginnings to where it is today, a brand well-known amongst Sarawakians Over the past two decades, Leaves Food Industries Sdn Bhd has curated new products, new processes, proven R&D capabilities and creative use of digital marketing channels catalysed growth in sales and strengthened the Leaves brand.

SME Biz Expansion is an business seminar hosted by JCI Seremban, our brotherhood chapter, co-hosted by JCI Kuching and JCI Petaling Jaya. The objective of this event is for members to learn how they can grow their business through Banks and/or the Government. JCI Members were exposed to different schemes such as Digital Marketing Training Scheme worth RM20,00000 and Onboarding Scheme worth RM5,00000 as a part of the Government’s initiative to boost SMEs via eTrade Programme 2.0. It was an interactive seminar as the esteemed speaker, Eric Lim of Jom Earn Global Sdn Bhd engaged and involved the audience through fun activities and Q&A sessions throughout his presentations.

The event was strategically designed to cater for SPM graduates, providing them with valuable insights into resources, support and facilities in Sarawak such as Centrex (Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak), Sarawak Skills, Politeknik Malaysia, Kolej Community Kuching.

Attendees gained valuable insights on the cancer and innovation treatment available for cancer.

Hi everyone Doris here, and I recently started a Social Media Marketing Agency. I joined JCI Kuching in 2020, initially as part of the youth wing, and served as the JCI Youth Sunway President in 2021. Upon graduating from my Diploma, I joined my mother chapter which is JCI Kuching. My time with JCI has been incredibly enriching; I have gained lifelong friendships and numerous opportunities that have broadened my horizons.
