To be the leading global network of young active citizens
Junior Chamber International, or known as JCI, is a non-profit international nongovernmental organization for young people aged 18 to 40. Our objective is to gather globally-minded young active citizens from all sectors of society to develop skills, knowledge, and understanding to make informed decisions and take wise action. There are more than 200,000 JCI members in over 124 countries worldwide.
Junior Chamber Kuching was first known as Sarawak Junior Chamber of Commerce, which was registered on 19th July 1956. The President was Mr. Sim Kheng Lung (later JCI Senator Datuk). In line with the development of the Jaycees movement, the Sarawak Junior Chamber of Commerce went through a few stages of changing its name. In 1970, the name was changed to Kuching Junior Chamber. In 1972, it was changed to Kuching Jaycees, and in 1995, it was renamed Junior Chamber Kuching.
In these 68 years, many members had served as JCI and JCM officers. In 1963, JCI Senator Spencer C G Ong was elected to the JCI World Board of Directors as JCI Commission Director for Education and Youth Activities.
JCI Senator Alex Ting Kuang Kuo was elected as JCM National President in 1980.
JCI Senator Dr. YY Lee and JCI senators Paul Kong served as the chairman of the Jaycees Malaysia Senate Association from 1993 to 1995 and from 2001 to 2003, respectively.
JCI Senator Poh Ted Ang and JCI Senator Poh Teck Lim served s JCI Asia Pacific Development Council's Development Officer in 1997 and 2000, respectively.
JCI Kuching also hosted 4 JCI Malaysia National Conventions (formerly JCM Annual National Convention) with JCI Senator David Wong Siew Chow as the Convention Director in 1983 and 1986, JCI Senator Tan Chee Kian as Convention Director in 1998, and JCI Member Emily Shanny Bong as Convention Director in 2022.

Time flies, and we are already at the end of the third quarter of 2023. In JCI Malaysia’s annual calendar, the third quarter is when all the National Awards and Projects are conducted. This year, we have seen the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Malaysian (TOYM) and JCI Malaysia Sustainable Development Awards (SDA) held in the state of Johor, while the JCIMalaysiaCreativeYoungEntrepreneurAward(CYEA)heldinthestateofPenang.
At the local level, this is the quarter where the local organizations are expected to consolidate all their gains this year while laying the foundation for next year. Most of the local organizations would have already conducted their flagship projects by now. It is also the time where the local organizations should focus on preparing their membership declaration for 2024 while ensuring the declaration tallies with the registered numbers in the JCIM Roadmap. Most importantly, it is also the time where the local organizations plan fortheirparticipationattheupcoming2023JCIMalaysiaNationalConvention.
It is on this note that I wish to congratulate JCI Kuching on all that you have achieved in the third quarter. I end my remark by bidding you all the best and I look forward to seeing all of youinMelakaduringourNationalConvention.
