Junior Chamber Kuching was first known as Sarawak Junior Chamber of Commerce, which was registered on 19th July 1956. The President was Mr. Sim Kheng Lung (later JCI Senator Datuk). In line with the development of the Jaycees movement, the Sarawak Junior Chamber of Commerce went through a few stages of changing its name. In 1970, the name was changed to Kuching Junior Chamber. In 1972, it was changed to Kuching Jaycees, and in 1995, it was renamed Junior Chamber Kuching.

Dear Readers,
I am Beatrice Ting, your 2024 JCI Kuching Commission Director. It is with great honour to be the Editor-in Chief for Quarter 1 JCI Kuching e-newsletter. Our quarterly Enewsletter offers a quick preview to the essence of JCI Kuching, a platform to grow, bond together as youths in society. It also wraps up the activities hosted, co-hosted and our bonding session. We are more than delighted to share a slice of JCI Kuching memories with you through this E-newsletter and many more to come.
Special thanks to my our President Jervis Jong, Local Secretary Doris Hiu, Bing Heng and my dear Publication team for their endless support and encouragement in making this E-Newsletter a success. It is with great pleasure to be able to contribute with them to JCI Kuching, by their side.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear JCI members and friends,
It is my great honour to serves as your President of JCI Kuching this year. I really appreciate for all of your support towards my presidency year. As we step into the end of first quarter this year, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on our achievements and share some exciting updates with you all through this Q1 e-newsletter.
First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for your dedication and commitment to our chapter. Despite the challenges we've faced, your passion for creating positive change in our community has continued to shine through.
In the past few months, we have been equipped with a lot of knowledge and skills especially Board of Directors where we attended Leadership Summit and Area Academy to serve you better. We also focusing on creating events that benefits for our members as well as the community around us, such as Introduction to e-invoicing, corporate visit to Saranest and etc. Support from local government, press media and local company are very important for JCI Kuching, hence I lead Board of Directors and members to pay a visit to all government agencies and press media to present my Plan of Action of the year to seek for their support.
Looking ahead, we have some exciting projects in the pipeline that I believe will further solidify our presence as a force for good in Kuching. But none of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our members. Your enthusiasm and willingness to contribute are what drive our chapter forward, and for that, I am truly grateful.
I encourage each of you to continue to actively participate in our upcoming events and projects. Together, we can make an even greater impact and inspire positive change in our community.

Leadership Summit is one of the major yearly event by JCI Malaysia with one objective which is to welcome and gather all the newly elected leaders across Malaysia. On the 6 and 7 January 2024, JCI Kuching participated in this event, represented by the Local President Jervis Jong and also Local Secretary Doris Hiu.

Shortly after the Leadership Summit, Area Sarawak Academy was hosted to offer a yearly refresher course on JCI protocols and administration, to align Local Chapters to the mission and vision of JCI as a whole.
Most of our Board of Directors from JCI Kuching attended. Overall, the academy is fruitful and bridges any knowledge gap in local chapters - Kudos to the Area officers who have worked hard in making this event a huge success.
Our JCI Kuching Members had a great time and we hope to join JCIM Area Sarawak in 2025 again!

Kicking start off 2024 with our joint Board of Directors (BOD) meeting between 2023 BOD and 2024 BOD to ensure handing over and a smooth transition into the new yea
BOD meetings are held every month with the aim to pass any motion and endorsement to upcoming JCI events as well as discussion any matters relating to JCI Kuching
Up until present, JCI Kuching has successfully conducted four BOD Meetings over the first quarter. BOD meetings are open to JCI members. to join and observe. Join us next time!

Introduction of LHDN E-Invoice System in Malaysia
hosted by JCI Kuching with Speaker, Philip Lim Su Sing was organised to raise awareness and understand the mechanism as well as its impact and benefits of digitalising of the submission of invoices for accounting purposes. A very successful event indeed with around thirty attendees present on the day, all whom were from different industries keen in keep up to date with Malaysia’s plan to grow the digital economy

JCI Kuching made a courtesy visit to YB Data Gerald Rentap Jabu, Deputy Minister Youth Sports & Entrepreneur Development Sarawak at his office at Bangunan Baitulmakmur where both parties had fruitful sharings. JCI Kuching’s President Jervis Jong shared on 2024 JCI Kuching Plan of Action and YB Dato Gerald Rentap shared on Sarawak Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 & SUKMA Ke-21 that will be hosted by Sarawak this year

This oratory event organised by our JCI Kuching Member, Louis Ling combines debating and public speaking together giving our members a full flavour and thrill of expressing ourselves to the fullest and learn the art of speaking.
Public speaking session in the morning was led by Kuching Toastmaster Club (KTMC), Pei Chai and Chester Bong which our members enjoyed thoroughly and had gotten the chance to unleash their oratory skills. Special thanks to Pei Chai and Chester for imparting to us invaluable guidance on public speaking

In the Debating session led by our trainers Lunnie and Lucas, the participants were briefed on the tips and tricks, rules of debating and later on given the chance to practice on the debate.
The taster motion was “Whilst in a relationship, you and your partner is not allowed to have opposite gender friends as your close friends”.
Special thanks and kudos to our trainer Lunnie Gan and Lucas for leading this wonderful workshop and sharing their knowledge and tips on debating.
