Message from the JCC Chief Executive Officer & President

Dear Friends,

Tonight, we gather to honor Andy Kaye and Floyd Gloskin and to celebrate 25 incredible years of youth and adult sports at JCC Rockland. From the very beginning, many people came together to help build this program — including both of us, who started as parents and coaches, eager to get involved with our children.

It was a special experience to be with our kids and their friends, teaching them the fundamentals of sports. We soon realized it was about so much more than just sports. It was about building teamwork, fostering friendships, and in some cases, helping the less skilled players improve, so they could experience those unforgettable moments — whether it was making a basket, completing a great pass, or receiving cheers from teammates. Watching the kids celebrate each other’s successes was truly inspiring.

It was also an opportunity for parents to connect and form relationships. We quickly came to see that we weren’t just building sports programs — we were building community. For many of us, what started as a way to coach our children evolved into leadership roles within the JCC. This involvement has become critical, because it’s through our collective leadership and service that the JCC can truly make a difference in our community.

Andy and Floyd’s involvement goes back more than 20 years, also beginning as parents and coaches. They could have easily “retired” after coaching their own children, but both believed deeply in the importance of sports in building community. Rather than stepping back, they chose to keep giving back. And tonight, after more than two decades, they are still leading our JCC basketball programs — day in and day out.

When we say “involved,” we mean involved. Andy and Floyd have each dedicated thousands of hours to the JCC, ensuring that our programs not only continue but thrive. Their hard work and passion have made a lasting impact on the lives of so many. On behalf of the JCC board and our entire community, we extend our deepest thanks to Andy and Floyd for their tireless efforts. They truly embody the spirit of “giving back” and making a difference.

We would also like to express our gratitude to all of you who have come out tonight to celebrate with us and to those who have supported our journal. Your involvement helps make the JCC a place where we can all come together to learn, grow, make lasting connections and build stronger futures.

Andy Kaye

Andy Kaye has been a supporter of the JCC for 25 years watching it grow from a small building on Route 45 to the incredible Jewish Community in West Nyack.

He started with the JCC when his oldest daughter was playing Soccer & Basketball in Kindergarten. Eventually Andy became commissioner of the basketball program and still continues in that role.

Andy also coached girls softball in the JCC Maccabi games and the team won the gold medal when the games were held in Rockland.

Andy grew up in Rockland and came back to raise his family in New City along with his wife Fran and daughters Jordyn and Sydney.

He has always believed in the quote by Winston Churchill: “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.”

OUR HONOREES

Floyd Gloskin

Floyd Gloskin, a longtime supporter of JCC Rockland Youth & Adult Sports is being honored this year for his commitment and dedication to an organization in which he truly believes. Floyd first became involved with the JCC when his eldest child was three years old and started attending the mini sports programs. By the time that he had started kindergarten, Floyd was involved, too, coaching sports. Since those early days, he has organized the annual soccer game against Israeli teens from Hod Hasharon, he has assisted in running winter, spring and summer basketball programs within the JCC leagues and has run the Mini Maccabi Day soccer tournament.

Over the years, his three sons have continued their involvement with the JCC, having subsequently participated in the sports programs, the Teen Leadership Initiative, summer camps and the JCC Maccabi Games. The family has also hosted Israeli teens from Hod Hasharon, thoroughly enjoying the cross-cultural connection.

Floyd has a Bachelor of Arts from the City University of New York, Herbert H. Lehman College. He is an IT DPE with Kyndryl and has been a proud donor to the JCC’s Wall of Giving for 20 years.

He has lived in New City for 25 years with his wife, Ellen, and their sons Adam, Zachary and Scott.

What is the Wall of Giving?

The Wall of Giving provides a distinctive recognition that celebrates our donors, our champions, who help meet the ever-changing needs of the community and help support our mission of enrichment and continuity of Jewish Life. Our donors are members, friends of the J and local businesses who take great pride knowing that they played a part impacting the lives of others. Your name will be displayed prominently on the Wall of Giving located in the Lynn & Shelly Goldstein Family Lobby and also on our website and special event program journals. Even more –we show our appreciation to our donors with an annual complimentary dinner and reception.

Why should you give?

Our community relies on JCC Rockland for life-changing programming and lifelong connections. This is truly a community-wide effort! Every gift matters and is essential to help our non-profit enhance the lives of all ages and stages to live their best lives.

Not only are we celebrating 25 amazing years of Youth & Adult Sports at The JCC, but we’re also giving a standing ovation (with lots of tail wags) to the true MVP: Floyd Gloskin!

Floyd’s top-notch volunteer game has been the heart of The JCC Sports Programs. From coaching champions to building legacies that last, he’s inspired athletes of all ages and brought the community together like no other. Honestly, he might as well get his own jersey retired— he’s that legendary! Floyd, you’re not just a legend— you’re our legend!

And let’s not forget, Floyd isn’t just amazing at sports! He’s also a pro dog dad to Ranger, who we love having as part of our Doggie Shrink family. Seriously, Ranger might be almost as lucky as we are to have you!
