Ari Rosenblum

Ari Rosenblum is the Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Federation and Foundation of Rockland County. A native of Toronto, Canada, Ari has served in executive and leadership positions at major not for profit organizations in Toronto, Ottawa and New York. At the University of Toronto, he began a lifelong passion for activism, rising to the national executive of the North American Jewish Students Network. After more than seven years in investment management, research and corporate finance, Ari moved into the Jewish non-profit world, working since 2001 in senior advocacy, communications, operations, and development roles for local and national Federations and organizations. Ari has achieved additional certifications in executive leadership and impact investing at the Said Business School at Oxford University and the Stern School of Business at NYU.

Ari has led hundreds on missions to Israel, with a focus on advocacy training, history, and strategic engagement. He successfully guided growing annual and legacy giving campaigns as Director of Development at the Jewish Federation of Ottawa and the Ottawa Jewish Community Foundation. Since coming to Rockland in 2021, Ari has fostered the growth of both annual and special campaign revenues. With the partnership of local and regional donors, Ari was able to launch the Rockland Community Security Initiative, hiring a Director of Security and working with over 130 local Jewish institutions. Ari is very proud of his roles in both the Ukraine and Israel Emergency Appeals. Advocating for Israel and the Jewish people has always been at the core of Ari’s identity. His outreach within and beyond Rockland’s Jewish community has addressed issues of unity, diversity, and identity. Since October 7th, this work has never been more challenging, more painful, more rewarding or more meaningful.

Ari was appointed in 2023 to the Hudson Valley Hate and Bias Prevention Council of New York State’s Division of Human Rights. He has been a regional Board member of Canadian Jewish Congress, a senior consultant for Canada’s Centre for Israel and Jewish Advocacy, and an educator, volunteer, and lay program coordinator for CJPAC. He’s familiar with the halls and offices of Parliament Hill, Capitol Hill, and the White House. Ari is a contributor at the Times of Israel, and has written for several publications and web journals. Ari has been active on education, fundraising, and security committees and a lecturer, Torah reader and Baal Tefila in every congregation he has joined. For 12 years, he served as spiritual leader for Beth Ezekiel, a small synagogue and community in Owen Sound, Ontario. Ari is a proud father of five. He lives in Teaneck, NJ with his wife Michelle and their young daughter.

Maria Dowling

Maria Dowling is the Chief Executive Officer of Rockland Jewish Family Service (RJFS) Maria has over 35 years of experience in the not-for-profit sector. She started her career in New Jersey working with individuals and families living with Anorexia, Bulimia and other eating disorders. She was then a social worker for the Red Cross, providing the vital link between service men and women overseas and their families in the United States. In 1989, Maria came to Rockland County, NY and began working with homeless, runaway and at-risk adolescents and their families at St. Agatha Home in Nanuet, NY. In 2000, working in collaboration with a network of county and private human service organizations, Maria opened the first Homeless and Runaway Youth Shelter in Rockland County.

Maria has been the CEO of Rockland Jewish Family Service for 18 years. During her tenure, RJFS has grown from a small agency with a budget under $600,000 to a multifaceted community organization with a budget of over $4,000.000. RJFS is now a leading mental health and social service agency in Rockland County, providing essential services to children, adults, and seniors throughout the community. Maria is married to Bill Dowling, her wonderful husband of almost 30 years, who works as a vocational counselor for Jawonio. They have one amazing 23-year-old son, Daniel, whom they firmly believe is going to change the world for the better.

Lee Schwartz

Lee Schwartz is Executive Director of Israel bonds Rockland/Bergen County/ State of New Jersey and has served Israel Bonds for 25 years. He has overall responsibility for this region, one of the largest and most successful regions in the United States, with sales of approximately $100 million annually.

Prior to that, Lee began his career at the Jewish Community Center of Richmond Virginia where he met his wife, Chana, originally from Jerusalem. He continued his work as Youth and Camp Director at the Jewish Community Center in Margate New Jersey. As his career progressed, he was appointed Associate Director of Development at AIPAC for six years.

Lee has been involved at Congregation Ahavath Torah in Englewood. He and his family have been members since they lived in Englewood for close to forty years. He and Chana have two sons, Etan and Adam, daughter-in-law Ariella, married to Adam, and three grandchildren, Liam, Amalia and Nadav. Lee is actively involved in the Jewish community professionally and as a volunteer. He is very proud to be honored by JCC Rockland.

Rebecca Bannerman

Rebecca Bannerman is the Registered Representative for Israel Bonds Rockland and Upstate New York Region. Rebecca has been with Israel Bonds for 5 years where she has been developing and managing sales campaigns. Prior to this she spent several years working at the Jewish Federation of Rockland County. She has always loved working within the Jewish Community.

Rebecca started her career in magazine publishing where she worked for 20 years as a Business and Finance Director for various titles at Conde Nast Publications. She was raised in Rockland County, went to Suffern High School and has been living in Clarkstown and raising children here as well. Rebecca and her partner David, have 4 children. Corey and Mackenzie both attend the University of Delaware and Cooper and Jack are both in high school.

Andrea Myer-Winograd, Executive Director of the Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education HMCTE) and Co-Founder of Better Together, empowers the community through education to fight against injustice, intolerance and hatred in all forms. With her steadfast commitment to human and civil rights, Andrea has inspired thousands of students, professionals and community members by educating them about the past in order to promote understanding, empathy and moral courage. Andrea’s vision, professionalism and dedication to humanity have made her a beacon of light, hope and strength in Rockland County and beyond.

Educated at Northeastern University in Boston, MA, Andrea graduated with a degree in marketing and began her career leading sales for a Japanese denim company for many years. As her family began to grow, Andrea took time off to raise her three daughters and settle back in Rockland County. A few years later, Andrea returned to look for meaningful work, starting with a Chinese adoption agency and an organization supporting developmentally challenged clients. Eventually, she joined the family mortgage business. Twelve years ago, Andrea joined HMCTE as its Executive Director, and since then the organization and the community have been forever changed, shaped by her kind heart, positivity and dedication to educating others. Andrea’s work ethic, professionalism, determination and tireless efforts have earned her the respect of students, teachers, professionals and civic leaders from all backgrounds. Andrea is a member of The Association of Holocaust Organizations having formed relationships with some of the most esteemed Holocaust historians in the world and has received certification in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from Cornell University.

Rabbi Dov Oliver & Shevy Oliver

Rabbi Dov and Shevy Oliver are the dynamic duo behind Hillel of Rockland, which provides a warm and welcoming community for Jewish young adults in our area. Since assuming leadership of Hillel in 2007, together they have created a vibrant and inclusive space where participants of diverse backgrounds can explore their Jewish identities and connect with their peers.

Both Dov and Shevy have many years of experience in Jewish outreach in such far flung places as South Africa, Slovakia, Israel, Canada, and California. During the early years of their marriage, while living in Dov’s hometown of Melbourne, Australia, they traveled to the Australian outback to engage Jewish people who were geographically and spiritually distant from Jewish life.

Rabbi Dov, who prepared for the rabbinate in Montreal and Israel, has led 29 Birthright Israel trips, enabling more than 1,000 students to experience Israel. One of the most sought after trip leaders, he has been tapped to lead trips for children of Birthright’s benefactors.

As the descendant of Holocaust survivors, Dov found particular gratification in organizing Holocaust History Missions to Poland to educate today’s generation about this sad chapter in history.

Shevy Oliver, an alumna of RCC, was among the first to join Hillel when it was formed in 1999. She is passionate about employing arts and culture to promote appreciation and understanding of Judaism and Israel. She runs art therapy workshops and creates innovative programming for Hillel that promotes emotional and physical wellness for young adults, including hikes, yoga, drumming circles, and breathwork.

Since assuming leadership of Hillel in 2007, the Olivers have greatly expanded its reach, offering a wide range of activities and events both on and off campus that cater to the diverse interests and needs of its students. The Shabbat table at their home is a forum for open dialogue (along with great home-cooked food). Young Jewish people ranging from secular to formerly Chassidic to those simply inquiring find a home and community at the Hillel the Olivers have nurtured.

On campus at RCC, the Olivers instituted a strong Jewish presence, creating a series of activities for Jewish Heritage Month and Holocaust Commemoration. They offer an important support system to Jewish students on campus throughout a difficult climate.

The Olivers are parents of three daughters who are proud to be growing up in a home that welcomes a wide array of guests.

The center shall strengthen individual awareness and connection to the Jewish community, the state of Israel, and the community at large through recreational, physical, educational, social and cultural programs.

MESSAGE FROM THE JCC CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER & PRESIDENT

Today we honor seven outstanding community leaders for their “Generosity” in standing with Israel at JCC Rockland’s 36th Founders Celebration. Extraordinary times, call for extraordinary people and here are a few highlights on why these remarkable honorees were chosen as this year’s recipients of the Estelle & Allan z”l Eisenkraft Founder’s Award.

Ari Rosenblum of the Jewish Federation & Foundation of Rockland County, played a pivotal role in rallying our community post October 7th. First bringing together 2,000 people for a community solidarity gathering and then to Washington, DC for the March for Israel with 13 buses with more than 700 local attendees. Federation has raised over $725,000 for Israel relief funds on top of their agency’s local campaign.

Maria Dowling of Rockland Jewish Family Service continues to lead with compassion and is always willing to be the first to step in for someone to find a way to manage the challenges they face. Maria oversees an incredible caring staff who have been instrumental in helping the community cope through the loss and heartache of this deadly war.

Lee Schwartz and Rebecca Bannerman of Israel Bonds always impress us with their steadfast support of the State of Israel and raising even greater funds to help with support for Israel’s infrastructure. They are a dynamic duo and have contributed greatly to the surge in bond investments helping the Israeli economy remain strong and stable.

Andrea Winograd of the Holocaust Museum & Center for Tolerance and Education has always led the plight of educating the community, through the lens of the Holocaust, about the dangers of intolerance and antisemitism. Andrea could not have imagined that she would have to face such ugliness again and counsels holocaust survivors through today’s horrors and will stop at nothing to inspire moral courage in the face of injustice.

Rabbi Dov & Shevy Oliver of Hillel Rockland never failed to bring students together in unity through tough times. They were one of the first to bring students on Birthright Israel to Israel in the midst of the war and continue to do so. Whether it is facing anti-semitism on campus or creating meaningful and safe spaces for Jewish connections, we are grateful for their courage and leadership.

Thank you to all of you who supported the journal which has raised more than $150,000. A portion of the proceeds raised will be earmarked to strengthen our community outreach and efforts in standing with Israel. We remain focused on our new vision of welcoming all into the heart of Jewish life in Rockland County. We are proud to serve people of all ages and interests and have created a place that promotes our Jewish core values of physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth. We are grateful to each of you for remaining steadfast in your support for Israel and the JCC.
