Great Things are Happening in our Division! HUS Accreditation Preparation: Our HUS Self-Study is now complete! While we await the assignment of readers to our submission, we are preparing our Department for site visits. Accreditation Site Visitors will review our program documents and visit our campuses, as described in the Self-Study. Site Visitors will speak with our adjunct faculty, staff and community partners (i.e. advisory board members or internship site supervisors). To that end, we want to make sure that we are able to discuss our Human Services Mission and our Human Services Conceptual Framework. Be sure to regularly discuss this information with students in your HUS courses; more information will be available soon. Please contact Katherine Pickens, HUS Program Director by email at: Kathrine.pickens@baker.edu or by calling (586) 790-9450 if you are interested in assisting with the process or if you have questions.

Mission of the Human Service Program: The mission of Baker College Human Services Program is to train and prepare students to value and appreciate the uniqueness of human life and diversity. Students will be prepared to work as professional members of a multidisciplinary team understanding that, as helping professionals, they will often serve the underserved. Conceptual Framework: Improving the human condition through Knowledge, Theory, Application and Practice – KTAP

ECE New Certificate Proposal: Beginning winter quarter 2015, the Clinton Township Early Childhood Education Program will Pilot a new Certificate titled, “Special Needs Paraprofessional/Behavior Technician Program”. This new Certificate is the result of a collaboration between the Southeast Regional Area Health Education Council (AHEC) and University Physicians Autism Center (formerly known as Children’s Hospital of Michigan). The goal of this Certificate Program is to in part help identify and train individuals interested in serving those impacted by Autism and to prepare students for positions as Behavioral Health Technicians. There is currently a dearth of qualified individuals in southeast Michigan qualified to deliver support services those challenged by Autism Spectrum Disorders.

CRJ Police Academy Option The CRJ Program will Pilot a Police Academy Option beginning Winter 2015. The campuses involved in the Pilot include Clinton Township, Flint, Owosso and Online. The CRJ Program has also completed the final revisions to our Career Capstone Courses (Internships); we expect this information to be available Winter 2015.

John started running in 1998 at age 39 to improve his fitness and before he knew it he was hooked. His first Marathon was held in Alaska in 1999 and to date he has completed Marathons in 43 states. The vast majority of John’s Marathon appearances were completed in under four hours, and he can boast of having qualified for and run in the Boston Marathon three times. He hopes to complete his 50 state Marathon tour in the state of Hawaii within the next two years. His personal goals include completing a Marathon in each of the 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii and he is well on his way to achieving this major life achievement. Congratulations John!
