AIMS AND OBJECTIVES  To represent the best interest of medical students at all levels  To facilitate the learning process by acting as a bridge between the faculty and the students  To give constructive input so as to improve the standard of education  To organize projects aimed at delivering medical education

 To increase students’ knowledge of medical education, so as to ensure maximal efficiency of the standing committee and empower the students

REASONS TO JOIN SCOME 1) Nothing is perfect. Medical education is not nothing. Thus it is not perfect. :) 2) If something is not perfect it can definitely be improved. 3) Students are the first quality check of medical education so the first who see

what's wrong or missing. 4) We all complain. We might as well complain where our opinions could actually change something and not in the back of the class. 5) It's very unlikely no other medical student faced the problems you face back in your university or has the same interests.

6) It's absolutely impossible there is nothing you could learn from other medical students.

7) If something is wrong it can be fixed, if something is missing it can be added. If you expect others to do it, they might expect you to, and you'll all keep on waiting. You will never receive an answer, if you don't ask, or get to a solution, if you don't try.

8) It is certain that working together with others one can achieve more than alone.

9) Smart people learn from other people's experiences. Dumb people not even from their own.

10) Ideas are the only things you can give to other people and still have.

UPCOMING MAJOR EVENTS • SCOME CDs

• Career Day • USMLE Workshop • Student Study Module (SSM)

WHAT IS SCORP???  Standing

Committee on Human Rights and Peace  Used to be Refugees and Peace

HISTORY... 

Founded in 1983. At that time, it was named SCOR. ◦ SCOR's mission was to call attention to the problems displaced people faced, as well as, to participate in relief efforts. ◦ Realise these efforts were only palliative. ◦ Looked for sustainable solutions on prevention of conflicts and human rights abuses. ◦ Standing Committee on human Rights and Peace was forged in 1994.

HOW DOES THIS RELATE TO US? 

Refugees, internally displaced people and other vulnerable populations are of a highest risk of losing health and of having their human rights abused. We work on their problems, needs and prevention of conflicts through peaceful conflict resolution. SCORP understands peace as, person to person, group to group, state to state, having international solidarity, tolerance and respect for human rights.

Mission Statement ď ˝

• The Committee was developed in May of 2012, as an addition to JAMSA. It serves primarily to develop Policy Statements, which will be proposed to the International Federation of Medical Students Association, IFMSA. • The these Policy statements represent the voice of the Jamaican Medical students on global health issues. If accepted in whole or in part, we will be invariably adding our support to the stance taken by the other 1.2 million medical students under the IFMSA. • The Committee also serves to empower medical students with knowledge about advocacy and why it is needed.

Here is a excellent reason why advocating for health care policy development is important.
