MEANING BEHIND SYMBOL OF THAI THERAVADA
Importance of understanding human experience within the built environment
"Open cities" versus "closed cities" concept
Open cities characterized by porous boundaries, diverse communities and flexible structures
Closed cities marked by rigid divisions homogeneous enclaves, and fortified spaces
Architects should design spaces fostering connectivity, diversity, and inclusivity
Successful architectural interventions contribute to the social fabric of cities
Designs should promote interaction, collaboration and a sense of belonging
Architects should prioritize well-being and empowerment of inhabitants
Alienation and Isolation: Sennett explores how certain urban designs can contribute to feelings of alienation and isolation among residents For example he critiques the prevalence of gated communities and sterile, privatized spaces that prioritize exclusivity over community interaction.
The Role of Public Space: Sennett highlights the significance of public space as a vital component of urban life He discusses how well-designed public spaces can serve as forums for social interaction, cultural exchange, and collective activities, fostering a sense of belonging and shared ownership among diverse communities
Historical Perspectives: Drawing on historical examples Sennett examines how different societies have approached the design and organization of cities throughout the ages. He reflects on the lessons that can be learned from past successes and failures in urban planning, emphasizing the importance of context-specific approaches.
The Need for Collaboration Sennett emphasizes the importance of collaborative and participatory approaches to urban planning and design. He argues that involving residents in decision-making processes can lead to more responsive, contextually appropriate solutions that address the diverse needs and aspirations of urban populations

The truth of suffering (dukkha) All beings experience pain and misery during their lifetime Birth, old age sickness, death, sorrow grief, anxiety, contact with the unpleasant, separating from the pleasant and not getting what one wants are all forms of suffering.
The truth of the cause of suffering (samudaya) The origin of pain and misery is due to a specific cause: desire It is the desire for pleasures, existence and non-existence that leads to rebirth, accompanied by pleasure and passion
The truth of the cessation of suffering (nirodha): The cessation of pain and misery can be achieved by complete non-passion and cessation of desire, with its abandonment, renunciation liberation, and detachment from it
The truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering (magga): The method we must follow to stop pain and misery is that of the noble Eightfold Path. The Eightfold Path consists of right view, right intention right speech right action, right livelihood, right effort right mindfulness, and right concentration.
Theravada Buddhism is around the notion of breaking the cycle of Samsara (escaping reincarnation).
