Press Tool Design

What Is a Press Tool?
A press tool is a specifically designed device, that is installed on a press machine to cut, or shape sheet metal into specific profiles. The efficiency, accuracy and lifespan of a press tool depend on how well it is designed.
When designing a press tool, tool designers must keep in mind the materials, production speed, operational load, and expected wear to ensure durability and performance.
PIERCING TOOL
This tool is used to punch holes or shapes in the sheet metal.
This tool can be considered as a secondary tool, and mostly used after blanking.
Piercing is usually carried out after blanking, making it a secondary operation in the sheet-metal working process.

FORMING TOOL
Forming tool is used to bend or reshape metal without cutting, used for operations like curling or coining.

A forming tool is used to bend, shape, or reshape sheet metal into the desired contour without removing any material.
Common forming operations include bending, curling, coining, embossing, flanging, and drawing.
COMPOUND TOOL
This is a multifunctional tool, it performs multiple operations like blanking and piercing in a single stroke.
A compound tool is a multifunctional press tool designed to perform two or more operations (such as blanking and piercing) in a single stroke of the press. In this tool, multiple operations are carried out at one station, increasing productivity and accuracy.
