Varhany znějící 2011 Slaný–Budenice–Vraný Vážení posluchači, prostřednictvím živých nahrávek na kompaktním disku Varhany znějící 2011 Slaný–Budenice–Vraný se můžete seznámit s historickými varhanami ve Slaném, Budenicích a ve Vraném tak, jak je na pěti koncertech třetího ročníku mezinárodního varhanního festivalu Varhany znějící rozezněli čeští a zahraniční varhaníci Monika Melcová, Pavel Černý, Klaus Eichhorn spolu s Irinou Kisselovou (barokní housle), Adam Viktora společně s Gabrielou Eibenovou (soprán) a Leo van Doeselaar.

Při zahajovacím koncertu festivalu (2. 5. 2011) se v bývalé piaristické kapli ve Slaném rozezněly varhany J. I. Schmidta (?) z konce 18. století. Slovenská varhanice Monika Melcová nás prostřednictvím programu nazvaného Aria variata soleggiata přenesla na prosluněný jih Evropy 16. a 17. století. Výběr skladeb španělských a italských autorů tvořil reprezentativní ukázku oblíbených hudebních forem v Itálii a ve Španělsku v době renesance a baroka, které se pak v průběhu tohoto více jak dvousetletého období rozšířily do zaalpských zemí. Krásnou tečkou tohoto koncertu byla Bachova varhanní transkripce Vivaldiho Concerta pro smyčce a improvizace na jméno Frescobaldi.

V klášterním kostele Nejsvětější Trojice ve Slaném, kde se uskutečnil druhý festivalový koncert (4. 5. 2011), jehož motto bylo Varhany z františkánského chóru opět zní…, pro nás český varhaník Pavel Černý znovu objevil kouzlo varhanního zvuku vycházejícího z původního františkánského chóru umístěného za vrcholem hlavního oltáře. Právě tam byl při koncertu umístěn varhanní pozitiv neznámého českého mistra z počátku 18. století, který nechal P. Černý restaurovat v Holandsku a zachránil jej tak před zničením. Původní pozitiv byl v těchto místech zmiňován již roku 1674. V roce 1776 pak na místě pozitivu postavil a do hlavního oltáře netradičně zakomponoval dvoumanuálové varhany A. Reiss. Torzo těchto unikátních varhan můžeme spatřit v prospektu hlavního oltáře dodnes. V programu pro nás Pavel Černý vybíral z těch nejkrásnějších skladeb, které na poli české varhanní hudby vznikly mezi 16. a 18. stoletím. A prosím nenechte se zmást mnohými ne zrovna česky znějícími jmény. Jejich nositelé získali světový věhlas právě v Čechách, kde působili například v pražské Rudolfínské kapele, nebo zastávali nejprestižnější varhanická a kapelnická místa v Praze.

Třetí koncert (7. 5. 2011) nesl podtitul Struny a píšťaly a zavedl nás do kaple sv. Václava na zámku v Budenicích. V tomto komorním a veřejnosti běžně nepřístupném prostředí jsme si vychutnali krásný zvuk varhanního pozitivu z 18. století v souznění

s barokními houslemi. Oba nástroje, ve skladbách německých autorů 17. a 18. století, citlivě rozezněli uznávaní němečtí specialisté na interpretaci staré hudby Klaus Eichhorn a Irina Kisselova.

Ave, organorum inventio. Tak nazvali varhaník Adam Viktora a sopranistka Gabriela Eibenová čtvrtý festivalový koncert (9. 5. 2011), za kterým jsme se vydali do kostela Narození sv. Jana Křtitele ve Vraném. Pečlivý výběr méně rozsáhlých kompozic – od baroka přes klasicismus a romantismus až do současnosti – byl zcela podřízen tomu, aby vyniklo krásné zvukové zabarvení romantického nástroje firmy Rejna–Černý z roku 1895. Varhanní transkripce, které byly součástí programu, pak jen potvrdily výjimečnost a mnohostrannost zvukových i technických možností varhan jako nástroje obecně. Skladbám, které byly původně určeny pro jiné klávesové nástroje nebo pro smyčcový orchestr, transkripce nejenže neublížily, ale rozšířily je o další mnohdy netušené obzory.

Závěrečný koncert festivalu (11. 5. 2011) – Johann Sebastian Bach a prameny jeho inspirace – patřil největším dochovaným varhanám z dílny A. Reisse, které od roku 1783 zdobí kůr chrámu sv. Gotharda ve Slaném. Holandský varhaník Leo van Doeselaar sestavil program z děl skladatelů, jejichž tvorba prokazatelně patřila k mnoha inspiračním pramenům velikána barokní hudby J. S. Bacha. Slyšeli jsme proto kompozice Bachových předchůdců i současníků, jejichž tištěné hudební sbírky nebo vlastnoruční opisy jednotlivých skladeb byly součástí Bachovy knihovny. Určitým pramenem inspirace byla jistě i tvorba Bachových synů, kterou v programu zastupoval Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. A samozřejmě nechyběly ani skladby samotného Johanna Sebastiana...

The organ resounding 2011 Slaný–Budenice–Vraný Dear listeners, by the means of the live recordings on this CD named The organ resounding 2011 Slaný–Budenice–Vraný you have the unique chance to familiarize yourselves with the historic organs in Slaný, Budenice and Vraný. Both Czech and foreign organists such as Monika Melcová, Pavel Černý, Klaus Eichhorn together with Irina Kisselova (baroque violin), Adam Viktora together with Gabriela Eibenová (soprano) and Leo van Doeselaar let them sound during five concerts of the third year of the international festival called The organ resounding.

At the festival opening concert (2nd May 2011) the organ by J. I Schmidt from the late 18th century resounded in the former Piarist college in Slaný. Monika Melcová, a Slovak organist, took us in her programme called Aria variata soleggiata to the sunny South of Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. She selected works by Spanish and Italian composers that represented a characteris-

tic sample of popular music forms both in Italy and Spain in the Renaissance and Baroque periods which have spread to transalpine countries during more than two hundred years. A nice closing part of the programme was the organ transcription of Vivaldi´s Concerto for strings by J. S. Bach and the improvisation on the name of Frescobaldi.

In the Trinity Monastery Church in Slaný, where the second festival concert with the motto The organ from the Franciscan chancel sounds again … was held (4th May 2011), Pavel Černý, the Czech organist, re-discovered the charm of the organ sound coming out from the original Franciscan chancel located behind the top of the high altar. This is also the place where the organ positive by an unknown Czech master stood in the early 1700s. Pavel Černý had it restored in Holland and so he prevented from its destruction. According to some written records, the original positive was supposed to be here already in 1674. In 1776 A. Reiss built a two-manual organ and incorporated it into the high altar where the original positive used to be placed. The torso of this unique organ can still be seen in the façade of the high altar. In his programme, Pavel Černý selected the best Czech organ compositions that had been composed in the period between the 16th and 18th centuries. And please do not be mistaken by many names that do not sound Czech - their holders became famous right here in the Czech lands. They played for example in the Prague Rudolfinum Band or they occupied the most prestigious organist or bandmaster posts in Prague.

The third concert (7th May 2011) with the subtitle Strings and Pipes led us to the St Wenceslaus Chapel in the castle of Budenice.

In this intimate atmosphere, which is normally not open to the public, we enjoyed the beautiful sound of the organ positive from the 18th century in the accordance with a baroque violin. Both instruments in the compositions of German authors of the 17th and 18th centuries were sensitively chimed by Klaus Eichhorn and Irina Kisselova, two respected specialists in interpretation of early music.

Ave, organorum inventio – this name was given to the fourth festival concert (9 th May 2011), which was held in the John Baptist´s Church in Vraný, by Adam Viktora, an organist, and Gabriela Eibenová, a soprano. A careful selection of shorter compositions, which date back to times from the Classicism and Romanticism till the present times, showed off the beautiful sound of the romantic instrument by Rejna–Černý company from 1895. The organ transcriptions, which were a part of the programme, only proved the exceptionality and miscellaneousness of both the sound and technical potential of the organ and an organ as an instrument in general. Not only did the transcriptions harm the works intended for other keyboards or a string orchestra, but what is more, they showed us that they could broaden their horizons.

The closing concert of the festival (11th May 2011) – Johann Sebastian Bach and sources of his inspiration – introduced the largest preserved organ by A. Reiss, which has been in the chancel of the St Gothard´s Church in Slaný since 1783. Leo van Doeselaar, a Dutch organist, prepared a rich programme compiled of works by those composers whose output obviously inspired Johann Sebastian Bach, a great composer of baroque music. We heard compositions by both Bach´s predecessors and his contemporaries whose printed music collections or manuscripts of the particular compositions had made a part of Bach´s library. His son´s works, which were represented by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach in this programme, must have been a certain source of inspiration for him, too. And of course, you will not be missing the works by Johann Sebastian himself…

Monika Melcová se narodila na Slovensku. Po absolvovaní Konzervatoře v Košicích studovala na Universtät für Musik und darstellende Kunst ve Vídni pod vedením H. Haselbocka a M. Radulescu. Studium ukončila s vyznamenáním a Čestnou cenou Ministerstva kultury a školství Rakouska v r. 1999 a v tom samém roce byla přijatá na Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique v Paříži do třídy O. Latryho a M. Bouvarda. Současně studovala v improvizační třídě L. Malliého, což jí bylo umožněné díky Fondation de France – La Bourse Nadia et Lily Boulanger a Mécénat musical Société Générale. V sezóně 2002/2003 působila jako rezidenční varhanice v Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara v Japonsku. Vedla mistrovské kurzy o francouzské hudbě a o improvizaci pro studenty Tokijské hudební Univerzity a také pro Sapporo Organ Academy. Během studií získala M. Melcová množství ocenění v mezinárodních soutěžích. V současnosti vyučuje na Konzervatoři Gastona Litaizeho v Paříži a je titulární varhanicí v Saint Martin des Champs v Paříži. Pravidelně koncertuje na prestižních nástrojích v Notre Dame de Paris, v Chapelle Royale de Granada, v Eglise de la Madeleine a v Saint Germain en Laye. Realizovala nahrávky pro Radio France, NHK Tokio, Slovenský rozhlas, Radio Suisse Romande, ORF Vídeň, RTBF Brusel.

Monika Melcová was born in Slovakia. After her studies at the Conservatory in Košice, she went on to study at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with H. Haselböck and M. Radulescu and received her „Magister Artium“ with the highest distinction and a Prize of Honour by the Austrian Ministry for Culture and Education in 1999. In the same year, she was enrolled for post gradual courses at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris to perfect her organ playing with O. Latry and M. Bouvard. She received grants from the Foundation Meyer and the Mécénat Musical Société Générale. The Nadia and Lili Boulanger Foundation supported her studies of improvisation with L. Mallie at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Lyon. In 2002 she was appointed organist of the KERN organ at the Kitara Sapporo Concert Hall in Japan. She performed and taught master-classes on French music and improvisation at the University of Music in

Tokyo and at the Sapporo Organ Academy, too. .During her studies, she was awarded in various international competitions several times. Currently Monika Melcová teaches at the Gaston Litaize´s Conservatory in Paris and is an organist at Saint Martin des Champs in Paris. She gives regular concerts and plays the most prestigious instruments in Notre Dame de Paris, Chapelle Royale de Granada, Eglise de la Madelaine and Saint Germain en Laye. She has made recordings with the radio France, NHK Tokyo, Slovenský rozhlas, La Radio de la Suisse Romande, ORF Vienna, RTBF Bruxelles etc

Varhany v kapli Zasnoubení Panny Marie ve Slaném. Dosud se traduje, že autorem nástroje v kapli Zasnoubení Panny Marie je Antonín Reiss. Pečlivé zkoumání varhan napovídá, že se jedná o rukopis jiného autora. Organolog MUDr. Tomáš Horák se domnívá, že se jedná o rokokové varhany loketského mistra Johanna Georga Ignaze Schmidta, který v 60. letech 18. století pracoval v nedaleké Peruci. Na počátku 20. století byly u varhan provedeny tehdy žádané moderní změny a nestylové zásahy. V roce 1918 byly pro válečné účely zrekvírovány průčelní cínové píšťaly, později nahrazené zinkovými. V roce 1994 renovoval nástroj varhanář Franz z Prahy.

Varhanám vrátil dispozici II. manuálu do původního stavu. Hlavní nástroj je rozdělen do dvou skříní, pozitiv se nachází přímo v hracím stole. Varhany, zčásti v nepůvodním stavu, jsou cennou památkou.

Vzhledem k pozdějším zásahům a změnám ovšem nástroj nemá svůj originální zvuk.

The organ in the Chapel of Virgin Mary´s Engagement in Slaný. It has been believed so far that the instrument in the Chapel of Virgin Mary´s Engagement is a piece of work by Antonín Reiss.

But a thorough examination of the organ suggests that it was built by another organ maker. Tomáš Horák M. D., an organologist, believes it to be an organ by Johann Georg Ignaz Schmidt from Loket who worked in Peruc in the 1760s. In the early 1900s some modern changes and non-style adjustments were made. In 1918 the front tin pipes were requisitioned for military purposes and later replaced by zinc ones. In 1994 Franz from Prague, an organ maker, renovated the instrument. The organ´s specification of the

2nd manual was restored into its original condition. The main instrument is divided into two cases; the positive is situated directly in the console. The organ, which is partly in non-original condition, is a priceless relic. However, due to later adjustments and changes, the instrument misses its original sound.

Pavel Černý – varhaník, pedagog a organolog – patří v České republice k nejžádanějším umělcům svého oboru. Jeho mezinárodní renomé potvrzují častá pozvání ke koncertním vystoupením nejen v Evropě, ale i v zámoří (USA, Japonsko, Brazílie, Afrika, Kuba). Vyučuje varhanní hru a improvizaci na AMU v Praze a JAMU v Brně a zasedá jako člen soutěžních porot. Vystudoval konzervatoř a AMU v Praze a své vzdělání rozšířil u řady vynikajících evropských osobností. Jeho kariéra byla odstartována získáním 1. cen ve varhanních soutěžích v Opavě (1990), Lublani (1992) a na Pražském jaru (1994). Další ceny mu byly uděleny prostřednictvím významných kulturních organizací.

Doma i v zahraničí natáčí na CD, pro rozhlas a televizi. Je tvůrcem seriálů o varhanách (radio Proglas), jeho některé CD nahrávky byly vysoko oceněny zahraniční kritikou. Pavel Černý je varhaníkem kostela sv. Ludmily v Praze a uměleckým ředitelem mezinárodního varhanního festival FOW – Pražské varhany. Spolupracuje jako dohled při stavbách, restaurování a dokumentaci varhan a publikuje odborné články.

Pavel Černý – an organist, teacher and organologist – belongs among the leading Czech performers in his field. His international reputation can be proved by frequent invitations to concert performances not only in Europe but overseas, too (e. g. the USA, Japan, Brazil, Africa and Cuba). Pavel Černý teaches organ-play and improvisation at AMU (Academy of Arts) in Prague and JAMU (Janáček´s Academy of Arts) in Brno. He often works as a jury member at different music competitions. He studied at the conservatory and JAMU in his home town of Prague and was taught by many excellent European performers. His career started by winning the first prizes at organ competitions in Opava (1990), Ljubljana (1992) and the Prague Spring (1994). Since then, he has been awarded several times by many prominent cultural

organizations. He makes CD-recordings both in homeland and abroad and he records for the radio and television, too. He is the author of the radio series on organs (Proglas Radio), some of his CD-recordings have been highly regarded by foreign reviews. Pavel Černý is an organist in St Ludmila´s Church in Prague and Art Manager of the international FOW – Prague organs festival. He is also an organologist of the Prague archdiocese where he supervises organ buildings, restorations and documentations of the organs. He publishes articles and sits on committees as a consultant.

Varhanní pozitiv neznámého mistra. Varhanní pozitiv, který na koncertě zazněl, postavil neznámý mistr asi počátkem 18. století pravděpodobně v Čechách. V průběhu 19. století zřejmě došlo k úpravám, nebo byl pozitiv nově zkompletován z již nefunkčních součástí staršího nástroje. V roce 1981 byl pozitiv zbaven pravděpodobně nepůvodní polychromie, opět zkompletován, zprovozněn a opatřen motorem varhanářem Františkem Krutským (tehdy varhanářské družstvo Igra), protože tehdejší majitel ho dostal od faráře ve Svárově u Unhoště darem v rozloženém nehratelném stavu v bednách. Farář jej získal odkudsi z jižních Čech. V roce 2000 jej koupil Pavel Černý a v roce 2003 odvezl do Nizozemí, kde jej pod vedením varhanáře Jana van Rossuma pietně zrestauroval a připravil pro finální polychromii, kterou provedl Ak. mal. Peter Stirber. Na restaurování skříně a dřevěných píšťal se podíleli Aleš Repka z varhanářské dílny Kánský–Brachtl, Dalibor Michek a Petr Dlabal. Koncert ve Slaném byl ojedinělou veřejnou příležitostí slyšet tento skvost.

The organ positive by an unknown master. The organ positive whose sound you could hear at the concert had been built by an unknown master probably in Bohemia in the early 1700s. During the 19th century the positive was probably adjusted or it was newly completed from non-functioning parts of an older instrument. In 1981 the probably non-original polychromy was removed from the positive and the instrument was completed again. As the organ´s owner of that time received it as a present from the pastor in Svárov near Unhošť (he had gained it from somewhere in South Bohemia) in a disassembled unplayable condition, it was put into operation again and provided with

an engine by František Krutský, an organist (the Igra organ maker association at that time). In 2000 Pavel Černý bought it from him and three years later he took it to the Netherlands. There he piously restored it under the leadership of Jan van Rossum and prepared it for the final polychromy, which was carried out by Peter Stirber, an academic painter. The case and wooden pipes were restored by Aleš Repka (from the Kánský–Brachtl organ maker workshop), Dalibor Michek and Petr Dlabal. The concert held in Slaný was a unique public opportunity to hear this outstanding gem.

Původní varhany v kostele Nejsv. Trojice ve Slaném. V původně hřbitovním kostele stály varhany již před třicetiletou válkou, snad krátce po r. 1605. R. 1674 je uváděn na kůru za oltářem 4 rejstříkový pozitiv. Staré varhany byly jistě opravovány, kromě opravy r. 1737 však nemáme dosud bližších zpráv. Nynější nástroj, jehož torzo se dochovalo dodnes, vyšel z rukou pražského varhanáře Antonína Reisse (1776).

Zajímavě koncipovaný dvoumanuálový nástroj ve dvou křídlech po stranách hlavního oltáře a s pozitivem na mnišském chóru stál celkem 236 zl. a 150 liber cínu. Varhany byly r. 1843 opraveny místním varhanářem J. Suchým. Na konci 19. století již nehrály a naděje na opravu se zmenšila, když na západním kůru postavil nové, dobově moderní varhany, Em. Š. Petr z Prahy. Postupné chátrání nástroje urychlila 1. světová válka, kdy byly rekvírovány prospektové píšťaly Principálu 8´. Během 2. pol. 20. století byl pak nástroj devastován, takže zbylo jen torzo. Podrobnou prohlídkou dochovaných částí nástroje je možné rekonstruovat původní dispozici varhan. V současné době není rekonstrukce celého nástroje vyloučena.

The original organ in the Trinity Church in Slaný. An organ was already located in the original cemetery church before the Thirty Years´ War, perhaps shortly after 1605. In 1674 a four-register positive was mentioned to be in the chancel behind the altar. The old organ must have been repaired several times; however, we do not have any further written records, except for the one from 1737. The present instrument, whose torso has been preserved till now, is a work by Reiss (1776), a Prague organ maker. An interestingly built two-manual instrument in two chambers on both sides of the high altar and with the positive in the monk chancel totally cost 236 golden coins and 150 pounds of tin. In 1843 the organ was repaired by Josef Suchý, a local organ maker. However, it stopped playing in the late 1800s and there seemed to be no prospects of it being repaired because a new, modern and popular organ by E. Š. Petr from Prague had been built in the west chancel. Gradual dereliction of the organ was sped up by the World War I when the Principal 8´– facade pipes were requisitioned. During the late 20th century the instrument was gradually devastated and only a torso has been left. After thorough observing the remained parts of the instrument, you can reconstruct the original organ specification. The reconstruction of the whole instrument is not excluded at present.

Klaus Eichhorn se narodil v r. 1949 a studoval chrámovou hudbu a cembalo na vysoké škole v Berlíně.

Podílel se na založení Musicalische Compagney, která dále určovala jeho osobní vývoj. Od r. 1972 do r. 1981 byl poradcem státního a chrámového sboru v Berlíně a v r. 1981 založil vlastní smíšený sbor Capella Cantorum. Jeho účast na festivalech v Utrechtu, Innsbrucku, Flandrech, Šlesvicku-Holštýnsku a jiných, spolupráce s komorními sbory (RIAS, Stuttgratský sbor, Drážďanský sbor) a vystoupení pod vedením dirigentů jako J. E. Gradinera, F. Berniuse, A. Parotta a jiných dokazují jeho velkou váženost jako absolutně spolehlivého hráče generálbasu. Jeho rozmanitou činnost doplňují sólové koncerty na varhany. V r. 1994 se stal po dlouhé akademické kariéře na brémské Akademii staré hudby profesorem na Vysoké škole umělecké v Brémách. Kromě toho je docentem varhan a hry generálbasu na Evangelické vysoké škole církevní hudby v Halle. Od r. 2005 je činný jako organolog v diecézi Berlín-Brandenbursko. Jeho hlavním oborem je duchovní hudba 16.–18. století.

Klaus Eichhorn, who was born in 1949, studied church music and harpsichord play at the College of Music (West) Berlin. He was a co-founder of the Musicali Compagney which predetermined his further personal development. From 1972 till 1981 he worked as a training representative at State & Cathedral Choir Berlin and in 1981 he founded his own mixed choir called Capella Cantorum. His taking part in famous festivals (Utrecht, Innsbruck, Flandres, Schleswick-Holstein and others), cooperation with some chamber choirs such as RIAS, Stuttgart choir or Dresden choir, and performances with great conductors such as J. E. Gradiner, F. Brnius, A. Parott and others can prove his enormous respectability as a competent and an absolutely reliable basso continuo player. His miscellaneous activities comprise solo organ concerts as well. In 1994 after a long academic career at the Early Music Academy of Bremen, Klaus Eichhorn became a professor at the University of Arts in Bremen. Moreover, he is a lecturer in organ and basso continuo playing at the Evangelic University for Church Music in Halle. Since 2005 he has been an active organologist in Berlin-Brandenburg diocese. His principal field of activity lies in the sacred music of the 16th to18th centuries.

Irina Kisselova se po studiu na National Conservatory N. A. Rimského-Korsakova v Petrohradě specializovala na hru na barokní housle ve třídě Thomase Alberta v Brémách. Svoji závěrečnou zkoušku absolvovala s vyznamenáním. Hrála se soubory, jako jsou Weser renesance, Les Musiciens du Louvre a Fiori Musicali Brémy. Od r. 2009 je Irina Kisselova profesorkou hry na barokní housle na Hochschule für Künste v Brémách.

Irina Kisselova is a violin player. After her studies at the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in St. Peterburg, she specialized in playing the baroque violin in Thomas Albert´s class in Bremen and passed her finals with the highest distinction. She has played with choruses such as Weser Renaissance, Les Musiciens du Louvre and Fiori Musicali Bremen. Since 2009 Irina Kisselova has been teaching baroque violin play at the Hochschule für Künste (University of Arts) in Bremen.

Varhanní pozitiv v kapli sv. Václava zámku v Budenicích.

V zámecké kapli sv. Václava se dochoval pozitiv, který můžeme dle architektury skříně, výtvarných prvků a řezbářské výzdoby datovat k počátku 18. století . Kdo je jeho autorem, dosud nevíme, v úvahu přichází více varhanářských dílen, např. loketští Starckové či J. C. Neumann. Nástroj byl původně koncipován jako přenosný, se dvěma klínovými měchy na skříni – tyto jsou dodnes funkční. Nověji bylo zřízeno čerpání vzduchu v postamentu podobně jako u harmonií tak, aby si hráč mohl sám „našlapat“ vzduch a nebyl závislý na kalkantovi. Budenický pozitiv má svého sourozence – je jím nástroj v kapli sv. Jana Nepomuckého v Praze na Jenerálce. Krom nepůvodního uniformního nátěru a některých detailů v řezbě je tento pozitiv budenickému velmi podobný. Také zde však varhanář není dosud znám.

The organ positive in St Wenceslaus Castle Chapel in Budenice. In St Wenceslaus Castle Chapel there is a well preserved positive which might date back to the early 1700s as we can conclude from the case architecture, decorations and woodcarving ornamentation. The author has not been known so far, there are several organ makers who might have built it such as the Starcks from Loket or J. C. Neumann. The instrument was originally built as a portable with two wedge-shaped bellows – these can be operated even nowadays. A wind pump was installed into the basement so that the organist could supply the organ with air by himself and would not have to be dependent on the calcant. The positive in Budenice has got its sibling – it is the instrument in the Chapel of St Johan from Nepomuk in “Na jenerálce” street in Prague. Except for the non-original uniform painting and some details in woodcarving, these two positives are very alike. Unfortunately, the organ maker is not known here either.

Adam Viktora vystudoval Konzervatoř v Plzni a Akademii múzických umění v Praze. Vzdělání si dále rozšířil soukromým studiem u Ch. Bosserta a na mistrovských interpretačních kurzech např. u Tagliaviniho, Erickssohna, Koimanna a Haselböcka. Jako dirigent, varhaník, hráč na harmonium či sbormistr vystupoval na hudebních festivalech u nás i v zahraničí. Jeho koncertní přednášková činnost ho zavedla do většiny evropských zemí. Nahrává pro Český rozhlas a Českou televizi. Velký zájem věnuje A. Viktora studiu historických varhan a aktivitám usilujících o jejich záchranu a propagaci. Působí jako odborný poradce při restaurování historických varhan, publikuje v českém i zahraničním odborném tisku a spolupracuje na mezinárodním projektu Varhany – evropská kulturní hodnota. Je ředitelem Českého varhanního festivalu. Od r. 1998 vyučuje varhanní hru na Konzervatoři v Plzni a od roku 2007 také hudební teorii na Pražské konzervatoři. Adam Viktora je zakladatelem a uměleckým vedoucím souboru Ensemble Inégal.

Adam Viktora graduated from the Pilsen Conservatory and the Academy of Arts in Prague. He continued his education with private classes at Ch. Bossert and with master classes and interpretation courses under e.g. Tagliavini, Erickssohn, Koimann and Haselböck. As an organist, conductor or choirmaster, he has taken part in a number of music festivals all over the world. He has made many recordings with Czech radio and television. He is very interested in historic organs and on efforts to salvage and promote them. Adam Viktora works as a consultant and supervisor of historic organ restorations and his articles are often published both in Czech and foreign professional newspapers or magazines. He is noted for his active participation in the international project The Organ as Part of European Cultural Heritage. He is the director of the Czech Organ Festival. Since 1998, he has been teaching organ at the Pilsen Conservatory and since 2007 he has also lectured in music theory at the Prague Conservatory. Adam Viktora is the founder and the artistic leader of Ensemble Inégal.

Gabriela Eibenová absolvovala v roce 1993 Pražskou Konzervatoř. Poté studovala v Londýně u Julie Kennard na Royal Academy of Music a navštěvovala mistrovské kurzy v České republice, Slovensku, Velké Británii, Německu a Švédsku. Věnuje se především koncertní činnosti, je často zvána jako sólistka mezinárodních souborů staré hudby. Koncertovala na evropských festivalech Pražské jaro, Musica Antiqua Brugy, Tage Alter Musik Herne a mnoha dalších. V r. 2000 spoluzaložila vokálně-instrumentální soubor specializující se na starou hudbu, Ensemble Inégal. Vedle svých aktivit na poli staré hudby se věnuje také písňové tvorbě, soudobé hudbě, koncertní činnosti se symfonickými tělesy a divadelní práci. Realizovala bezpočet nahrávek pro Český rozhlas a podílela se na 20 CD nahrávkách.

Gabriela Eibenová graduated from the Prague Conservatory in 1993 and studied with Prof. Julie Kennard at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She took master classes in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Great Britain, Germany and Sweden.

Gabriela Eibenova has drawn attention to herself by her solo performances and often appears as a guest of many international choruses performing early music. She gives numerous concerts and takes part in renowned European festivals such as Prague Spring (Pražské Jaro), Musica Antiqua Brugy, Tage Alter Musik Herne and many others. In 2000 she co-founded Ensemble Inégal, a vocal-instrumental chorus specialized in early music. Besides her activities in the field of early music, she also devotes herself to writing songs, contemporary music, giving concerts with string orchestras and theatre activities.

She has made many radio and television recordings and her discography now amounts to almost 20 CDs. Varhany v kostele Narození sv. Jana Křtitele ve Vraném.

Kostel Narození sv. Jana Křtitele ve Vraném byl postaven v letech 1751–1761. Tehdy postavil na vranský kůr nový nástroj ve dvou křídlech pražský varhanář Mathias Sedmík, a to nejspíš jako jednomanuálový nástroj s Principálem 4´, který se v prospektu dochoval dodnes. V r. 1779 opravil varhany další pražský

varhanář Antonín Reiss, který rozšířil varhany o čtyřrejstříkový pozitiv v zábradlí kůru. Varhany byly několikrát opravovány v r. 1790 a v r. 1823. V roce 1895 vestavěla do skříní původního hlavního stroje nový kuželomechanický nástroj opět pražská firma Rejna–Černý, jako své opus č. 54. Přitom propojila obě křídla varhan vestavbou kulisy s prospektem. Ze starých varhan se tak dochovaly pouze nádherné skříně s původními cínovými píšťalami, s plastickou a figurální výzdobou, čtyřrejstříková Reissova vzdušnice v positivu v zábradlí a v rohu kůru původní varhanní lavice.

V r. 1963 opravil varhany M. Heger st. z Hořovic, který připojil k nástroji elektrické čerpadlo vzduchu. Varhany Rejny a Černého z r. 1895 jsou solidním nástrojem renomované a tehdy oblíbené firmy, které díky svému dobrému řemeslnému zpracování přečkaly bez závažných závad až do dnešních dnů.

The organ in St. John the Baptist´s Church in Vraný. St John the Baptist´s Church was built in 1751-1761. Mathias Sedmik, an organ maker from Prague, built a new instrument in two chambers in the organ loft, probably as a one-manual instrument with Principal 4´which has been preserved in the façade up to now. In 1779 the organ was repaired by Antonín Reiss, another Prague organ maker, who added a four-register positive into the gallery railing. The organ was restored several times (1790, 1823). In 1895 the Rejna–Černý&Co built a new conic-mechanical instrument into the cases of the original main instrument as their opus 54. They interconnected both organ chambers by building in a coulisse with a façade. Unfortunately, the only things that have been preserved are as follows: beautiful cases with the original tin pipes and plastic and figural decorations, the four-register Reiss´s wind chest in the positive in the railing and an original organ pew in the corner of the chancel. In 1963 M. Hegerst from Hořovice restored the organ by joining an electric bellow to the instrument. The organ by Rejna and Černý from 1895 is a solid instrument of this renowned and popular company of that time. Thanks to its good workmanship, it has survived up to these days without serious defects.

Leo van Doeselaar studoval hru na varhany u A. de Klerka a hru na klavír u J. Wijna na Sweelinckově konzervatoři v Amsterodamu. Po absolutoriu získal v r. 1979 cenu „Prix d´Excellence“ za hru na varhany. V r. 1980 obdržel cenu „Toonkunst-Jubileum“ a v r. 1981 získal „Zilveren Vriendenkrans“ koncertní budovy Concertgebouw v Amsterodamu. Po dokončení studia na konzervatoři, se zaměřil na varhanní barokní repertoár. Koncertuje po celé Evropě i Spojených Státech. Vystupuje jako sólista a učitel na mnoha důležitých festivalech staré hudby a často se objevuje jako hráč continua s renomovanými barokními soubory. Kromě těchto aktivit se vášnivě věnuje komorní hudbě a čtyřruční hře na moderní i historické klavíry. Jako varhaník natočil několik CD pro různá vydavatelství včetně první kompletní nahrávky varhanních děl W. F. Bacha a G. F. Händela. S Královským orchestrem Concertgebouw vedeným R. Chaillym natočil pro vydavatelství Decca Kammermusik No. 7 od P. Hindemitha. Nahrávka získala cenu Grammy Award. V r. 1995 byl jmenován profesorem na Universität der Künste v Berlíně. Kromě toho je varhaníkem v kostele Pieterskerk v Leidenu, a rovněž prvním varhaníkem v Concertgebouw. V r. 2007 obdržel Leo van Doeselaar prestižní cenu Jana Pieteszoona Swelincka za přínos varhanní hudbě.

Leo van Doeselaar studied organ with A.de Klerk and piano with J. Wijn at the Amsterdam Sweelinck Conservatory. After obtaining his solo degrees, he was awarded the Prix d'Excellence in organ in 1979. In 1980 he was awarded the Toonkunst-Jubileum Prize, and in 1981 he won the Zilveren Vriendenkrans of the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam. Upon the completion of his conservatory training, he specialized in the organ repertoire of the Baroque. Leo van Doeselaar appears frequently in concerts throughout Europe and the United States; he has also appeared as a soloist and teacher at numerous important Early Music festivals. He has appeared as a continuo player with many baroque ensembles. In addition to these activities, he is a dedicated chamber music performer on both historic and modern pianos. As an organist, Leo van Doeselaar has also made CD-recordings for different labels, including the first complete recording of the organ works of W. F. Bach and G. F. Händel. He was the organ soloist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Riccardo Chailly, in P. Hin-

demith's Kammermusik no. 7, recorded by Decca. This recording received a Grammy Award. In 1995 he was appointed professor at the "Universität der Künste" in Berlin. In addition he is an organist of the Van Hagerbeer-organ (1643) of the Leiden Pieterskerk as well as titular organist of the Concertgebouw. In 2007, Leo van Doeselaar received the prestigious ‘Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck' Award for his merits for the organ culture.

Později jej opravovala řada varhanářů: Jan a Ferdinand Guthové (1815), Josef Gartner z Prahy (1835), Josef Suchý ze Slaného (1844), Ferdinand Guth z Nového Strašecí (1872), Antonín Sieger z Kladna (1884) a Bohumil Paštika ze Staré Boleslavi (1907). Ti všichni se zasloužili nejen o údržbu nástroje, ale i o změny, které vedly ke změnám v původní dispozici. Na počátku 20. století se nástroji nevyhnuly některé módní vlivy, spatřující ve varhanách spíše náhradu za smyčcový orchestr. Došlo k odstranění rejstříků vyšších stopových délek a nahrazení hlasy imitujícími orchestrální nástroje.

Generální rekonstrukce nástroje se konala v letech 1994–1995. Při rekonstrukci byly po důkladné expertize varhany uvedeny do původní dispozice Antonína Reisse. Základní koncepce nástroje dbá na zdůraznění vertikál. Postament je jednoduchý a vysoký. Píšťalová skříň hlavního nástroje má jednu dominantní věž a dvě menší, mezi nimiž je pole ukončené charakteristickou římsou. Rejstříky I. manuálu jsou umístěny do obou varhanních skříní, které se rozkládají po stranách západního okna s dělením na C a Cis stranu. Hlasy II. manuálu jsou postaveny ve skříni pozitivu v zábradlí kruchty a pedálové píšťaly stojí za vzdušnicemi prvního manuálu.

The organ in St. Gothard´s Church in Slaný. This unique musical instrument was built by Antonín Reiss, the Prague organ-builder, in 1783. It was later repaired by several organ-builders such as Jan and Ferdinand Guths (1815), Josef Gartner from Prague (1835), Josef Suchý from Slaný (1844), Ferdinand Guth from Nové Strašecí (1872), Antonín Sieger from Kladno (1884) and Bohumil Paštika from Stará Boleslav (1907). All these craftsmen not only serviced

the instrument but they even contributed to positive changes in its original specification. In the early 1900s organs were mostly viewed as a substitution to a string orchestra. The registers of higher metric lengths were removed and they were replaced with voices imitating an orchestra instrument. The organ was submitted to a general reconstruction in 1994–1995.

After a thorough analysis during the reconstruction, the organ was put into the original specification by Antonín Reiss. The basic concept of the instrument puts emphasis on verticals. The basement is simple and tall. The main instrument pipe-box has one dominant case and two smaller ones, between them there is a field ended with the characteristic Roman one. The registers of the 1st manual are situated in two organ cases which can be found on both sides of western window and are divided into two areas – C and C sharp minor. The voices of the 2nd manual are located in the positive case in the organ-loft railing and the pedal pipes stand behind the wind chests of the 1st manual.
