S T E TWE MRS. A.’S CORNER
TAKING BIGGER LEAPS
Can you believe that the first month of the year has already passed? These few weeks back in school have gone so fast. Apart from the usual classes, our students in Elementary School just finished the second MAP testing. We had our first lessons in the new swimming pool. Kindergarten students were the pioneers and lessons will soon start for students in Grades 1-3. Please buy their swimming costumes in our Accounts office. Our Junior and High School students have been practicing for auditions for roles in our end of year drama: The Lion King. The auditions take place tomorrow (Saturday). Please encourage your children to participate in this great event, which will be held on 30 and 31 May. In line with current advice on the Corona and Lassa outbreaks, Nurse Flora sensitized all students and staff on how to prevent the diseases and sanitizers are being placed in all class rooms and offices. Further information on prevention will be placed on the notice boards around the school. Mrs. O. is doing very well and getting stronger every day. She is missing us and has sent her greetings to us all. Very sadly we had to say goodbye to Mrs. Dorcas, one of our longestserving cleaners who passed earlier today. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace and we pray that our Lord will comfort and strengthen her family and also our colleagues who have known her for so long. She will be missed by all of us.
Hooray! This week, our precious Kindergarteners became the first class to use the ICS swimming pool as part of their curriculum in Physical Education (P.E) The Swimming Pool project has been a dream come true. Thanks to the PTA. Swimming, in its multi-functions for children, enhances mental development, develops confidence, and boosts social skills. This life skill is also enjoyable as it clears the mind and relieves it of stress. On the first day of this class, before the children lined up with their swimming costumes, getting ready to move to the ICS Swimming Pool side, each Kindergarten Class had a discussion on swimming and the need to be careful and obedient to the rules at the pool area. We could see happiness and excitement in their bright eyes as they giggled and laughed at the thought of going to swim; and could not wait to have a feel of the water. My students were awed with excitement at the sight of the pool, as some of them had no idea that such a place existed in the school environment. Continued on Page 2
