the environment?
What does ISS do for its employees, society and the environment?
We excel in attention to our employee. Because only when you are satisfied, you can give our customer that unsurpassed service offer. ISS offers good emoluments and working conditions and invests continually in the development of its employees. That is the reason why many people (want to come to) work at ISS.
Diverse and inclusive
At ISS, we place considerable value on our place and our role in society, which is why we are glad to take our responsibility toward our employees and that society. More than 10% of our employees are among the group that has labour-market challenges. Our company is becoming increasingly diverse and inclusive. ISS recently signed the SER Diversity
Environmentally aware
We are also very active in the environmental field. We subscribe to the Plastic Pact and recently, as one of the first in the Netherlands, opened a completely plastic-free restaurant. We are also making our fleet of vehicles more sustainable. Since the greatest environmental benefits can be achieved in the area of eating and drinking, we are looking at the entire chain and ask our partners and suppliers to follow our example. We are full of ambition and are glad to show it to whomever is interested. And we note that this is catching on, both among our employees and our clients.
100% PLASTIC VRIJ
Charter, for which we are now also receiving international recognition. In 2020, we won the Global Sourcing Impact Award, a prestigious international award in the area of inclusion. ISS Netherlands is making such progress that the head ISS office in Copenhagen has asked us to take on a pioneering, role model function within ISS Global.
Works Council
Employee participation is of great importance to every ISS employee. That’s why ISS has a works council (Dutch acronym: OR) that has the interests of both our company and all of our employees at heart. So, your interests too. For each company division, ISS has colleagues who represent you and who are chosen by ISS employees. Elections are held every four years.
The OR meets regularly with our management to discuss such general interest topics as social policy or working conditions. The Works Council regularly shares information about the topics discussed during such meetings. You can request this information from your supervisor, from a Works Council member or from the secretariat of the Works Council. The information can also be found on our intranet, Inside ISS.
Training
Investing in the development of employees is one part of the OneISS strategy. ISS therefore has a digital learning environment: MyLearning. This learning environment already contains a few e-learning courses for you. We ask that you take these mandatory e-learning courses within a month after starting work. Some of these e-learning courses must be repeated annually. In addition to MyLearning, ISS also provides many in-house training courses such as the Placemakers training. We think it is important that you and your colleagues continue to develop.
Placemakers training
At ISS, every employee is a Placemaker! Our employees make the difference. We believe that our employees make life simpler, more productive and pleasant by creating, caring for and maintaining environments in a particular way. In order to provide all our Placemakers with the proper resources and to teach service behaviour, we have developed a fantastic training program. This training interactively explains how we can provide unparalleled service in a customer-focused way.
Personal Development
Cooperating means knowing each others’ goals and how we will achieve these together. That’s why we at ISS place great value on holding regular discussions with each other. During a good discussion, questions can arise such as: Do you still enjoy your work and are you dealing well with your colleagues? What are you proud of and are you doing your work well? Topics important to ISS also come to the fore: safety, MyLearning, the ISS core values, etc. This also provides the opportunity to take notes of personal objectives and personal development possibilities. For those employees within the Fuwa/Hay system, we have a process for this: the Start, Functioning and Evaluation cycle (Dutch acronym: SFB). You record both your business and your personal objectives at the beginning of the year. Halfway through the year, you discuss your progress with your manager; the final evaluation takes place at the end of the year.
Your opinion matters
You are the most important reason for our success. We know that satisfied employees result in satisfied customers. That’s why we regularly ask your opinion about certain topics in order to gauge your satisfaction and involvement. Naturally, this is also done in a completely anonymous fashion.
Which rules do we follow?
A collective employment agreement or regulation applies to everyone working at ISS. The terms of employment describe not only your rights, but also your obligations. The terms of employment regulate such issues as leave, salary and supplements. In addition to the general regulations, there are also regulations that apply to specific situations, e.g. absenteeism. Together, all of these regulations form your terms of employment package.
Pension scheme
Every employee participates in a pension scheme as part of the terms of employment package. When you enter service, ISS will provide you with information about the pension fund applicable to you. ISS withholds the premium you must pay for this from your salary. ISS pays a portion of the accrual of your pension. Each year, the pension funds establish the premiums anew.
If you start working at ISS after previously accruing pension at another pension fund, you can - under certain conditions - transfer the accrued pension to the ISS pension scheme. This is called value transfer.
The Apple Award program
That’s how we make a difference!
At ISS, the Apple is a familiar metaphor. ISS employees who ‘have found their apple’ know how to offer exceptional services to our customers. Employees are then motivated and have the capacity to support our customers and to exceed their expectations. When our employees do this, they make a difference. Anyone at ISS who experiences a colleague making a difference gets the opportunity to value that colleague for this. This is done by giving a card to the employee or by nominating the employee for the Apple Award. Each month, a winner is selected from among the nominations and an annual winner is chosen for the Apple Award from among the monthly winners.
By speaking out loud about our appreciation of each other, we build a culture of recognition so that we can continue to motivate each other to provide excellent services. We also involve our customers in this! This way, ISS receives valuable input about our Placemakers. And we find out from our customers exactly which employees truly make a difference.
At ISS, we say that an employee makes a difference by: • Customer experience: providing an extraordinary service moment for a customer – personal, unexpected and noteworthy; • innovation: coming forward with a new idea or an improvement that adds value for the customer and for ISS; • Exemplary function: being an excellent example according to the ISS core values.
Corporate guidelines
Worldwide, ISS has a number of basic principles that apply to everyone, wherever you work. They describe who we are and what we stand for. Our corporate guidelines are: • Core values • Code of conduct • Leadership principles • Whistleblower policy • Escalation policy • Safety guidelines • Protection of personal information • Anti-corruption policy • Participation policy • Sponsoring guidelines • Travel policy
You can find all of these guidelines in the OPF (Operational Process Framework), part of the Inside ISS intranet.
Absenteeism
ISS considers it important that you go to work as healthy as possible and that you stay that way. ISS expects you to do everything possible to keep from being unable to work. Staying at work is the most important thing. Do you note signals that this is not as easy as it once was? Then let your supervisor know in a timely manner. We speak of absenteeism at ISS whenever you cannot work (any longer) as a result of illness or injury. For each situation, we then make specific agreements together and look at which possibilities are indeed still present. Since we consider it important that you are informed of the rules and procedures concerning absenteeism, these regulations are included in your personnel file.
Safety
People are the heart of our organisation. That’s why the well-being and safety of our employees is crucially important to our success. In addition to its being a human need, managing risk is also a business requirement. Clients expect us to work in a safe and healthy manner. That’s why we have the vision of ‘100’ in the area of safety: 1 ISS strives to be number 1 in our business sector and to be recognised as a performance leader in the areas of health, safety and the environment; 0 ISS works with 0 lethal accidents; 0 ISS works with 0 serious accidents or injuries.
You can find information about working safely and in a healthy way on our intranet Inside ISS. And our specialists are always available for you via helpdesk.hseq@nl.issworld.com
Incidents and whistleblower policy
During your work, you may encounter incidents or events that (may) have a negative effect on: • the health or safety of yourself, your colleagues, your customers, suppliers or third-parties; • ISS activities; • the image or reputation of ISS; • ISS’ financial performance; • ISS customer relationships.
An incident can also be undesired behaviour such as aggression, sexual intimidation, bullying or discrimination.
In the unlikely event that you are confronted with an incident such as the ones mentioned above, you should always report this immediately to your supervisor. ISS also has a whistleblower policy. This whistleblower policy insures that you can tell your story and be safe and protected.
