Last month, Eagle’s Point Circle hosted a festival of wagging tails that brought together dog-lovers from across our community. More than 50 dogs of varying sizes, shapes and colors joyously reveled in all the attention.

After sitting for a portrait with their humans, they pranced past the trio of guitar players singing their songs (dog-themed of course). Then there were treats and toys (Oh boy!), primarily donated by Dog Perfect, the neighborhood dog emporium. While their humans enjoyed their own treats of free hot dogs, cookies, and beverages, the pooches sniffed and wagged in happy unison.

The highlight though was when MC’s Paul Weiner and Gayle Maraval announced the pups’ names as they proudly strutted past the crowd. We learned that the Stickley's 2-year-old Goldendoodle, Waffles, heads the welcome committee on Flicker Field Circle.

And Shooter, the Eason’s' 3-year-old Parsons Jack Russell, runs palm rat patrol every day on the Nature Trail. Katy Leidl’s14-year old Italian greyhound Kip

has been clocked running faster than cars are allowed to travel in The Landings.

The largest dog in the parade was the Ladle’s 125-lb Cane Corso named Charlie. He and his brother Percy, a boxer, can open doors and let themselves in and out of the house at will. We also learned that Stacy Hodgins’ Shihtsu Jasper, who rocked a red Chinese dragon coat for the parade, likes being carried upside down so he can view the world in reverse. Gerri Broderick’s Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Tayto loves to ride in mom’s bicycle basket.

The smallest dog in the parade this year was Jane Carpenter’s 12-lb Ha-shi-po Winston, who jauntily sported a tiny cowboy hat and neckerchief for the parade. Fern Vaughan’s parti-colored Standard Poodle Skyler showed off the sun goggles he wears when riding in the convertible.

Char Lindner’s 14-year-old Australian minilabradoodle who regally wore a pink princess crown, gushes to her mom over all the 4-legged friends she has in The Landings.

The cleverest costume was worn by Roscoe. His parents, Amy and Lou Grossman, are from Philly so they created an eagle outfit from angel wings and an Eagle’s logo for the 9-year-old rescue Corgi/Jack Russell mix.

In addition to the dog-lovers and dogs, local businesses also participated in the fun, making it a true community event. But it could not have taken place without all the volunteers. Thanks to committee members Dawn Drost, Renata and Larry Hackman, Stacy Hodgins, Joelle McCoy, Ed Hongosh and Fern Vaughan. Plus, many more helped on the day of the Parade. Kudos go to musicians Peter McHugh and Gary Eason, for their delightful serenade.

Thanks both to Stephanie Church of Coldwell Banker, and Dog Perfect for their generous supply of treats meant for both humans and dogs. Dog Perfect made sure every doggie went home with a toy and a bag of all natural treats. And finally, thanks to the generous doglovers who contributed to Satchel’s Last Resort Rescue and Sanctuary, a true no-kill shelter, which turns many difficult cases into adoptable dogs and cats.

A Caribbean Night at The Landings’ Pool

The LRC Caribbean-themed Pool Party is undoubtedly the season’s most popular event. The weather this year was spectacular, if a little cool. Most attendees brought along an extra layer to ward off post-sunset chills.

Keeping with tradition, the sensational Lisa Rott rocked out the dance tunes at pool’s edge with her talented bandmates, now called “Lisa and the AllTerrain Band.” Many said it’s the best band in all of Sarasota. And to prove the point, the dancing went non- stop until they pulled the plug at 9 p.m.

A new feature of this year’s extravaganza was a

drone flown by Jeff Packman to capture some fun aerial shots of the party scene below. Rick Waller was the photographer on land, snapping the pictures that give us fond memories of our club events.

The party was successful thanks to careful planning by LRC Social Committee’s Ingrid Wiemer, Olivia Lorenz, and Paige Packman. Connie and Jeff Stevens, Dawn and Nelson Smith, Ron and Karmen Pierce, Gayle and Philippe Maraval, Ellen Demos, and Heidi Nightingale also lent a hand. As always, Kevin’s highly capable team rounded out the set-up crew.
