Here we are in the Dog Days of Summertypical heat, humidity, and rain. Fortunately, as of the time of me writing this piece, we have had NO hurricanes or tropical storms.

The summer so far has been relatively quiet activity-wise; however, the Memorial Day and 4th of July events were very well attended, with everyone having a blast. Some of the Social Clubs had potlucks, and “Jaws” paid us a visit on Movie Nite; unfortunately it was shown in the Clubhouse and not at the pool as planned because of lightning in the area.

Maintenance of the park prevailed as the Shuffleboard and Pickleball Courts were

Hi Tara Woods Homeowners,

refurbished, work on the Pool Deck and all flat surfaces around the Clubhouse was started, the fountains were all working until they weren’t, the piano was tuned, Kitchen repairs were done, and painting of the curbs was completed. So, when all of you snowbirds return, we will be ready to welcome you as we start a very ambitious 2025-26 season. We will commence Labor Day festivities and go from there. HOA meetings will resume in September.

Until next time, all of you snowbirds enjoy your time with your family and friends up north. Those of us who have stayed put, stay cool.

A DAY OF CARING

Watch for it in the October issue of The Columns!!!

What? The Annual letter starting the Day of Caring Donation months will be inserted in the October issue of The Columns.

Day of Caring?? Thirty years ago, Pine Lakes, Lake Fairways, and Tara Woods decided to raise money for local charities together.

How? We send out a letter with an envelope attached in the October issue of The Columns for you to send a donation. Tara Woods has a Quarter Auction on Thursday, November 6th, this year. All proceeds go towards the Day of Caring.

What Charities? Fort Myers Rescue Mission, The Elizabeth Kay Galeana Center (both in Fort Myers) and Holiday 4 Heroes (in North Fort Myers).

What is the money used for? Even though all the charities do many things for the needy, our donations to both the Fort Myers Rescue Mission and the Elizabeth Kay Galeana Center go towards Holiday meals for needy families. Holiday4Heroes uses our donations for “Making Christmas Merry for Military Families” in the areas that need help.

Time frame: We collect donations until mid-December.

Questions: Chris Olson, Chairperson, 715-851-4681

Quarter Auction: Save those Quarters! November 6th is the date!! More info to follow.

ATTENTION VETERANS!

Many of you are not aware of USAA Auto and Home Insurance specifically designed for veterans AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS: spouses, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, etc. I can attest to the fact that the savings are substantial (for myself and my family) since becoming a member several years ago.

You just need to call: 1-800-531-8722 to enroll.

Investing With Heart: Find a Financial Advisor Who Shares Your Values

When it comes to managing your money, there’s more to consider than just the bottom line. For many people, investing isn’t only about building wealth or reaching goals — it’s about making sure their dollars support charitable causes and principles that are in line with their closely held values. Whether your focus is on protecting the planet, aligning with your faith or giving back to your community, a financial advisor who understands your values can help you build a portfolio that reflects what matters to you. Here’s how to help find a good fit.

Know What You Stand For: Before you start searching for a financial advisor, take a moment to reflect on your own values. Are you passionate about sustainability? Do you want your investments to avoid companies that conflict with your faith? Is charitable giving a big part of your life and something you want to incorporate into your financial strategy? Make a list of your top priorities. Understanding what drives you can help make it easier to find a financial advisor who shares and respects your vision.

Do Your Homework: Once you’ve clarified your goals, start looking for financial advisors who focus on values-based investing. Terms like “socially responsible investing” (SRI), “faith-based investing,” “impact investing” or “ESG” (which stands for environmental, social, and governance) are good keywords to use during your search. Browse financial advisor websites and check their credentials. Some may highlight their experience with sustainable funds or philanthropic planning. Look for signs that they’re comfortable helping clients invest with a conscience.

Ask the Right Questions: After narrowing your list, schedule a few introductory discussions, which can be done in person or remotely, depending on your preference. These chats are your chance to learn more about how the financial advisor works and whether they’ll be a good fit. Ask about their investment approach:

• Do they offer portfolios with a focus on ESG or faith-based filters?

• Have they worked with clients who have similar values to yours?

• How do they assess charitable giving strategies or donor-advised funds?

• Do they know the complex tax rules associated with charitable giving? Listen closely to the questions they ask of you. Are they truly interested in what matters to you? Do they understand your values and priorities? Also, consider their communication style. Will they keep you updated regularly? Are they open to collaboration when you want to adjust your plan?

Trust Your Instincts: Choosing a financial advisor is a personal decision. Beyond their professional qualifications, you want someone who listens well and respects your goals. Don’t hesitate to meet with several financial advisors before making your choice. The right person will make you feel understood and supported, both financially and personally. Ideally, you and your financial advisor will forge a long-term relationship that spans the changes and milestones in your life. As the details of your financial strategy may change, you’ll still want to hold onto your values in your investments.

Investing With Purpose: Whether you’re hoping to reduce your carbon footprint, stay true to your faith or make the world a better place through giving, you don’t have to choose between your values and your financial future. Many good financial advisors can help you do both.

Taking the time to find someone who shares your vision can help you feel confident that your investment strategy can align with your personal beliefs.

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH by Sam Topping

“The meeting of preparation with opportunity generates the offspring we call luck.”

NOVEMBER 6TH, 2025

5TH ANNUAL QUARTER AUCTION

TABLES WILL BE SET UP TO SEAT 8. WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR RESERVATION, PLEASE LET US KNOW HOW MANY WILL BE AT YOUR TABLE. WE MAY HAVE TO ADD PEOPLE IF YOU HAVE LESS THAN 8.

CRAFTERS – SUE COOK IS ACCEPTING DONATIONS IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DONATE SOME OF YOUR TALENTED WORK.

ALSO, GIFT CARDS AND BOTTLES OF WINE ARE ALWAYS WELCOME.

I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP WITH THE AUCTION. PLEASE CALL ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO HELP. IT TAKES VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESS. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

All proceeds from the Quarter Auction go directly to the Day of Caring.

“PRESENTED BY THE DAY OF CARING, A TWHOA BOARD-RELATED GROUP” WHAT IS A QUARTER AUCTION?

What the heck is a Quarter Auction? Well, it is a raffle-style auction, not a traditional auction. As a quarter auction participant, you’ll want to arrive at “doors open” time – bring a supply of quarters and your friends! We recommend a couple rolls of quarters.

When you arrive, you’ll get your bid paddle. When you rent your paddle(s), a poker chip matching your paddle number(s) will go into a container used to draw winning numbers throughout the event.

You will also have an opportunity to visit the individual vendor tables to register for door prizes. The vendors will also have cash and carry items for sale!

When the auction begins, each auction item will be presented and “auctioned”, one by one. You will use your quarters and paddles to bid, but no fear! You do not try to out-bid others, but rather bid the requested number of quarters (typically 2-3) on the item for a chance to win that item! The retail value of the item determines the number of quarters required per paddle to bid.

Once you toss the required number of quarters into bowls on the table, and the bowls are collected, you raise your paddle in the air. We will begin drawing numbers from the numbered chips matching the paddles. If the announcer calls your number and if you have placed the bid, you win! If the number called wasn’t played, numbers continue to be pulled until a number is called for someone who had bid and had their paddle in the air! Then on to the next auction item. Bid on everything! A great way to potentially squirrel away items in your gift closet for that unexpected hostess, thank you, or birthday gift.

Usually there are 2 auction rounds with a break between 2 rounds – so make sure you’ve registered for the door prizes. The auction rounds are followed by the door prize round.

ENTERTAINING NEWS

As summer unfolds, many of us are basking in the long sunny days and taking a well-deserved break from our busy lives. However, The Entertainers are hard at work, preparing for their upcoming play, “Rex’s Exes” by Jones Hope Wooten, the same writer who brought us “Red Velvet Cake Wars” a few years ago. This new production is set in the charming town of Sweetgum, Texas, featuring beloved characters from the previous play and introducing some new faces. Putting on a play is no small feat. It requires the dedication and effort of our entire ensemble throughout the year leading up to opening night. Our actors are diligently learning their lines, while our backstage crew is busy designing and creating the sets. It’s a challenging task, but one that The Entertainers embrace wholeheartedly to ensure a fantastic performance for our audience.

As you enjoy the rest of your summer, remember to keep things cool and look forward to the delightful entertainment that awaits you with “Rex’s Exes”. The play will take place March 13th, 14th, and 15th, 2026. Submitted by Lesley Krauss – pklesley@icloud.com

AED’S LOCATIONS

If you’re wondering what an AED is – and why they seem to be located in most offices and public buildings, you’re not alone. In fact, because these devices are now commonly available, more people than ever before are curious about them. So – just what is an AED? An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

It’s a sophisticated, yet easy-to-use, medical device that can analyze the heart’s rhythm and, if necessary, deliver an electrical shock, or defibrillation, to help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm. Please make sure the GREEN light on the AED is flashing consistently. If it is not, please notify the Tara Woods Office, or a CERT team member.

This AED is located at the north entrance of the Clubhouse.
This AED is located in the Exercise Room off the Pool.
This AED is located in the Craft Room near the Tennis Courts.
