€uroStar Evaluation Explanation Page
Important: The Pedigree Information printed in this catalogue is as supplied by or on behalf of the breeder. The responsibility for the accuracy of the information therefore rests solely with the breeder and not Sheep Ireland.
Evaluations should never be the only tool you use when selecting animals for breeding. Animals must also be examined to ensure the animal is also physically correct; an animal that is not physically correct (ie. mouth, feet, etc.) cannot compensate for this fault regardless of its evaluation and should be avoided for breeding purposes. See below how to interpret the €uroStar catalogue.
€uroStars – How to interpret them
• Each star represents where the animal ranks on each index in 20% bounds
• One star represents the bottom 20% of the breed for that trait
• Five star represents the top 20% of the breed for that trait
• The higher the stars, the higher the predicted profitability of that animal
Animals that only have the outline of a star represent animals that have within flock evaluations, this means the star rating of these animals cannot be compared to any other animals from a different flock.

• This figure indicates more precisely where the animals rank within the breed. eg. Top 16% (see example below)
• This is displayed with a shaded line, the further to the right these are on the scale, the better its position within the breed.
Acc% (Accuracy%)
• This figure is very important as it represents the amount of data behind each evaluation. Where Acc% is low, much less emphasis should be placed on the evaluation, and vice versa.
• Accuracy is displayed for the Replacement & Terminal Indices. It is not displayed for the four sub-traits. If an animal has high accuracy on Replacement & Terminal, it will be high accuracy across all traits.

1) Replacement (€3.44) – If a farmer desires a ram to breed both lambs both for slaughter and replacement ewe lambs then they should select a ram based on this index. The bulk of this index is a combination of Lamb Survivability, Days to Slaughter, No. of lambs born & Daughters milk. The € value beside the index represents the difference in profit that each lamb sired from this ram will have. This € value is an across breed value, so different breeds can be compared to each other.
2) Terminal (€2.86) – If a farmer desires a ram to breed only lambs for slaughter then they should select a ram based on this index. The bulk of this index is a combination of Lamb Survivability and Days to Slaughter. The € value beside the index represents the difference in profit that each lamb sired from this ram will have. This € value is an across breed value, so different breeds can be compared to each other.
3) Lamb Survivability – This ranks animals based on lambing ease and lamb survival rate. Every positive % point on this index is an extra lamb surviving to 40 days and vice versa.
4) Days to Slaughter – This ranks animals on their genetic ability to grow. The index associated with this trait represents the difference in the predicted number of days required for the progeny of this ram to reach the desired slaughtered weight compared with other animals of the same breed.
5) No. of Lambs Born – This ranks animals based on the predicted prolificacy of the females from this animal compared with other animals of the same breed
6) Daughters Milk – This ranks animals based on the predicted milking performance of their daughters compared with other animals of the same breed.

CONDITIONS OF SALE
1. The highest bidder to be the purchaser subject to paragraph 5. If any dispute shall arise between two or more bidders, then the lot in dispute shall be put up again and resold, or alternatively the auctioneer may declare the purchaser.
2. Purchasers are to give their name and place of abode, and may be asked to pay a 20% deposit in part payment for each lot purchased, or the whole of the purchase price, immediately or on the fall of the hammer if required.
3. All lots to be cleared away at the buyer’s expense at the close of the sale. This is at the risk of the purchaser from the time the lot is sold and to be taken with all faults and errors of description.
4. Purchasers, at this sale not complying with the above conditions, will be subject without further notice to have their lots resold whether by public auction or by private contract. The deposit money shall be forfeited and any deficiency with all expenses attending such resale to be made good by the defaulters at this present sale.
5. No sheep male or female will be sold at less than €300. Buyers will be charged a commission fee of 5% of the sale price.
6. The first 6 lots in the male and the female section if unsold can be re-run after the first 30 lots in each corresponding category.
7. All animals are sold as they stand and the purchaser is deemed to have examined each animal and fully satisfied himself/herself about the sheep prior to the sale and purchasing same.
8. The auctioneers and sellers have described the sheep to the best of their ability and knowledge and any implied or express opinions, warranty or representation, statutory or otherwise howsoever, whether to the capabilities of the sheep for stock or otherwise is hereby excluded.
9. All sheep will be sold in the order that they appear in the catalogue.
10. All lots are on the market from the first bid – when the auctioneer’s hammer falls the vendor may refuse or accept the final bid. No further bids are allowed.
11. Males that are bid to €2000, Females that are bid to €1500 but unsold by the vendor, will automatically be deducted 5% commission by the auctioneer.
12. All ownership of sheep regardless of purchasing online or ringside take place when full payment is transferred to Auctioneers. From the fall of the hammer, all bids taken online or ringside are final. Lots purchased online must be paid for within 30 minutes of purchase.
IMPORTANT
All sheep are subject to veterinary inspection prior to penning. The sales inspectors will inspect and cull any sheep, which in their opinion, have been brushed or trimmed or the fleece interfered with in any way, save for the squaring of the tail. All sheep must be identified in correspondence with Society and Dept of Agriculture identification details and requirements. Sheep, which have not passed this pre-inspection, must not go through the sales ring. All sheep passing the pre-sale inspection must be put through the sales ring, unless the sheep is obviously unwell.
We request that breeders observe the rule for the duration of this and all other Society Sales that fleeces are not further interfered with, i.e., brushing or trimming etc, the only exception being washing of the face & legs.
