Conditions of Sale

1. The stock will be sold in the order in which they appear in the catalogue and the highest bidder on each lot on the fall of the hammer will be declared the purchaser. If any dispute shall arise between two or more bidders then the lot in dispute will be put up again and resold, or the purchaser may be declared by the auctioneers.

2. The pedigree and description of the lots are believed to be correct, but are not intended as a warranty and therefore shall be taken with all faults and errors of description.

3. All animals are at the risk of vendor before sale and the purchaser after the sale. The auctioneer accepts no responsibility for damage or injury caused to the animal in the sales yard or in its precinct thereof.

4. The service dates, while believed to be correct, cannot however be guaranteed.

5. All lots will be sold in euro. Purchaser will be charged a fee of 5% of sale price.

6. Purchasers shall, if and when required, give their names and address to the auctioneers and shall if required, pay to the auctioneers the purchase money for each lot at the fall of the hammer, or so soon thereafter as the auctioneers may require. Any sheep purchased online must be paid for via bank transfer or card.

7. Purchaser paying by cheque must be prepared, if required, to produce banker’s reference.

8. No lots shall be removed from the sale premises until a written delivery order has been given by or on behalf of the auctioneers.

9. Each lot shall, at the purchasers expense, be removed from the sale premises within a reasonable time after the close of the day’s sale. With the exception of pre arranged delivery by the organisers of the sale.

10. All statement in the catalogue or made by the auctioneer at the time of sale relating to the animal are believed to be correct. No sale shall be invalidated by reason of any defect of faults in any of the animals by reason of any of the animals being incorrectly described in the catalogue, or by the Auctioneer in the ring, and no compensation shall be paid in respect of any faults or errors of description.

BALLYPIERCE FLOCK

Ballypierce texels was established in 2015 after seen the huge benefits of using texels in the commerical flock. So foundation ewes were purchased from Thornville Foundry Enniscrone Clewbay and Donnelly flocks.

The flock jointed sheep Ireland in 2016. A huge emphasis was put at the start to bred sheep with size power conformation carcass and correctness. In recent years the flock has enjoyed success winning 1st prize ewe lamb and reserve female champion in blessingston 2020. Sire of ewe lamb was Ballypierce Champion retained son of UVI1701321 by Auldhouseburn Bullitt. Champion has bred ewe lambs to 1400 and 1200. UVI1701321 has bred males to 1400 and 1200. There is 3 daughter and 3 granddaughters of UVI1701321 in sale These are the first daughter been put forward for sale. All vaccinated Heptivac P and Dectomax. Fluke and worm dosed and Agri Lloyd liquithrive. We’d like to wish both venders and buyers the best of luck.

KNOCKHILL FLOCK

KNOCKHILL FLOCK. The knockhill flock was established in 2017 we purchased ewes from Ballyahone Milnbank and Annakisha with some new blood added from hexel . Knock and Teiglum HBR 16 00744 our ballyahone ewe she is the dam of knockhill Engel whom sold for 8.5k at the premier sale in blessington 2021and he went on to be male and overall champion at the Irish texels society all ireland championship 2022.we had good premier sale in blessington this year with our four lambs selling very well. Four of five entries are from Milnbank ewe which we purchased for 2600 at the Christmas star sale in Carlisle she breed really well for us with granddaughter beens novice champion in clonmel show and overall champion in Tullow show. All ewes have breed vaccinated for Heptivac p Toxo and Enzo.

Service sire Mildlock Dapper who has breed really well with lamb selling to 8.5k. Service sire Knockhill Evander full brother to the 8.5k Knockhill Engel a really good correct sheep very similar to Engel.

Service sire Mullan Extra special a special son of Batman with daughter selling to 4 k.

THORNVILLE TEXELS

Thornville Texel’s was founded 21 years ago. Our main success has come in recent years after we invested in strong female lines, the most notable of these females would be “The Ettrick Ewe” she has left her mark on the flock with her first daughter receiving the Reserve Female Champion at Blessington Premier Sale. She sold

for €2,000gns to Oberstown Texels where she bred to €2,200, we were lucky to purchase a half share of this ewe back and we have her granddaughter in the sale today. The Ettrick ewe has also bred son’s to €3,000, grandsons to €4,400, €2,400, €2,100, €2000, €1,400, €1,100, €1,000. She has also left her mark in the show ring with her descendants including the All Ireland Champion 2017, Premier Sale Female Champion and Overall Champion 2016, Reserve Male Premier Sale Champion 2018. Her descendants featured in the 1st prize premier sale ‘Group of 3’ in the three consecutive years 2015,2016 and 2017. We are offering a number of females going back to her for sale today. Our greatest success to date is seeing our genetics preforming well for their new owners. Some recent success accolades includes Liam Dillon’s Reserve Overall Champion in Blessington 2018 that sold for 4,000, Thornville Alberto winning Reserve Male Champion title at the 2018 All Ireland for the Greenhill flock. Sean McGee’s Thornville Yogi Bear Son which sold for €1,200 at the LambPlus sale in 2018, Thornville Ace producing the Reserve North East Champion for Pearse Leonard in 2018 and Springbridge Winning Novice Ram Lamb at the 2017 All Ireland with an offspring out of a Thornville Sire and Dam. This was also added to this year with Ballyperice Champion being the sire of the Reserve Female champion in Blessington. Champion was bought in the belly of a Thornville ewe in 2018. We are selling 3 maternal sisters to Champion at this sale. We are very happy with this years batch of gimmers and after a successful flush we are offering some of our best gimmers at the inaugural South East Stars sale today

SEEFINN FLOCK

We took the plunge into the Texel breed as Texel rams were being used heavily on our hill flock for many years as we admired them a lot for the job they were doing on breeding Hiltex lambs for us, hardy at lambing, quick on their feet and fast growth rates. So we decided to take the leap and start the purchase of our own small flock of pedigree Texel ewes.

With keeping numbers small, we focus on keeping only the best performing ewes along with the best bloodlines. Through the years we have purchased ewes from some of the top flocks in Ireland and also across the water. We have purchased ewes from Plasucha, Usk Vale, Thornville, Lawn and Annakisha.

CHAPELIZOD TEXELS

The Chapelizod flock of Texels was founded over 30 years ago with foundation females coming from the Ballybur flock. Our Texel ewes are run commercially lambing in March with the aim of producing hardy shearling rams produced off grass only, and mainly sold off farm.

We have been flock recording with Sheep Ireland since the start and focus on the Terminal index and in breeding long and active functional rams for our regular customers.

KILCLAMMON TEXELS

Kilclammon texels was established in 2006 with a view to breeding rams for our own commercial flock. At this early stage we put a strong emphasis on breeding sheep with size power and carcase along with exceptionally high growth rates. Over the years females have been bought in from some of the top flocks here and in the UK. In recent years the flock has enjoyed success in the sales and show circuits. Such as breeding Kilclammon Brody (sold for 5k and was 2019 sire of the year), along with females to 2.5k in 2019. The most influential and consistent line in our flock comes from a home bred ewe LDE 09007 (dam of 14004) who goes back to a ewe purchased from Thornville Texels, this line has bred an All-Ireland champion in 2012, reserve All Ireland female 2017, premier sale female champion and reserve overall in 2018. Males have sold to 2.8K off this line and females to 4K, 2.4k, 2k and many more over 1k. 4 of our gimmers are off this line.

All ewes have been vaccinated for: Heptivac P, Toxo and Enzo

Service sire: Silverhill Ecstatic

All 5 of our gimmers put forward are scanned inlamb to Ecstatic. He was a joint 5K purchase last year at Blessington Premier Sale, sired by the 2020 Premier sale champion Greenhill Dance Monkey. He is a well built sheep with a super carcase and skin which he has bred through to his lambs in his first season and has very high figures with Sheep Ireland: 5 stars Terminal Top 3% 5 stars Replacement Top 3% Top 1% days to slaughter Lastly we would like to wish all purchasers and customers in 2022 the very best of luck in 2023!

TREEMORE TEXELS

The Treemore flock was established in 2005. Our aim was to breed top quality rams for the commercial sheep farmer. In recent years, with the addition of top bloodlines from some of the best Irish and UK flocks, we have built on our initial aim and produce sheep for pedigree breeding also.

Our most successful female lines to date include BYZ1718343 (Auldhouseburn Annabelle), purchased at the Northern Stars in-lamb sale for £5,200 jointly with the Thornville flock. Four direct daughters and two grand-daughters are among our consignment for this sale. She has bred the Reserve Supreme All Ireland Champion 2019 with her natural reared ewe lamb who went on to be National Livestock Show Champion later that year. Another Annabelle daughter topped the sale for us last year, selling for €3,800 to the Corryhill flock of Malachy McMeel. One of our other successful female lines is LIG1700458 (Corbo). This ewe was purchased from Adrian Liggett of Corbo texels for her power with great carcass conformation and correctness. She has been a consistent female breeder, with several daughters selling for an average of €1050, to top flocks such as the Ravensdale flock of John Wehrly. Three daughters of this ewe are included in the sale.

Silverhill Ecstatic: Jointly purchased for €5,000 last year. He has bred excellently across all flocks, breeding great conformation and extreme growth rate in his progeny.

Thornville Elvis: Purchased at Blessington for €4,600 from the Thornville flock. He has bred exceptionally well in his first year, breeding the first prize Irish sired ram lamb at Blessington Premier Sale selling for €2,000.

Mullan Extra Special: Used by kind permission from Brian Hanthorn, Mullan flock NI. He is by the 100K Batman, he was used for his power with lots of character.

Important: The Pedigree Information printed in this catalogue is as supplied by or on behalf of the breeder. The responsibility for the accuracy of the information therefore rests solely with the breeder and not Sheep Ireland.

Evaluations should never be the only tool you use when selecting animals for breeding. Animals must also be examined to ensure the animal is also physically correct; an animal that is not physically correct (ie. mouth, feet, etc.) cannot compensate for this fault regardless of its evaluation and should be avoided for breeding purposes. See below how to interpret the €uroStar catalogue.

€uroStars – How to interpret them

• Each star represents where the animal ranks on each index in 20% bounds

• One star represents the bottom 20% of the breed for that trait

• Five star represents the top 20% of the breed for that trait

• The higher the stars, the higher the predicted profitability of that animal

Animals that only have the outline of a star represent animals that have within flock evaluations, this means the star rating of these animals cannot be compared to any other animals from a different flock.

• This figure indicates more precisely where the animals rank within the breed. eg. Top 16% (see example below)

• This is displayed with a shaded line, the further to the right these are on the scale, the better its position within the breed.

Acc% (Accuracy%)

• This figure is very important as it represents the amount of data behind each evaluation. Where Acc% is low, much less emphasis should be placed on the evaluation, and vice versa.

• Accuracy is displayed for the Replacement & Terminal Indices. It is not displayed for the four sub-traits. If an animal has high accuracy on Replacement & Terminal, it will be high accuracy across all traits.

1) Replacement (€3.44) – If a farmer desires a ram to breed both lambs both for slaughter and replacement ewe lambs then they should select a ram based on this index. The bulk of this index is a combination of Lamb Survivability, Days to Slaughter, No. of lambs born & Daughters milk. The € value beside the index represents the difference in profit that each lamb sired from this ram will have. This € value is an across breed value, so different breeds can be compared to each other.

2) Terminal (€2.86) – If a farmer desires a ram to breed only lambs for slaughter then they should select a ram based on this index. The bulk of this index is a combination of Lamb Survivability and Days to Slaughter. The € value beside the index represents the difference in profit that each lamb sired from this ram will have. This € value is an across breed value, so different breeds can be compared to each other.

3) Lamb Survivability – This ranks animals based on lambing ease and lamb survival rate. Every positive % point on this index is an extra lamb surviving to 40 days and vice versa.

4) Days to Slaughter – This ranks animals on their genetic ability to grow. The index associated with this trait represents the difference in the predicted number of days required for the progeny of this ram to reach the desired slaughtered weight compared with other animals of the same breed.

5) No. of Lambs Born – This ranks animals based on the predicted prolificacy of the females from this animal compared with other animals of the same breed.

6) Daughters Milk – This ranks animals based on the predicted milking performance of their daughters compared with other animals of the same breed.

Council reserves the right to refuse an application for membership.

Applications need to be received by Society Secretary prior to 31st December in the year of application. Flocks MUST be established prior to lambs being born to birth notify and subsequently register them and so the breeder will be eligible for participation in the following year’s Society Sales. Applications received after April 30th will be considered in the autumn for the next calendar year.
