The Larahirl Flock is well associated with Irish Texel sheep having been established since 1985 and taking numerous championships along the way with Culdaff and Greenstar flocks being added in recent years. We are offering another strong batch of gimmers from bloodlines from the heart of the flocks that we think will definitely go on and do a job. Fancy that was purchased in Lanark this year for £16,000 gns for his power, bone, correctness and beautiful white hair, from one of the best pens in the mart he has continued to mature into a massive sheep and eagerly await offspring.

The Hillcrest flock was established in 2000 as we wanted to produce the topquality Texel’s which we were seeking out in the market at that time. To improve our bloodlines over the last few years, we have been using prominent sires such as £17k Sportsmans Cannon Ball (4 daughters included in today’s sale) and £4.8k AHB Daimler (3 daughters included in today’s sale).

All the ewes for the sale have been covered with Enzo and Toxo. We wish all our prospective customers the best in advance.

STONEPARK FERRARI - SERVICE SIRE FOR THE HILLCREST FLOCK 2022

Our Service Sire for all the gimmers on offer is €3.2k Stonepark Ferrari (purchased at Blessington ’22). Ferrari is sired by £30k Teilgium Cinnamon and out of a £2.5k Charben Dam and we are really looking forward to seeing his progeny is 2023.

The Shannagh flock

The Shannagh flock has been breeding Texel’s for over 30 years, and consistently features amongst the top averages at local and society sales, with notable sales including Shannagh Whistler €2600, Shannagh Won O Won €3200, and several other rams sold in the €2-2500 bracket, with the flock winning 1st prize group of 3 at Blessington in 2018.

Our policy has always been to use the best available genetics within the breed, and this year’s consignment is testament to that.

Clara and Isle Flocks

The flock was established in 2000 with the purchase of females from the Larahirl Flock, Knock Flock McKeague Bros and Samuel Chesney, Northern Ireland. The first highlight was Raphoe 2008, where Clara Orlando was Overall Champion and sold for €1,600.

In Blessington 2014, we had the Overall Champion with Clara Vegas which went onto sell for €6,500. Continuing on that year with 1st & 2nd prizes in our local sale in Raphoe.

We continue to invest in the best genetics possible including stock rams such as the £16,000 Procter’s Cocktail, £11,000 Strathbogie Yabba Dabba Do, Larahirl Alphonsos for his size and power at €5,700 and £10,000 with the Strathbogie Uno who bred extremely well for our flock and who was the sire of Clara Vegas in 2014. 2022 was a great year with Clara Fandango winning the Ram Lamb Class at the All Ireland going on to win the Overall at Blessington Premiere Sale and selling for €13,000.

Last year was a huge success for the flock at the Carrick Dazzlers, as well as the first time selling, we have eight gimmers forward for this sale in 2022.

Urris Flock

The Urris Flock was established in 2004. The flock has bred some great sheep over the years including the Raphoe supreme champion in 2014 and the champion Inlamb ewe in 2014. The highlight for the flock has been breeding the €12,000 Urris Crew in 2019 who was the top price at the premier sale that year. Ewes are Inlamb to Cherryvale Frankel and Quarry Fat Boy who was bought at the NI Premier sale for 1.6k this year.

Hillview Flock

The Hillview Flock was Established in 2012. In 2014 they bred both male and female reserve champion in the Finn valley show. In 2018 they bred male champion and reserve overall champion at the Donegal Championship in Carndonagh. That lamb went on to sell for €2,000 in Blessington with his full brother selling for €1,300 on the same day. In 2019 they purchased the top price ewe in Blessington for 3,300 from the Larahirl flock. In 2020 this ewe bred the 3rd prize Ram Lamb in Blessington which went onto sell for €1,100. IN 2021 the Hillview Flock sold Hillview Eloi for €8,500 in Blessington. Ewes are Inlamb to Cherryvale Frankel and Quarry Fat Boy who was bought at the NI Premier sale for 1.6k this year.

Mageestown and Glenparke Flocks

Mageestown and Glenparke pedigrees In 2002 the Mageestown flock purchased five females from the late James McClean and his Callen flock with the aim to produce top quality hardy rams for commercial farmers while keeping the characteristics of the Texel in mind we have always tried to improve year on year and so far things are working out with the combination of our Glenparke flock Est 2016 purchasing some top females from Irish and UK flocks we have made great progress in recent years with many rosettes collected from sales picking up reserve champion at Raphoe 1st sale 2019 selling for 1130gns and with a very successful year in 2022 selling many rams to commercial and pedigree farmers with one of our lambs Glenparke Fifty-Fifty picking up the overall champion in Raphoe premier sale selling to breeders Victor Chestnut and Robert John Calvin in Northern Ireland for 1800 or pen of lambs going on to pick up two 2nd placed rosettes and one third placed rosette we had a fantastic year we also picked up 5th in the all-Ireland with a home bred ewe on or first every day out showing or Texel’s and having enjoyed success at the Premier sale in Blessington 2021 picking up 4th in a strong novice class going on to sell for 1600 and selling many females over the years most notably one of our best ewe lambs from the Mageestown flock selling to local breeder Hugh Mooney at this year’s summer stunners sale in Stranorlar mart selling for 1160gns and of course last year we had great success at or 2nd Inlamb sale in Carrick with a full clearance and many of or females selling into 4 figure sums and as with our rams the females are also improving year on year . The service sire used widely within both flocks this year is Greenstar fast track purchased at the Premier sale in Blessington he’s by the 100k Sportsman Batman and was purchased for his size and correctness he also has all the characteristics that we look for in a Texel.

Collarrock and Clarcarrick Flocks

The Collarrock flock was established in 2009 with the purchase of females at our local Inlamb sale in Raphoe with the aim of producing commercial rams for use on our commercial flock and for sale to local farmers. Size, carcase, and correctness have always been the main attributes looked for in stock. With the addition of the Clarcarrick flock in 2013 and the use of AI and embryo transfer we believe are flock has come a long way. The addition of some select females from the Larahirl, Hillcrest, Derrylahan and Oberstown flocks has greatly improved the flock. The first female to leave her stamp on the flock was YZI15007 a Tophill Union Jack Daughter purchased from the Hillcrest Flock, she has left some exceptional females in the flock with great breed character and easy fleshing traits. There will be several granddaughters for sale from this ewe at this sale. We are offering females from our best lines and feel they will go on and do a job for their new owners we wish all purchases at the sale the best of luck. All ewes are in the Heptivac p system.

Purchased at the Ballymena premier sale in 2021 from the lakeview flock sired by the renowned Castlecairn doodlebug who has bred lambs to 75k with his dam being an Auldhouseburn ewe, we bought him for his carcase, bone, skin and great breed characteristics and are very pleased with his first crop of lambs this year. Service sire to lots 31, 32 and 7.

Fachell Dodgy Dave

Used after seeing an outstanding batch of females in the Aurlas Texel flock, Dodgy Dave has bred ewe lambs to 7k and ram lambs to 15k. Service sire to lot 8

Applications need to be received by Society Secretary prior to 31st December in the year of application. Conditions of Sale

1. Highest bidder to be purchaser subject to reserve price. If any dispute arises between two or more bidders, the lot to be put up again and resold or auctioneer may declare the purchaser.

2. The pedigree, history and description of each animal shall be guaranteed and warranted to be correct in all particulars, by the person whose name appears as Vendor but such animal shall be sold, subject to all faults. No liability whatsoever shall be undertaken by the Auctioneer, for the statements appearing in the catalogue. The Vendors who supply such statements are alone responsible for any error or misrepresentation.

3. All animals are sold as they stand and the purchaser is deemed to have examined each animal and fully satisfied himself/herself as to the correctness of any animal for which they have bid, which shall be their responsibility at the fall of the hammer.

4. Service dates are indicated in the catalogue but no guarantee can be given as to the absolute accuracy of these dates or sires used. Also, ewes which are scanned in lamb on the day of sale cannot be guaranteed in lamb beyond the sale date nor can the number of lambs which they carry be guaranteed whatsoever.

5. All lots to become the absolute property of purchaser at the fall of the hammer.

6. The auctioneer acts as agent for the vendors and any action taken by a purchaser must be against the vendors and not the auctioneer or livestock mart committee.

7. Sheep will be sold in the order in which they appear in the catalogue.

8. All purchases are made on the distinct and clear understanding that no warranty or guarantee whatsoever is given and shall be in the risk of the purchaser at the fall of the hammer.

9. Purchasers not complying with these conditions will be liable to have their lots resold by public auction.
