Patricia Hurl’s Irish Gothic exhibition marked the public launch of our multi-year partnership with Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA).
Backed by a guitar, bouzouki, bass bouzouki, and four harmonicas, folk legend Andy Irvine played two sold out solo shows in his first NYC outing since 2016.
Arts, we reached a new milestone in our journey to redevelop our original 51st Street home with an additional grant of €3 million from the Irish government.

Druid’s landmark 50th anniversary year culminated with the North American premiere of the company’s acclaimed revival of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame.
CRITIC’S PICK
“It’s awfully good to be in their company—both the bickering cohabitants of Samuel Beckett’s Endgame, and the fine, funny artists of Garry Hynes’s venerable Druid troupe.”
LAURA COLLINS-HUGHES, THE NEW YORK TIMES
“I share this award with all of us who carry this lovely, exhilarating gift and burden of being Irish in this world today.”
CONAN O’BRIEN
IAC raised a record-breaking $3.8 million at our 26th annual Spirit of Ireland Gala honoring six-time Emmywinning comedian and podcast host Conan O’Brien and Amgen Chairman and CEO Robert Bradway. The event also featured a special tribute to longtime honorary chair Loretta Brennan Glucksman, and the North American premiere of Irish traditional music supergroup BIIRD.

Recent Events
To accommodate demand, we moved our fall café concert featuring Joshua Burnside to the JL Greene Theatre, where the Belfast folk artist performed on the set of Endgame. The Devlin Café remained host to the popular Traditional Irish Sessions and Slow Sessions that draw dozens of local musicians every month.
Rita Dove and Paul Muldoon headlined our 16th annual PoetryFest, including free readings and talks all weekend long curated by Vona Groarke.

Brokentalkers Bellow
Part of Under the Radar
Written by Feidlim Cannon, Gary Keegan, and Danny O’Mahony
Performed by Danny O’Mahony, Gary Keegan, and Emily Kilkenny Roddy
January 7–18
For more info: irishartscenter.org
Danny O’Mahony—one of Ireland’s foremost accordionists and a man who has dedicated his life to the preservation of traditional Irish music— revisits pivotal moments in his life: his first taste of music as a child, the mentors who shaped him, and the unrelenting pursuit of artistic mastery that left room for little else. Alongside his sublime live playing, Bellow features an original electronic composition by Valgeir Sigurðsson and contemporary dance from Emily Kilkenny Roddy, heightening the tension between past and present. The result is an arresting, astonishingly beautiful theatre performance exploring the weight of tradition, the capriciousness of memory, and the artist’s need to express their true self.
“An ingenious odd couple. The pairing of a traditional musician with a maker of contemporary theatre…occupies a rarefied zone.”

North Star is a live music and spoken word performance inspired by the speeches of abolitionist Frederick Douglass during his historic visit to Belfast in 1845. Conceived and developed by Kwame Daniels, this collaborative, immersive standingroom show fuses artistic responses to Douglass’s experience from an eclectic range of contemporary artists—including hip-hop, jazz, gospel, electronic and classical musicians, poets, and young people from Belfast and New York—in a moving, provocative artistic journey rooted in Black cultures, and inspired by Douglass’s deep connection with Belfast.

Mufutau Yusuf Impasse
Performed by Mufutau Yusuf and Shafiki Sseggayi
April 23–25
“A terrific new work. I was knocked out . ” THE OBSERVER
For more info: irishartscenter.org
Mufutau Yusuf’s Impasse is a stunning, charged duet that seeks to understand the politics and representation of the Black body in contemporary western society. Mixing sounds of the choreographer’s Yoruba roots with Bach and hip-hop, the performers challenge historical racial projections of blackness— steeped in cultural imperialism, violence, exploitation, marginalization, and powerlessness—to reclaim its humanity and self-determination.

Fintan O’Toole and Sam McBride For and Against a United Ireland
Saturday, March 14
For more info: irishartscenter.org
“O’Toole and McBride have demonstrated the democratic necessity of debate.”
THE IRISH TIMES
Fintan O’Toole and Sam McBride discuss their new book in which each author presents arguments both for and against Irish unity. From the deceptively simple question “What does a ‘united Ireland’ actually mean?” to the hard-headed calculus of public services, taxation, and identity, O’Toole and McBride probe every fault line with forensic precision and intellectual flair.
The book was commissioned by the Arins Project which is a joint initiative of the University of Notre Dame’s Keough Naughton Institute for Irish Studies and the Royal Irish Academy.

Cauvery Madhavan in Conversation
The Inheritance
Thursday, April 16
For more info: irishartscenter.org
Arriving in Beara in 1986 and moving into a cottage he has just inherited, writer Marlo is amazed how quickly he feels at home. But the land carries its own inheritance. In the wildness of the forest, the openness of Big Meadow and the crashing waves around the island of Dursey, echoes of the past still resonate, and a 400 year old tragedy reveals itself.
Inspired by her love of Ireland, her home for over 30 years, the acclaimed Indian writer Cauvery Madhavan evokes the magical Beara peninsula in her newest novel, weaving the true story of the Long March of O’Sullivan Beare in 1602, when the English military forced the Irish from their lands, into a tale of longing, identity, and finding peace. Martin Nutty (Irish Stew podcast) joins the author in conversation.

Brian Maguire Portraits—The Failure of the State

Opening reception with the artist
Portraits—The Failure of the State presents painter Brian Maguire’s portraits from three bodies of work that investigate the catastrophic impact of systemic violence without justice in Missoula, Montana; Bentiu, South Sudan; and Ciudad Juárez, Mexico. Maguire is an artist who looks outward, beyond the studio, engaging with the world and working in close dialogue with the families and communities of those erased, displaced, and forgotten by the failure of state institutions to serve and protect. Portraiture is at the heart of his practice: each work is an act of turning towards a person, their family and community, spending time and bearing witness where justice is absent.

Phase Two: The New 51st Street
We proudly announce that we have raised $36 million from New York City, New York State, and the Irish government toward a $50 million Phase Two Campaign for the future, including the redevelopment of our original 51st Street home, adjacent to our new 11th Avenue building, completing the campus of the New Irish Arts Center.
Working with our Phase One architects, Davis Brody Bond/A Page Company, we have completed schematic design and are well on our way to realizing the vision we began together more than a decade ago. Phase Two will recapture the intimacy we all remember, with a new venue on the scale of our original home and with the flexibility and capability we have gained with 11th Avenue. More live music, literature events, and classes await, along with artist residencies, community events, and energizing spaces for our team to work.
Our $50 million campaign for the future goes beyond bricks and mortar—it will strengthen our institution for the long term by expanding our programming fund, endowment, and building maintenance reserves.
Please turn the page to learn about naming and recognition opportunities to commemorate your potential support, and consider joining our campaign as together we secure the future of this important cultural bridge between Ireland and America for generations to come.
Recognition and Naming
There are many wonderful recognition opportunities available to commemorate your support. Gifts may be pledged over multiple years. Please consider a donation at any level—we invite everyone to make history with us!

Our group packages include 20 or more premium seats to select shows and a pre-show reception in the Devlin Café, with an Irishinfluenced menu of hors d’oeuvres and wines and beers from local and Irish producers. The experience is turnkey and specially priced. Visit irishartscenter.org/event/grouppackages or email ciara@irishartscenter.org for more details.

Our Access program offers a limited supply of $25-and-under seats for every performance. These tickets are made available when shows go on sale, and once they’re gone—they’re gone. Make your purchase early!
We also offer $50 discounted memberships for seniors, veterans, students, and people with disabilities, as well as scholarships for students in need.

Our Commitment to Antiracism and Equity
Irish Arts Center stands with our BIPOC family, friends, and colleagues against racism, discrimination, and violence. We continue to work toward providing an environment in which the work of artists can help forge the common ground that brings us together, and where people of all backgrounds are welcome and equal. We seek to approach that mission with humility, and to listen and learn from those whose lived experience is different from our own.
About Irish Arts Center
Irish Arts Center, founded in 1972 and based in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, is a home for artists and audiences of all backgrounds who share a passion or appreciation for the evolving arts and culture of contemporary Ireland and Irish America. We present, develop, and celebrate work from established and emerging artists and cultural practitioners, providing audiences with emotionally and intellectually engaging experiences in an environment of Irish hospitality. Steeped in grassroots traditions, we also provide community education programs and access to the arts for people of all ages and ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. In 2021, through a historic partnership between the people of Ireland and New York, Irish Arts Center completed construction on a fully-funded $60 million state-of-the-art new facility to support this mission for the 21st century and has begun work on the project’s second phase, the redevelopment of IAC’s adjacent, original 51st Street building.
