Helping Children Deal With Loss This is a 4 session course for adults designed to teach them what to say & do and what not to say and do around children who have experienced emotional loss through death, divorce, separation etc. Sessions are approx. 2 hours long and offer a mix of teaching, group discussion and practical work. The programme is based on the book “When Children Grieve” By John W James and Russell Friedman, founders of the Grief Recovery Method* and each participant will receive their own copy. Between sessions participants will be asked to read sections of the book and complete an assignment taking about 45- 90 minutes depending on reading speed.

At the end of the 4 sessions participants will:  Have increased confidence and skill when talking to children/young people about grief and loss and/or who have had emotional loss.  Understand the 6 myths of grief and how they impede healing  Be able to recognise grief symptoms and behaviours  Be able to identify unresolved, incomplete or undelivered emotional communications  Understand the Recovery Components
