LETTER FROM THE IOPP BOARD CHAIR
2020’s Health Challenges Show Packaging’s Critical Importance 2020 will not be a year we soon forget! It has demonstrated the role packaging plays in protecting products and preserving food, among other things. I joined the Institute of Packaging Professionals in 2005 and never thought 15 years later I would be Board Chair of this great organization. I was elected to the board in 2019 and stepped into the role of Treasurer. It was gratifying to see the improvement in financials and the smooth transition of our alliance with PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, last year. This year, I have assumed the role of Chair and am excited we have a very strong, engaged Board of Directors with several new members. We will continue to drive the Institute forward with the help of a great staff and our Executive Director, Jane Chase. Did you happen to see the amazing article in Packaging World last September that highlighted PepsiCo’s use of our Certified Packaging Professional program? Both the learning portion and the certification process were done entirely online. It is just one of many examples of how IoPP continues to bring value to the packaging community. The CPP program is expanding globally, which is a great thing! We, of course, are focusing on membership and have recently revamped our Honors and Awards program, so look for a splash at PACK EXPO in November in Chicago. We also continue to highlight great packages with our AmeriStar Awards (have you entered your new packages yet?) IoPP has a lot to offer our members, and we hope it is apparent. With that said, I am pleased to share the results of the IoPP 2020 Salary Survey; it continues to show that packaging is not only a valuable business segment but a very rewarding career. Respectfully,
Rebecca Lane Oesterle, CPPL Chair, Institute of Packaging Professionals See who else is on the Board of Directors.
